Foliage as an advantage

Recommended Posts

In a world of danger, people would use every advantage available to them.

As an ex soldier one of the tools I would use would be the use of foliage as a means of survival!

This should be a basic feature in the SA. Allowing players to dress in local foliage would benefit players from lone wolves to bandits!

Not just people but buildings and vehicles also.

What do you guys think?

Edit; hunting would be greatly enhanced, allowing players to hunt more realistically as opposed to animals just wandering around. Would give living players something new to worry about!

Is it a bush? Or is someone rustling?

But foliage doesn't render at a distance, you would STILL stick out like a log in the desert from afar :)

I think it's a great idea! If they can incorporate it smoothly so there's no log in the desert business. Actually, I'd still like it either way.

Edit: Spelling mistakes and shit

Player 1: What's this bag filled with, bricks?

Player 2:... Why yes, yes it is you want to blend in around these medium value houses right?

Nice idea...every survivor in those post apocalyptic series always runs around dressed as a bush... Why would i want to dress in leaves unless anyway i want to KoS, DayZ is not a war...

The whole purpose behind camouflage is to remain hidden to others - if people can't see you, they generally can't shoot at you.

Edit: I no spell gud englush

But don't think that KoS will be a thing of the past in SA.

Maybe less rare, but it will still be there.

I know but you don't have to give them every bit of advantage, right?

A bit of foliage would be good but not many people run around in full ghillie suits 24/7, they're kind of inconvenient... honestly I think it's pretty weird seeing bandit squads all sporting ghillies (it just doesn't happen in real life) so I hope this isn't the case in standalone.

I hope they give us some more practical camouflage for the standalone... a less "all-encompassing" ghillie would be good, and I would like to see some hunting camouflage as well as old woodland military surplus stuff.

Most importantly they have to make sure the camo actually works at distance...

A ghillie like this would be nice

Or camouflage like this

And it must blend in with the terrain from afar

As for local foliage I see it most useful for hiding vehicles, supply caches, etc.

Here is a notion for you.

If they get the advantage of using camouflage, so do you - you are both hard to spot, they way it should already be.

Hopefully the camouflage will blend in from afar just as good as up close.

I think limited use of foliage as camo would be beneficial.

The reason why is hidden in Gews post...i even highlighted it for you. Unlike gamers who would even try to play war in Tetris "normal" people would not run around in a ghillie suit or covered in foliage 24/7. Most people would use clothing that has similar colors to the environment and i don't mean camosuits. Reasoning doesn't seem to work when weapons and games come together.

As long as it fits to the environment there should be nothing to complain about. Often enough you would just hide a vehicle behind a house or in a garage anyway. A wrong way to camouflage a vehicle is of course to cut down foliage next to the vehicle and cover it up with that without moving it away first.

If the player has strange settings that would give a hidden player away... Why not just change how the camo looks at a distance to keep everything always nice and camoflauged.

At the moment its easier to see a ghillie a km away in a field than a guy two feet behind you.

If the ghillie suits LOD changed to match that of the ground without grass at that distance with the added advantage of sinking into the ground slightly like they currently have.

It would also be nice to see a bonus when being in the shadows for AI detection aswell as detection at a distance from players aswell.

If a player has shadows disabled he shouldn't get magic stealth nub spotting abilities.

should be even more hard to see from distance

if you have camo like ghillie or leaf from tree and you don't move is impossible see this guy from 500m +

If they use the same trick i think they are using to increase performance like in ArmA 3 using camo wouldn't be such a problem anymore. Even with high settings objects seem to be blurred beyond 100-200m. The tricky part for the player is to match the camouflage with the environment since unlike RL the effect of a slight unmatch in color equals a sore thumb in game.
