Third person has no reason for existing, it does not provide any gameplay improvements while simultaneously providing exploits for players to use. It's understandable that people want an easy game, but starting pistols were removed as well.

In the end rocket can remove third person from the game entirely, just like he did with starter pistols.

* Imagine people actually playing the game legit and not exploiting the third person camera in player versus player situations!?

54 FP votes!!  Guys, let's get together and start a FP only server.  You guys will actually show up right?

I normally play on the DayZero Hardcore US2 server, so yeah... way ahead of you bro.

This is quite hilarious in all honesty. Being a doomsayer will not help your situation at all, it's the same thing the DayZ community said when rocket removed players from having starter pistols.

Going from the 1911 to the makarov to eventually removing it in general. In the end that change helped the community more even with all the doomsayers crying on the forums.

The same conclusion would happen if the third person camera would be removed.

How's the pop?  Hook up the IP. :)

On average they have around 20 players.

* During prime-time it can easily reach 30 - 40.

I really hope they remove third person view. Its much more fair, more balanced.

1pv'er vs 3pv'er usual conversation/argument

3pv'er - I get headaches when I play in 1pv because of the head bob.

1pv'er - U can disable it almost completely in the settings menu

3pv'er - We get a much more realistic field of view in 3rdpv

1pv'er - FOV is a really retarded argument, just doubletap minus key in the numpad, voila.

3pv'er - Watching the awesomeness of your character or the animations is a thing u can't do in 1stpv

1pv'er - With the new inventory system u will be able to see your character look in the inventory menu, and as for the animations just look at the other players, nothing important

(At this point the 1pv'er completely broke 3pver's fake reasons and the latter one must invent more fake reasons)

3pv'er - UH UH UH IRL SITUATIONAL AWARENESS IS...

1pv'er - Shh shh calm down. Situational awareness isn't that good to know exactly where is everything over a wall or whats happening 300mts away over the rock you are hiding in. Dude just spit it out, you only want third person because you fear a zombie popping in front of your face

Whatever the results in this poll may indicate the truth of the matter  is that most people use 3rd person, not necessarilly as an exploit but simply because they prefer.

This is why I have voted for 3rd person. As a compromise I think it would be better if third person view displayed non static objects in game by line of sight only, maybe the devs have already thought of that.

Dont get lost in that post, that is just his personal opinion. And;

I really dig the idea that if you prone, the camera goes into first person. It's logical and stops something that's been a bane to the ARMA series.

also crouching could zoom in / go over shoulder a bit.

Really nice update mate.

It's going to be hard to get it right, but I really want us to try. I find I am using third person alot in DayZ SA while running long distances, or to "check" my character (like to see where I am shot to check direction of firer), but then third person is so exploitable in prone.

So we are going to try both forcing first for prone, and the "sucking camera in close" and see which works best.

Agree too, crouching would really benefit from a more "over the shoulder", we'll try that and put some previs up for people to comment on.

It's a step in the right direction but it will not remove the exploitable advantage of 3rd person.

* From what he wrote it will counter all the players that are camping on top of the hospitals and the large buildings in cherno.

But we still have the same old problems of the 3rd person camera in effect.

* People can stand in trees being invisible to the enemy and using the 3rd person camera to scout, same concept can be applied to bushes.

* People can stand and check corners for enemies.

* People can stand and check over the concrete walls at "NWAF" for enemies entering or leaving the airfield.

Like I said it's a step in the right direction, but he is seriously just making this harder for his team.

* Just remove the 3rd person camera and the problem is solved...

He is clearly saying that the 3rd person view is generally used for quite cheating to look beind corners/walls and sorta. It is a progress and he also says that he plans to take some steps to prevent such issues as much as possible, which is a WIN for the community I think! =)

Of course I do not also expect this issue to be solved in 2 sec. The gaming communities/markets have been messing with this issue all along and even though there are some radical implementations out there the case is not completely solved for every game out there.

He wants the 3rd person (preference) players to buy the standalone, therefore he will try to pander to them but give a compromise to everyone else - so we all buy the game. This is understandable. If he removed 3rd person, i'm sure there would be quite a few angry kids. I really want it removed, but it's not the end of the world as long as there are 1st person servers with players. If the majority of people who prefer 1st person, play on 3rd person servers, it's our fault and we don't deserve 1st person servers.

The thing with the current DayZ is I can't find any private (less hackers) vanilla servers with many players in, let alone 1st person servers. DayZero has many good servers so I recommend that for anyone who wants to play Vanilla DayZ with 1st person servers and plenty of players (it's not vanilla but it doesn't have 500 helicopters or any of that crap, it's still similar to the vanilla dayz experience).

To be honest, I would not know since I don't buy perks for any server.

neither do I but I despise playing with people that do.  I'm going to swing through either way.

Personally, I'm not buying this as it is now, my only issue is tpv players being allowed on fpv servers and those people being allowed to server hop between them at will. If I can be sure that the sniper on the hill that shot me got his gear and to that spot on the same difficulty that I have been playing on, that's fine by me, but if there is a chance that he got his gear by using what I consider to be a cheat (tpv), that's not ok. It cheapens the entire experience for all fpv players even if they are the minority, the game would in essence encourage tpv over fpv as the mod does.

I love this poll. Certainly gives credence to the claim that most people deal with third person servers because that's the only thing they know.

On a side note, I wonder if those 24 people would be clamoring for 3rd person if we never had it...

The poll in no way represents the community at large.

Yep, 97 people out of approximately 2 million is quite the accurate cross section.

Credence indeed.

Surprisingly the rate was the same when there was 30 votes and still the same when there are 100 votes. I periodically checked the rates and it was about the same always.

No but what it does indicate, is that the active people on this forum, for the most part would prefer 1st person over third given the choice. And judging from the other thread and pretty much all threads of this nature, it seems to be a recurring theme in the forum, people on the forum prefer 1st over third.

Conclusion, change the forums to first person view only.

I enjoy seeing my character. A scruffy, aged man with tactical shades.

He draws me into thegame. I'll enjoy it even more with a wider choice of outfits.

Third person puts me in contact with my character's presence in the world, his exact disposition in cover.

I DISLIKE the fact that I can peer over walls. So I say, tighten, and lower the camera angle. it might help.

And, make it so you need to hold a key to be in Third (just like holding shift while driving to boost...awkward and tiring).

Just my 2 cents worth.

Well, who is given a f*ck about who represents what? We, the hardcore community, which is the main objective regarding to Dean, is saying that third person sucks. Simple as that. We want First Person only, or at least don't let it be an admin option, but a main server controlled thing. You know, 70.75% = first person servers and the rest third person. I don't give a sh*t, but I don't want the same disaster as in DayZ Mod.

We might be. No one can know if it does or not. And in literal, it is literally impossible to find out exactly how many of the peeps of a community would want something and others something else unless "everyone" in the community would vote in the polls and such regarding community activities.

I also do not think that the rates represent everyone that play dayz, however I dont think that the rates would still be so much different if "everyone" would vote for their thoughts/ideas.
