Some people will undoubtedly be upset with the direction of the standalone, I will not be among that group regardless of how TPV pans out.

You mean you won't immediately quit your job and start a life long quest to punch every Kiwi on the planet in the face just in case their last name is Hall? How dare you post on an internet forum.  :)

Lol, if you want a discussion about zombie difficulty I am fine with that. It really has very little to do with FPV and TPV though no matter how hard you try to tie it to that discussion. Yes zombies are slightly easier to avoid in third person, if you are an experienced player zombies are easy regardless of the view you use.

I am trying not to be mean with this next statement but your reason for wanting only FPV is one of the most flawed posts I have seen on this thread. It boils down to the fact that your friends do not like it so you are forced to play TPV servers, that is not a valid argument.

Actually, that is not my argument. That is you misinterpreting a statement as to why I do not play FPV only servers all the time and just ignore the TPV servers as my reason for wanting only FPV servers. I honestly do think FPV enhances what this game is supposed to be about and that is a semi-realistic portrayal of survival in a zombie apocalypse. The game is much more intense in FPV where I can't simply see zombies around corners and over walls and I think if more people pushed themselves and joined FPV only servers and tried it they might appreciate it. I also think the vast majority of humanity given an easy path and a hard path will take the easier one even when the harder one would be more rewarding.

This goes back to a whole, "journey  vrs destination" philosophy. I think people might find the everyday avoiding zombies part of the game a bit more rewarding in FPV than in TPV but even I get lazy and "like" TPV for how simple it makes the game when I am feeling lazy. It makes gearing up in zombie infested areas a lot easier and when I am, "I'll meet you guys as quickly as I can I have to get food and water and a gun before I make a run up there to join you." I can appreciate having that extra tool so I am not respawning again.

I will dictate how EVERYONE plays DayZ!

First person for ALL! Third for NONE!

I have spoken! Take offense to my words.

you'll fit right in here..

I'm not sure why night is an argument against linking a rest state to distance from an active campfire. The idea is to only enable third person when the player feels safe. It is entirely up to them where that threshold lies. Sure fires are more visible at night, as they should be. Now instead of trying to hide the smoke you need to hide the direct illumination, meaning you need to build your fire in a different place than you would during the day. Interesting choices that add to the complexity of the game.

That's a fair point.   It still seems like we're adding an unnecessary boundary for a rest state to occur.  Having to have all the given tools to start a fire just to view your character might turn out to be quite a obstacle to overcome.  Now that I think about it though, that may be a reward in of itself.

Heiduk lives.

 Wait... that's an option?

If DayZ has taught us anything I'm pretty sure it's that violence is always an option.

One thing i do not understand is with all the 1st person advocates why there aren't that many 1st person only servers.

I actually don't believe that the servers are 3rd enabled because that is what everyone wants. I believe most of the servers are 3rd enabled so that is where people play. There is a big difference.

There is obviously a large number of players that would actually prefer 1st only but for whatever reason (usually because 1st only are poorly populated) this has created a Catch 22 situation.  I want to play on 1st only but because no one else does i play on 3rd enabled servers.

In an ideal world there would be more than enough servers for everyone.   I sometimes wonder if 90% of DayZ players actually know what type of server they are on or they just jump on one with a good ping and decent player count.

Well I can only say why I as a 1st person cam advocate inevitably end up playing on 3rd person cam servers.

I play DayZ with many different people and groups.  Usually in a small group of 3 or 4, sometimes a much larger group (10+).

If 2 out of our group of 4 prefer 1st person view only servers (which is frequently the case) we always end up conceding defeat and playing on 3dp severs because the two that like 3rd person view simply say that they refuse to play on a 1st person cam only server (because they don't like it) and that on "their" 3dp server we can still use our preferred view.

It's hard argument to win, in fact we never win so for the sake of peace and quiet we inevitably have to concede and play the way they want to.

Private servers have compounded the issue because it's not like I can play on my own on a 3DP server and then hop over to join friends on their server when they want to play.  Well I can... but that means starting with a new character again so inevitably I then end up playing on the 3dp server that my friends have chosen even when on my own so that I can continue to progress my character or our camp etc on the same server as their preferred playstyle for when they return.

This is why I want the SA to become standardised.

3rdP players are concerned about being forced to play 1st only, yet this is exactly the situation 1st players are in as it stands.

Exactly, and removing the exploit form the 3rd person cam (or at least toning it down a bit) would go some way towards resolving the issue.

Then we could play together on the same server, me using my preferred view, them using their preferred view.

Lovely.

"I wouldn't miss playing with your kind anyway"

That statement alone is just a giant indicator that you are in fact that guy, the guy who takes a mother effing game so seriously that he thinks he is superior. You take pretension to a whole new level, you are the DayZ hipster who thinks everyone who does not agree is some moronic noob incapable of seeing your shining logic.

The way people argument here really makes me feel superior. Not to people in general but in relation to those fellas.

What am I supposed of thinking of folks clinging to something in many other games is not even remotely considered like girls to their teddy bears? It's pathetic.

Picking on smaller guys always is fun and boosting one's self esteem.

Being scared that it won't work is not a valid excuse for not at least letting them try.

...so things like a flawed 3rd person cam should also be looked at.  It'd be silly not to.

Just to repeat:  I want the 3rd person cam to stay, I also want it to be fixed.  As I said earlier in the thread, it may not be possible but not even looking at it would be stupid.

Not looking at it would be actually wise. No time wasted for something neither really needed and probably impossible to really fix. But they will have to do something and if it's only for political reasons because folks now are so used to TPV they really would have withdrawal syndrome if chopped.

So what hopefully will happen is that TPV will neutered in something that barely can be exploited...and most won't want to use anymore. Then I'd say "Oh! Your dog is dead? But you can keep it." ^^

I've always played in first person and with the default camera shake, even tho I understand people not liking the camera shake, first person in one of the most important things if you want to achieve immersion, which I believe is the point of this game.

One thing i do not understand is with all the 1st person advocates why there aren't that many 1st person only servers.

Can't speak for the others, but I stated my point of view regarding FPV a few months ago.

I only play in 1st person, it feels way more inmersive and challenging, I don't know why but 3rd has taken over this game, everyone plays in third person, Maybe if they get rid of the camera shake while running more people could stand it and more server would be 1st person only...

As for vehicles, I dont particularly mind, I drive with 1st person too, and I love it, I only use third person to check if I'm done hiding a vehicle or to search for heli crashes.

In Dayz Commander, out of 6000 servers only 70 have the 3rd person view disabled...that's roughly 1.1%....

Blah Blah Blah.

I love third person and first person camera angles equally.

When I'm playing 1st person. Immediately I double tap (-) (Subtract on the Keypad) for an improved field of vision.

Head Bob slider is not totally off but 1/4 way

Hopefully that eases some minds on FOV issues

You need new friends. Or at least more people to play with in 1st person view.

I dont see this as a big problem. I do this all the time. I play hero at one private hive and when i feel like PvP with my friends i jump in another. You die so often in DayZ that is not a big deal playing in two different hives.

This is why I want the SA to become standardised.

And disappoint your friends? Ruin the Standalone experience from your friends? They must be proud of you.

And here is something you can do for this problem: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/147104-players-who-prefer-1st-person-only/

I cant (and you cant) force your friends to play in 1st person only servers. But you can play in two different hives and/or find more friends to play with that prefer 1st person view.

Lovely.

I don't want to insult you, I have almost the same opinion. It is a bit naive of you saing that removing the exploit would be solving the issue. I think there is just no way of removing the exploit from third person without making third person totally useless and annoying.

The reason is that third person is almost made for exploit. You can look around a corner, that will never change. And this is where 90% of the exploits take place. It is not the camping buddy on the firestation it is the looking around a corner every 3 seconds. It is something that we do unconsciously, everytime we walk around a corner.

Also a very, very important thing is that in third person you have no visual recoil. This is in first person actually really realistic, aiming down the sights is not easy even if you just ran like 20 meters. You have to focus and if a player is far away the sights are not as useful as on close quarter combat. In third person there is no sight, you have just the little crosshair which tells you the exact point you shooting at. This would be prevented by just removing the crosshair, but I am not sure if Dean will do that.
