King of kong 1117 Posted August 20, 2013 I had an idea for the inventory system. Take S.T.A.L.K.E.R for example, you have unlimted slots, yet you can't carry everything you want, it's all governed by kilogram system. I think this should be implemented in Day Zed, each item has different weight, say you've got a a limit of 30 kg, canned food has something like 2.46 kg, bolt-action rifles have 9.54 kg, rifle clip-magazines are 1.42 kg, clothing in your backpack has 3.40 kg (Adjust depending on type of clothing/ammo/gun), teh more you carry, teh more noise you make and the slower you run, you also get tired faster. This is probably gonna get beaten to death soon, but please tell me what you think :d

Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted August 20, 2013 (edited) As a devoted S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fan... Yes please.Even though it can sometimes feel like it doesn't make any sense that you can carry 15 pistols around with no problems at all, but having 16 causes you to get instantly exhausted and unable to take another step. Edit; And as pointed out by other people in the thread, having a weight system without proper weights makes the whole concept pointless. King of kong 1117 Posted August 20, 2013 Yep. Sorry for my bad idea of what the stuff would weigh, I'm not really very smart when it comes to maths or weight measuring.
King of kong 1117 Posted August 20, 2013 I play s.t.a.l.k.e.r misery 2.0 mod for call of pripyat, so you kind of have to balance out what you carry to make room for food and medicine and batteries etc.
applejaxc 2500 Posted August 20, 2013 No. The promised inventory system has already been made and looks good. As fun as Stalker is, no.
King of kong 1117 Posted August 20, 2013 In MY opinion, the new inventory looks like crap, they could do with better item icons, so we can tell what stuff is, and it's looking too bland at the mo, that's just my opinion, I just think there should be a kg system to slow down guys with anti-material rfles
kichilron 8550 Posted August 20, 2013 Yep. Sorry for my bad idea of what the stuff would weigh, I'm not really very smart when it comes to maths or weight measuring. No worries. I was just wondering. There are actually a lot of things out there where it is solved like that. First thing that would come to my mind is Epoch - I think? And quite obviously militarybased mods, where you actually pass out when carrying too much and running too long and such. If you really like it go ahead and test those things out. But for the standalone that is no from me.
King of kong 1117 Posted August 20, 2013 I don't actually have ArmA 2, I just play DayZ at a friend's house sometimes, so I've never tryed epoch
-Gews- 7443 Posted August 20, 2013 Carrying a lot of weight (or going ultralight) should definitely affect your character. I don't see how anything negative could come of it.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted August 20, 2013 I have been wanting a weight based inventory system. It's logical and organic.

Lady Kyrah 1110 Posted August 20, 2013 Why stop at weight? How about weight and volume. Also the game shouldn't prevent you to put too much in your backpack (weight wise) but it should destroy the backpack.
JIJOK 49 Posted August 20, 2013 mod ACE 2 use that , but if backpack has 30kg max means that you can carry something like 8 M4 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M4_carbine
King of kong 1117 Posted August 20, 2013 It was just an example. I'm not really sure how stuff would weigh in-game, leave dat to teh devs
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted August 21, 2013 mod ACE 2 use that , but if backpack has 30kg max means that you can carry something like 8 M4 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M4_carbine  Well, you could put 8 m4's in a backpack in real life, and you could probably carry them all. But it would take up almost all the room in your bag, pus they'd be sticking out, and they'd be pretty heavy. I mean 8 x 7.5 lbs = 60 lbs, which is probably above the comfortable carrying capacity of any average human being. So yeah, you could carry 8 m4's. Would it be practical? Probably not.
