PLEASE ROCKET OIL RIGS!!!

Recommended Posts

I know previously suggested i just want to emphasize this idea, My cousin works on an oil rig and told me they are completely self sufficient, in an oil deposit oil along with natural gas is under pressure, when the oil is being extracted the natural gas that comes with It is burned to produce electricity to run the plant.

So in the game a running plant in the ocean isolated as a base (although previously suggested) is an astounding idea! I hope that this is implemented

I like it.  I didn't think they were self sufficient though, I thought they had helis to supply them.

Anyhoo it'd be nice to have one a way off the coast.

You need more than fuel to be self sufficient.

Like, food.

you can use helicopters and boats to scavenge the food and it's in the coast there should be enough fish to catch if they going to implant fishing.

An oil rig would be kind of a cool thing, but yeah they are far from 'self sufficient'.  Also, wouldn't it need a skilled crew to keep it from pretty much blowing up?  I'm sure there's all kinds of 'safety' devices installed, but recent history kinda disagrees with their reliability.  That aside, let's just say the crew cared enough/had time to shut everything down properly as their coworkers became infected and started to attack them and nothing broke or blew up.  Would make for a good 'endgame' thing.  Let's say the rig is about a mile or two out from shore near Berezino, and that its an experimental rig that actually refines oil and gas onsite before piping it to the docks at Berezino.  A group would take a boat out to the rig, clear it of zombies (make some mechanic where they never respawn but theres a LOT of them)  After clearing they can switch everything back on and it'll start pumping oil and gas back to shore, refilling the gas containers on the docks.  Things would shut down occasionally so players would have to go back out to do repairs occasionally.  The real control would be of the docks and the gas tanks however.  Let's say gas doesn't respawn in any other gas tanks, but can be refiled with a tanker truck (or more slowly with jerry cans).  A group would have to find and hold the tanker truck, the oil rig, and the storage tanks in order to control the flow of gas on the server (or alternately they could just load up a car with as many jerry cans as they can.  Group of Heroes or survivors might make deliveries to fuel tanks throughout the map and allow survivors to take as much gas as they need or trade for it, bandits would keep it for themselves,

Brilliant idea, you're quite the imaginative person aren't you?..

What's that, that thing at the end of your sentence?

It's not an ellipsis, it's not a full stop, it's two silly little dots after a question mark.

Grammar, why must you abuse it so?

I think if they wanna switch on the drills or pumps or whatever, then there's a chance it might explode but like in actual rigs you would get some warning.

And a smart group could probably switch it off in time.

My only knowledge is collective from TV and stuff.

I'm not sure that would happen so quickly large explosions need a lot of oxygen, and... If oil rigs are self sufficient wouldnt there still be people on there fishing for food and boiling sea water?

The workers are heavily supplied by the coast guard (at least in the US) meaning a but load of food and first aid supplies. If you cleared out all of the worker zombles it would be well rewarding!

Surprised it was not a part of dayZ from the start.  Rocket was 1 of the creators of  "usec_rig_a"

That's still not self sufficient.  Their getting supplies from the outside.  If they were producing their own food and had water desalination then they would be self sufficient.  If a rig were to be added to Chenarus I would make it so that food rarely spawns on it (if at all) that way you don't have people just camping out on it with an AS50 and killing any boats or swimmers coming close.  If you wanna hold it you gotta make supply runs.

I was thinking more like 10 of these things scattered around the east/south coast

Would still be the same problem of people camping on them if there's just an 'infinite' supply of food and drinks.

Not Infinite, there might be a small stockpile of food but it should run out quick for a group, then you'd have to run the risk of a shore landing whenever you need food or medical equipment or plan on expanding.
