MitchP 9 Posted July 27, 2013 I think 1 or 2 big rivers running from the far edge of the map all the way down to the sea would add a really cool element to the game, you could make it so you can take smaller boats like the pbx and speed boat up river.Your guys thoughts on this?
Chris529 380 Posted July 27, 2013 very good idea, would make boats way more useful
gregor (DayZ) 95 Posted July 27, 2013 Adding rivers in Arma is tricky, due engine limitations. But rivers and even small streams would be very appreciated. Maybe something like in fdf Podagorsk map . You can see there river, higher than sea level due damb and darker than sea water. Though may be problems also with AI.
GrumpyGat (DayZ) 497 Posted July 27, 2013 I'm sure rivers would end up being a prime feeding ground for bandits to shoot at boats in the bottlenecked areas.
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted July 27, 2013 Rivers/streams would be a welcome addition (to fish in as well as to use as a transport route), but as said above it's not something easy to do with Arma.very good idea, would make boats way more usefulNot when you can swim (or crawl) faster than the boat (I know from experience...slowest trip to Berezino ever...). Everything but the PBX seams to have a Mikita drill for a motor. Maybe its just because my uncles a boat builder and he does not fuck around when it comes to engines, but even little fishing boats/trawlers can haul ass when you throttle em out. enforcer1975 1111 Posted July 27, 2013 (edited) Technically the coast line would be a river IRL...i doubt they would place a river into an existing map because they would also have to change the terrain surrounding the river to make it look realistic. OFP already had a map where you had a kind of river running into the ocean, compared to Chernarus it looks like it has a lot more land mass. It looked kind of like this from the air. Firewarrior64 69 Posted July 27, 2013 Use the search function. this has been suggested many times before. A realistic river which flows from a mountain to the sea would not be possible because in the ArmA 2 Engine all water has to be at sea level. (the lakes are separate objects). Other than that, as said above, a lot of the surrounding terrain would have to be changed.
MitchP 9 Posted July 27, 2013 Ok, maybe not a river. What about a canal? It would have to follow the valleys obviously, so its at sea level.Something along these lines Wouldnt be as wide as this, I made it wide so its obvious where it is. Imagine the possibilities with boats!

PBX would be awesome though speeding up rivers doing

MitchP 9 Posted July 28, 2013 As I said, it would have to follow the valleys. Although even the valleys arnt flat are they ! What about a large lake then? But not a circle lake, a lake like thisNotice how I avoided hills this time? ;)
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted July 28, 2013 Id almost prefer the large lake/series of lakes idea. Would probably be easier to implement than changing the map enough to create a river. After all, there's a lot of unattended dams now. However, I highly doubt that we'd get a river or any new lakes this late in development of Chenarus (unless of course Chenarus+ goes further north or west, Guba after all looks like the outlet of a river) so we'd really have to wait for an all new map with purpose put rivers in them (perhaps that urban 'western' map Rocket wants to do eventually, with a large canal/river running through a major city to the coast and up to a feeder lake).
Serious Stan 202 Posted July 28, 2013 I suppose you mean in chernarus? and i have a simple answer for you. There is no river there.Chernarus is a real place, you could actually go there IRL.

Probably the reason why its a coastline instead of a river in game is because it's just a bit too hard to do realistic rivers with the Engine they have.
