Am I doing something wrong?

Recommended Posts

I spent over $40 just for my brother and I to play DayZ, seeing as how gay it is to have only max of 40-70 players on a "Private fake server", where is the real Day Z that should have thousands..

I want the real thing why am I only seeing fake..

If you're referring to fake servers as private hives there are plenty of public hives with atleast 30+ people on them. You may find that you come across players quite frequently in highly populated servers.

Are you being serious right now?

Yup he is, and it has never been displayed to have thousands either, so I have no idea were you got this from.

Blake, either you've misunderstood what the 'public hive' is or you're trolling.

The 'public hive' is a database which contains the data for all the 'alive' characters - location, weapons and tools, backpack and contents, food and drink, blood level. There are probably 250,000 characters recorded in it, although only a few thousand of those are active players now.

But that doesn't mean when you join a public-hive server that there are thousands of players who you can interact with. All it means is that whichever of the 300 public-hive servers you choose to play on, your location, gear and health will be loaded from the public-hive. This means you can always find a busy server, and start playing from where you left off. Well, almost - tents and vehicles are not 'transferred' from server to server.

The difference with a private-hive server is that each one has it's own database. So once you've chosen a private server to play on, you can't 'transfer' that character to another server. The benefit though, is that private servers can have whitelists of players and can run extra anti-hacking tools. They can also modify DayZ to make it easier, more difficult, or more interesting than the 'vanilla' DayZ that's on the public servers.

So why do servers only have a maximum of 60 player slots? Two reasons. Firstly, they don't have the processing power to handle more than 60 players. Secondly, the maps aren't big enough to cater for more than about 30-50 players. I know Chernarus feels huge when you first start playing, but actually after a few weeks you'll know it like the back of your hand. On a server with 35+ players, your tents and vehicles will always be found and raided within 48 hours, and the map will suddenly seem very small.

Anyway, regardless, one way of differentiating between public and private hives is to use 'DayZ Commander' to look for servers, because it contains a filter to 'hide unofficial servers', so it will only list public-hive servers. But my advice is to find a good private hive server and stick to it.

Assuming you are serious there has never been servers that could cater for 1000's.

I don't know where you got this info from but you have either been misinformed or you have misunderstood the difference between active players (across all servers) and individual numbers per server.

A server with a thousand people on it.

just think about it for ffs.

Cherno would be GTA 5 multiplayer.

You definitely got your information wrong.

If a thousand people buy a game it doesn't mean that all thousand are going to be on the same server at the same time.

Trying so hard not to be shocked/amused/sad. If you ever looked up the game at all I think you would never find anything that says thousands of players. If you watched streams/vidoes you should understand that those people all just played on 40-70 person servers.

Op needs to pay more attention to games before buying to get the facts right. You spent $40 on a good product but you also purchased a side order of let down.

Just to be clear, are you sure you bought DayZ and NOT Warzzzzzzz?

I'm presuming the $40.00 he mentioned might be that he brought Arma 2 and Arma 2 Operation arrowhead just to play Day Z and no intention of playing those 2 games, so in his eyes Day Z cost $40.00 to buy

Chernarus is only 225 km²...

1000 players would be 4.44 players per square kilometer...

4.44 players per square kilometer means the average distance between each player would be a mere 450 meters...

A certain someone fiddling while Chernarus burns

in DayZ, most high end PC's loss their nuts when server has more than 40 players on a server. So there is no doubt any machine in the whole world can run a "thousand" players server.

There might be thousand zombies though.. :|
