More Atmospheric Towns - Places with their own design and character

Recommended Posts

I really hope places like the bigger cities and destinations like Cherno, Elektro, Berezino etc.. are filled with "former life" and will be granted their very own character and destinctive design. i am really looking forward to see if there would be

  • red light districts (industrial areas might need the oldest of all businesses)
  • piers (maybe in more touristic areas)
  • football grounds (rundown in villages, mabe even a bit more modern in bigger cities)
  • fair grounds (the same as for piers)
  • graveyards (every place has a graveyard somewhere)
  • those pompous soviet plazas (monumentalism can have its place at least in Cherno)
  • atmospheric bars and fish markets in harbours etc... (this goes for every town with a harbour at least)
  • malls (only in or around Cherno)
  • casino, cinema, theatre, (show that Cherno or other cities deserve the term "city" or "town")
  • parks maybe?

EXAMPLES:

Elektro/Cherno easily could go as blue collar towns: dirty and somewhat inhospitable, but at least Cherno could maybe show some flair of internationality as the regional metropolis in its town-center (yet we have the hotel there). Dynamo Elektro, the local football club with its rundown football ground. dirty all over the place, heavy industry, bars and strip clubs down the harbour district. Now i realize cherno, has even more industry it seems, so maybe this would be even a possibility for that city. Maybe convert one city into a touristic "agglomeration" by adding nice piers or fairs.

I for one prefer quality over quantity. Expand the existing localities to more believable, more authentic ones instead of adding 7 new generic locations. I don't need a Skyrim approach where everywhere is something to find just for the sake of finding something.

Would be nice to get some infos. what do you think can we expect?

Definitely. I want to see back alleys as a means of travel as oppose to the open streets of the biggest city. Back alleys would be a quicker and quieter way to travel but you can be cutoff and cornered easily where if you travel the open streets you are less likely to get trapped but theres alot more infected to deal with.

Things like this need consideration

Quality over quantity, you say?

Imagine one glorious shining city on a hill example of a zombie apocolypse setting. Now imagine it being a murderfest because it's the only place with loot on the entire map.

Hello there

I would like a definite distinctly different feel to the towns, but I dont know if this will be achievable with timescales and budgets. Plus as theyre all in the same area they wont differ architecturally all that much I suppose.

that's clearly exaggerating :P. what i mean is the existing places to be filled with more quality content, more believe believability and authenticity. they are on a good way from what i've seen. you know that places where you really would stop for a moment to absorbe that atmosphere.

i wouldn't need 10 more villages just for the sake of scavenging and loot, maybe all looking kinda the same. or maybe again a new airfield: we have to few of them ;) :P

i would like to compare it to skyrim:

where you would find every x meters a tent/ a cave/ anything that provides you the next adventure, the next loot. at some point (at least i) can't see a cave anymore (although it is far far better and not comparable to oblivion). but when you have seen anything...you realize the world feels stale and soulless...well yeah maybe it is complaining on a high level..

Certainly gives people more inspiration to leave the coastline in my opinion. But then again, I think just adding more enterable buildings is sufficient for what Dayz is going for right now. While it might be nice to see a megacity electro/cherno, more subtle changes are more my style. Blood spatters on walls, notes left behind by former residents/ changing people. Small lore based stuff. Maybe even messages or computer files that talk about the events leading up to Dayz. I'm a little weary of another complete redesign simply because the standalone has already been delayed for so long already.

i think the focus should be and will be on details and an all-believable apocalyptic world. although Dean's negative statement about props was a big letdown for me..

The should model a town after Chernobyl in the COD 4 campaign....that screams apocalypse, since it was one...

I feel that the simplest way is to have a clearer lower, middle and upper class.

In nicer parts of the coast there should be big houses clearly a cut above the rest, small dock, big garage, pools.

No outhouse. Something unique to every house, one might have a gamesroom & indoor bar, the other might have a large study/ library another a rape dungeon.

I'd like camping shops, maybe they have tents and water bottles, maybe hunting knives. Maybe a gang-hideout with some used needles on the floor, sometimes chance of gun spawning. Sewage tunnel, I wanna eat shit

Gamescom showed a very well developed Stary Sobor. hopefully we can expect something like this from other locations as well...can't wait to see cherno in cherna+ again!

I like the crashed plane in Churno.

I hope we get a big slummy area that the military have clearly attempted to cordon off.

It should have barbed wire everywhere and dead scientists in biohazard suits, biohazard signs road spikes down and replace all the Hummers with this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iveco_LMV because the Czech Army actually uses it, and I like the look of it :D

Wrong Island/Country imo.

Sahrani had a lot of this and even more. It was half a tourist paradise ( it looked quite like the beaches in Dead Island ) with "wealthier" housings and the other half a communist country with it's typical buildings and infrastructure. You could really see they were two different worlds on one island.
