it would be great if we had slower players + zombies

Recommended Posts

A lot of people have been suggesting about slowing zombies down. I really like that zombies can run as fast (or faster) but every thing fells really "fake" with the running.

If devs slowed the zombies AND THE PLAYERS down, things would probably run much smoother in the game. I just think that the players and the zombies are too fast!

Its would also be better confronting other running players.

I donno, its just my opinion.

Maybe if you ask players nice enough, they'll slow down so you can aim.:D

the only reason zombies are fast is because (i believe) that is is just a re animated version of the in game ai, which runs as fast as your character. im not sure that they can slow them down in the dayz mod, but probably can in the standalone.

I agree on slow zombies, but slowing players down? I really hate every game I play where the walking speed feels just painfully slow. The worst is getting overencumbered in Skyrim and moving around like a snail (although it makes sense, also in DayZ SA).

What I would love in the SA: slow zombies, that are super responsive to (loud) noises, although really dumb (bump into a wall and don't know what to do, lose LOS and wander on only for 5 seconds, go in a straight line after the player), but huge in numbers (at least 1000 per server, better around 10000 or what ever number feels "real"), really hard to kill (only headshots), and with a high chance of giving infection (while being melee weaklings).

I think this was suggested many times but still, I like my zombies that way. Play Project Zomboid if you want to experience such enemies - the zombies are great in that game and just like I want/described them.

Sounds to me like it will resemble the movement in Warzzzz or whatever crap it is called these days. Not a fan of slowing the players down at all.

I do like the choice of slower shufflers, Both fast and slow Zeds would add to the game. Slowing the player down would be bloody silly, Have you run up north? takes a while at current game speed.

I did once think this way also, but once I had control of the gameplay and the way it works, I was O.K. with it

if im right speed can be adjusted, at least for zombies, they were made abit faster in a recent patch i believe.

But the reason they are fast is to compensate for bad path-finding, if they were normal speed they would never reach the player as they tend to..."take the long route" most times

as for player speed, I definitely dont think it should be slowed down, it looks like a natural speed, and in the real world, if you were being chased by zombies and bad guys with guns, you would run pretty fast. also, it takes long enough to run to places as it is lol

Zeds can be slowed down via mods like dayz. As an example of this;

Players run over 18 km/h without sprinting, and they keep that speed up. Compare that to the average jogger, who does maybe about 10 km/h.

Yeah, players are too fast.

Actually you are already running a bit faster( 20km/h ) than a person with equipment should be able to. Marathon runners have an average speed of 15-20 km/h and they don't carry anything around but themselves. Usain bolt runs almost 45km/ for 100m, i don't think he can hold it much longer since sprinters are trained for short distances with a high power output. The average what a normal DayZ character should be moving around 3-8km/h without taking the terrain and encumbrance into account.

A person on drugs ( let's assume the virus has the same effect on a human liek drugs do ) would not bother how exhausted he is until he drops ( either dead or just unconsious ). So imagine a player with a full Czech backpack, an assault rifle and a pistol with a couple of mags already exhausted from carrying that stuff around, maybe even tired and thursty tries to run away from a "wild beast" ( meaning the zombie ) that was lurking near a house for hours and didn't really spend that much energy in the meantime.

That's the magic of beans my dear boy!

I sometimes use the "power of propulsion" the beans give me, i can even leap a couple of meters if i have some matches. I just don't do it too often since i burn my ass every time.

it would take so long to walk to another town if the players were any slower. also, a normal person can't run for 15km without stopping, but you can do that in arma aswell. but how boring would it be if you had to stop running every 10 minutes because your character is tired?

Immersion...realism...call it what you want. With the ballistics, weather effects, sickness, wounds, hunger and thirst it's should be a given that they add a stamina system. And if you don't run around all the time and do it like you would IRL you will only need to take breaks every hour for maybe five minutes instead of breaking down from sprinting for five minutes and having to rest for an hour.

I agree they are a little too fast , but I guess this will be something ( amongst other things ) that is compromised for the sake of game play .

You don't do a power sprint with 30kg of equipment in ACE in the first place. On every OP the limit was below 30kg, most players didn't even have 20kg on them and we were driving all the time. I buddy forgot that he had 60kg of .50 ammo on him and kept sprinting 10m wise between the gun and our vehicle when we were testing. He didn't stand up for a while.

To most players collapsing after sprinting 1km with all the weapons and ammo isn't "natural" because they are used to the action shooters where it doesn't matter.

Yeah. Because in a 260 square km map stopping every X ammount of time slots to catch your breath would be so much fun. Realism gets in the way of fun.

Sometimes you have to take the game a bit more serious even if your avatar doesn't need to rest you can use the break to "rest" yourself. I know it's difficult if one is used to playing Battlefield or CoD where stamina doesn't matter and you can jump 3m high and as far as 10m in full sprint and do the dolphin dive or bunyn hop every second to evade bullets.

And there is no need to rush, you will only be seen quicker. And running towards your goal doesn't guarantee that you will find loot.

If I truly wanted serious, I wouldn't play a video game on a computer over the internet would I? That by definition is far from seriousness. As for COD, Stamina does matter because your guy stops running after 15 seconds from what I can only perceive as exhaustion. But why are you trying to compare COD to DayZ in any way shape or form? As far as I'm concerned bunny hopping to evade bad aimers, dolphin diving vast distances and sprint jumping like an Olympian is fun, not realistic. Realism can suck my testicles for all I care, as I previously said. Realism gets in the way of fun. End of.

No,it would make the game way too easy, too much like the walking dead. (The walking dead is good but the zombies are not original or smart) Fast infected who die like regular human's are better, just increase their resistance to firearm damage. If they were slow undead it would just ruin the immersion, just feel like Infestation: survivor stories. Rocket even said himself that they are not undead.

They can slow down the walking/running speed by modifying a variable coefficient (the only reason I know that is because I was learned how to change my setrecoil Coefficient to fix ARmA 3's obnoxious recoil to ArmA 2 levels). The problem is slowing down the animation, which has its length set by frames/actions; they would have to create a new animation with more/less frames to fit. Otherwise it'd lag like my laptop
