[SA suggestion] Hiding places

Hiding places?

  1. 1. Do you like the idea of interacting with furniture and using them as hiding places?

Recommended Posts

I've mentioned this lightly yesterday, but I'm honestly curious as to the community's opinion on it.

What do you guys think about hiding places, furniture and entities that can be used to hide the player from zombies and possibly even other players. Seeing as zombies can now run indoors, I think it'd be a good idea to implement a way to safely lose them without having to zig zag through multiple buildings in town, instead, just hide in a closet until they shamble away, or crawl under a bed.

Personally, I think that considering how things have changed so drastically with the zombies now being somewhat more of a threat - regardless of how much damage they initially dish out, this would be a welcomed addition. I'd love to actually lose the zombies through means that isn't just RUN-RUN-RUN-RUN.

But yeah, the point of this thread is just to suggest the idea and get some feedback. What do you think?

This would be cool. If the zombies could smell you, it would get a little more complicated.

I found this interesting.Hiding in the closet/basement would solve the running and make the buildings much more interactive . Is there any info about how do the infecteds track you ?

+1.

Crawling under a bed seems like a pretty likely option for me in a zombie apocalypse.

And since so far in DayZ, zombies can only see and/or hear you, so scent doesn't even rule it out.

They should also be allowed to attack the player if they have a line-of-sight to him/her while they go into hiding.

How about hiding in dumpsters? Think that hiding should force you into first person view as well. Duck under the bed, forced to watch from under the bed as a pair of legs appear and start looking around for you before shambling off. Possibly able to shoot from your hiding spot as well, depending on the hiding spot (IE cant shoot while in a closet with a closed door, but you could shoot while under the bed, aim is hindered ((can only shoot what you see after all, so feet)) and reload is slower due to cramped conditions) but of course your hiding spot would be compromised to a point (firing a lee under the bed will attract more zombies, but unless they were in the room they won't find you? Same thing with other hiding spots)

I do like the idea of zombies being able to attack or even drag a player out of their hiding spot if they hid themselves while still in the zombie's line of sight, but I'm pretty sure the zombies would then always see you with how aggro-happy they are, and then hiding would become a gamble more than anything.

I do however very much like the idea of hiding in dumpsters, closets and beds aren't the only thing out there that one can use to hide themselves. Hell, it can even borrow some aspects from Assassin's Creed and have the player jump into a bail of hay in one of the barns to hide themselves.

As for players looking for players, I'm sure that would this be implemented that there'll be some form of counter to this such as pulling players out of their hiding spot or out right shooting into it.

How about cow carcasses?

Perhaps more illumination...in "Empire Strikes Back" Luke Skywalker was "inserted" into a smelly tauntaun by Han Solo to save his life (more for warmth than for hiding) - so in DayZ perhaps if you're in open country, and a horde is coming your way (or PVP survivors) you can kill and gut a cow and hide within its gross, disgusting, blood and gut swollen interior.

Movable Furniture:

What about being able to MOVE some of the furniture inside those buildings, at least within the same room. Perhaps you can push a bed or wardrobe up against an open doorway (eventually enough zombies could get through, but you could delay their chasing you IF there were a 2nd exit.

All Car Trunks Enterable:

All car trunks should allow for people to hide inside. There's a red volkswagon YouTube video going around where a player gets into the trunk and basically Direct Chats the unknowing drivers into rages.

How about cow carcasses?

About moving the furniture/etc, does anyone know if the game engine allows that ?

Regarding the cow carcasses, I don't think that's viable. It's probaly wearing lenghty and unworthy > for hiding,

Bear Grylls has done that , check it out, ahaaha :

(shorter and amusing version)

Moving furniture around would definitely help the whole barricading a house concept but like icrush said, I doubt the engine will allow it. As for hiding in furniture, that shouldn't be too complicated to code; if they wanted an easy way to do it, it would basically consist of making stationary vehicles with props instead of actual vehicles as their model. The player can climb into it, just like they would in a car.

If the zombies can smell you in SA, you should be able to find vinegar or something potent like drain cleaner to pour on the ground so when you hide they can't smell you. Last resort is piss on the floor haha

I'd like to be able to hide in certain areas of rooms such as bathrooms like standing on top of the bathtub with the shower curtain closed ;)

How about even hiding in places like dumpsters and the possibility of finding some loot?

I'm going to try hiding inside a cow carcass tomorrow. There's a dairy farm nearby and I can make one of those nail/barbedwire bats in a jiffy! Photos to follow!

hiding seems to be fun, good idea.
i think in terms of creating horror amnesia is a reference game. if dayz could draw inspiration from it, that would be neat and could only help.

I'm not sure if my equipment will be able to penetrate those doors.

But if they can I'll blow my load all over them.
