Remove that obsolete blood system.

Recommended Posts

The blood system is really flawed to be honest, sure it reminded us of the DayZ mod but we are revamping the game to the standalone, during this we have all been making suggestions to add to realism, so we should take the realism to a new level by adding a different damage/heal system called the silhouette system. Basically how it works is by showing three different silhouettes like the one shown here*, the three silhouettes show three different meters; one being the veins and skin and muscles in one silhouette, bones in the next silhouette and organs in the final one. Because of this Collateral damage can occur adding to the realism.

If an organ/bone/vein is damaged the colour of the organ changes from light green (Healthy), green (Real minor hits), orange (Wounded), Magenta (Badly hurt) to a dark red (Severe damage). On severe damage it can limit what the player does. Bones can only go from green to Magenta and organs (Excluding the brain if shot in head causing instant death) and Veins (The more damaged the vein is the more blood that is lost) can go to dark red.

33mlyqg.jpg

The way they work is depending on the damage you take. here are some following examples how how the damage system works.

- Getting shot in the left leg by a M4. On bones silhouette the left bone is broken and badly hurt (Magenta), in the vein section the femoral artery is Badly hurt (Magenta) causing steady bleeding. In this situation the player can heal but they are dying at a steady pace.

- Getting shot in the head by a SVD. Skull broken badly damaged (Magenta). Veins are severely damaged (Dark red) and the brain is severely damaged (Dark red). I really don't think anyone can survive being shot in the head so instant death.

- Falling and breaking both legs. Both legs are broken and badly hurt (Magenta) and blood is slowly escaping as veins are wounded (Damaged). In this situation the player can heal.

- Getting shot in chest from a double-barrel breaking ribs and penetrating lungs. Broken ribs that are partly broken (orange) and the ribs have taken severe damage (dark red) and the veins have taken severe damage (dark red). Basically the player is drowning in their own blood. Dead.

- Zombie hits player. Vein hit causing trauma. No bleeding so green. Overall you will live unless hit again which has low risk of getting cut.

- Knocked on floor while 6 zombies attack player. Veins are badly hurt and bleeding is occurring (Magenta). Unless zombies are killed player will die.

- Explosion killing player. Veins are severely damaged (Dark red), All bones are broken and badly hurt (Magenta) and all organs are severely damaged (Dark red). Player is dead.

So I tried to sum this up the best I could, If anybody has anything to add than by all means comment. This is a raw idea and I couldn't think any more when it comes to refining it.

EDIT 1: Posted what zombies could do to the player via terms of damage

Hopefully the standalone expands on this at some point but I wouldn't hold my breath. ArmA 3, with its shiny new engine, still doesn't even model body armour at all and uses the same hitpoint damage system was used in Operation Flashpoint back in 2001...

Hell I'd trade all the revamped zombie AI for improved terminal ballistics.

<gooogle translation>

hopefully the standalone make this better sometime but I don't think likely. ArmA 3 still uses simple hitpoints. Important, even to point I like standalone developer to focus on this instead of the zombie.

It's actually quite an easy thing to code. I've seen mods for it on various games outside of Arma where injuries and their downsides are specified, such as; falling off dangerous heights will either damage or out right cripple your legs, your health drops, bleeding may or may not occur - because bruises and broken bones don't always bleed - and obviously your speed is severely reduced depending on the extent of the injury.

Though Arma 3 is already being polished for release in the near future, I'd love to see some form of this instead of the usual "I've been shot in the hand, now I'm bleeding out of my spleen."

I think this system would do well in dayz. I would love to see a more detailed readout of damage. Maybe this damage system could be implemented with the new inventory system in the standalone. We have all seen how there is a model of your character in the centre of the new inventory system, maybe there could be a button to change the view to this new damage system, that way we could drag and drop medical items to heal parts of the body.

This is a good idea for ballistics, but there's so much more to explore about the blood/health (Check DayZ Russia Community Suggestions). You should propose also the healing/cure side of these ideas, the only survival-like game system i know that could fit in there would be MGS3. I just don't know.

from what I've seen Rocket hint about the blood/health system, my guess would be a sort of system where a blood bag is no longer single use, perhaps the bag is empty, needs to be cleaned to minimize infection risk, needs fresh living blood per each use, etc.

He mentioned forced blood transfusions in a recent tweet. this leads me to believe it will be possible to take blood from someone who is knocked out, which would be a great addition. if player blood is needed, i am very interested to see how the blood donor is affected from the transfusion, and how players might trick each other into accepting infected blood, and if there would be any delay to that sort of realization.

Sounds like the Chernarus blood bank pre-apocalypse.

I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised with the SA, It wont be exactly what you want but the damage system etc should be somewhat more intricate as oppose to whats currently installed

Not a bad idea.... However I can not support it due to the use of 'magenta' as one of the colors.... can you please return your Mancard for disposal....

1. I'm not a man yet. I'm 15. Manhood is past 18.
2. Magenta is an awesome colour. It's a descendant of red.
3. You're so funny. lol total lols. clap clap. Edited by LancerG2

It's good, I wouldn't say perfect, but... Maybe a simple overall condition meter showing how close your worst injury is to causing death for HUD?

I still want blood because it fits well, the challenge is finding a place for all this stuff? In the inventory?

W8 I got it... when in the inventory you can press a key to switch the player model to the sorta healing hub, you can click & drag medical equipment to body parts to use it on damaged body parts.

Another thing would be nice, right now arrows are technically bullets. It would be cool if arrows did less instant damage but instead caused people to quickly bleed out. Arrows don't have either the energy or the immediate shocking power of rifle bullets, but they still can make unavoidably fatal wounds.

Not only that but If you get stuck with an arrow you have the option to "Pull out". Doing so will cause blood to gush out plus extra damage. Another option is "Stay in" so unless you don't want to bleed like a pig but move in pain this option is good. Finally maybe add the proper way to remove an arrow which is pushing though. It could give shock and a little damage. By selecting "deeper" youhave a 1 in 3 chance of removing the arrow with a single blow. If failed then another attempt must be made to sucessful remove the arrow from you.

Anybody got the Puns? B)

I think you shouldn't be able to heal untill you remove the arrow.
