"Loot" your own home for an initial outfit and supplies for the zombie apocalypse

Recommended Posts

Since I began playing DayZ, I wondered whether I could get properly equipped for an initial outing from my own home in a zombie apocalypse. I have the day off from work today and I decided to actually scavenge my own home to see if I could put a decent load out together. Plus I thought this might be a fun thread to make on this forum. This has probably been done before but I am just having fun.

Feel free to participate and post pictures of your "starting gear" you looted from your home. Do not cheat and go buy things to make a good load out. Only use things already in your own home. (I doubt anyone actually would for only this purpose but yea just to be clear)

I'll start:

Here is some basic gear I thought would be useful. I figured less is more since I may be travelling on foot quite a lot so I packed very light.

photo1.jpg

- Motorcycle helmet. For obvious reasons although it may get hot at times.

- Shovel. Primary zombie killer. Go for the neck/head. No gun spawns in my home unfortunately. :(

- Deodorant. For anti chaffing since I wouldn't be showering or changing clothes often.

- Baseball hat. Just in case, and its light weight.

- Trail mix. Ready to eat.

- 1/2 Gallon water jug.

- Flat-head screw driver. Tool/alternative weapon.

- Phillips screw driver. Tool/alternative weapon.

- 1/4" Socket wrench set.

- Hammer. Tool/alternative weapon.

- Crow bar. Tool/alternative weapon.

- Hatchet. Tool/alternative weapon.

- Swiss army knife. (Scissors, 2" blade, nail file)

- Adjustable pliers.

- Can opener.

- Sunglasses.

- Cigarette lighter. Fuck it, I might start smoking again in the zombie apocalypse but this would primarily be used as a fire starter.

- Eye drops. I can't compromise my vision.

Clothes I would wear and my backpack.

photo.jpg

- Backpack. To carry the above items.

- Drawstring bag. Lightweight bag in case I need more room. Possibly designated for medical supplies.

- Mechanix gloves. I wear these a lot when I work on my car simply for when I bust my knuckles on something. Not necessarily for reduction of pain, but so I don't draw blood somehow.

- Running shoes. I didn't have hiking boots so running shoes will have to do. Again I am thinking about weight and comfort. I will do a lot of running.

- Blue jeans. I feel these are the best bet for leg protection against bites (aside from leather, kevlar, etc. which I don't have).

- Long-sleeve button-down shirt. I am thinking in layers.

- Canvas work jacket. For bite protection. Collar popped for a little extra neck coverage.

A few extra things that aren't in the pictures:

- 2 Pair of shin-high socks.

- 2 Boxer briefs.

- 2 Under shirts.

- Basketball shorts. In case I actually get to relax somewhere.

- Antibacterial cream.

- Toilet paper.

- Anti-inflammatory pills.

And everything when it's put together:

Depending on the condition of the streets, I may or may not take my car since I have a v8 mustang with exhaust. It may be counter productive due to the loud exhaust but I just finished a big tune-up on it so it may be useful to have a fast car.

Sears Robogrip pliers in case you meet Bob Vila, you can ask him to autograph them.

Visine, because you don't want to let the Zombies know you're stoned.

No gun spawn eh? Do you live in Kemenka or something?

I'd take my CADPAT camo gear, machete, dagger, hatchet, compound bow & quiver (with hunting tips), water purifyer pump, canteen, beef jerky, trail mix, dehydrated fruit, first aid kit, disinfectant, spare undies and socks, wind-up radio, thermal blanket, 2 rolls of TP, soap, cold weather sleeping bag, solid pair of broken in combat boots, 50ft (at least) of climbing rope, small mirror, flares, glow sticks, gold and silver coins for trading, camping matches, compass, rain poncho w/headgear and a 60 liter backpack to store it all.

I'm too lazy to gather everything and take pictures but I'll list everything.

weapons - my knife, throwing knives (no good at throwing them but they are great shivs), crowbar, baseball bat and a hatchet. Le'ts not forget fists + feet.

Equipment - small 20L multi cam backpack, compass, 'pocket' street directory, first aid kit + first aid handbook(also pack painkillers, vitamin C, paracetamol), matches, lighter, small magnifying glass, wind up LED flashlight, backup led torch + pocket radio + x2 walkie talkies that all use AAAs, pair of NVGs (nothing amazing but they do their job, wish I had infrared torch would be excellent), duct tape, rope, toilet paper, multitool (pliers, scredrivers, scissors the lot), notebook and pens. I'm sure all of that would easily fit into the bag but I would probably have stuff hanging off the bag anyway to save space. I also have 2 blanks that I could hammer as a distraction or emergency signal.

As for any tools I might want to grab last minute, my dad used to work as a mechanic, and after that used to work on autoclaves + similar equipment so my garage is packed with useful tools

Clothes - black tight fit hoodie, black balaclava, warm grey skivvy, pair of sturdy bmx gloves, digital bdu pants, pair of joggers (no boots *sadface*, at least I can run though), extra socks + boxers. I would probably pack a poncho if I still have any, the ones you can pack into a tiny bag. I would also pack a shopping bag that can be folded up into a tiny pouch in case I suddenly need a lot more storage.

consumables aka food/water etc - probably just grab a couple empty 1.5L coke bottles to fill with water. I would take saltines and corn cakes since they taste like popcorn and I'm not leaving without them. I have a stainless flask I would probably fill with vodka. Not much to leave with but there are plenty of stores well within walking distance ranging from take away fish n chips to big grocery stores.

I think that's about it, everything I would be looking for to take with me. I guess would probably do best laying low in the day and going out at night.
