bfisher 561 Posted June 18, 2013 Having played for months, I know the way you are supposed to lose zombie agro is to run through trees or around corners to break the zombies LOS. At that point they go from 28 Days Later "apeshit" mode to Night of the Living Dead "duh" mode. And of course there is also hiding in a bush or running through a building and out the other side so they slow down. But my question is how does one lose zombie agro in the standalone? Better pathfinding, not losing speed in buildings and being able to open doors sounds like they can pretty much chase you until you pass out from thirst or hunger? So is the expectation that you can eventually outrun a zombie because they are "fucked up", they can eventually outrun you because they have "retard strength", we all run at the same exact speed or it varies? spinager 152 Posted June 18, 2013 idk, wait until the standalone. Duh.
victusmortuus 1074 Posted June 18, 2013 Perhaps forcing the player to shoot the zombies.
Aporis 422 Posted June 18, 2013 Game is forcing you to sneak now, prone when crossing roads etc.And yes, you have to kill the zombies. on the Mod, you can try to lose them inside buildings.
thehero 119 Posted June 18, 2013 I'm sure they will perfect the system as it goes through updates so I'm expecting lots of super zombie deaths and super easy zombie patches till they hit the sweet spot. If I remember correctly I thought dean mentioned in a video that zeds will go from "frenzy" mode to "alert" mode when breaking LOS but I'm not sure I'll try to find the video when I get the chance.
ergo46 5 Posted June 18, 2013 In the Mod zombies work on a Path System that follow your path. In standalone the zombies with use Line of Sight.
Sutinen 635 Posted June 18, 2013 (edited) If the sneaking wasn't broken, it would actually be a good feature. But right now, everything from sight radius to hearing is fucked over, so you can't really sneak. Seriously, I aggro zombies 50 meters away when the hearing meter only shows 2 of them shits (I don't know what to call them)And what did R4Z0R say when he heard all the feedback. "It's fine I can sneak behind zombies" that's because you were on grass idiot.I'm sure they will perfect the system as it goes through updates so I'm expecting lots of super zombie deaths and super easy zombie patches till they hit the sweet spot. If I remember correctly I thought dean mentioned in a video that zeds will go from "frenzy" mode to "alert" mode when breaking LOS but I'm not sure I'll try to find the video when I get the chance.I think the alert mode means when it hears something, it will see further and go look for the sound. If it sees you, it goes frenzy and starts chasing you. Edited June 18, 2013 by Sutinen
Siberian (DayZ) 527 Posted June 18, 2013 i asked this same question months ago..im still trying to wrap my mind around how your supposed to find loot/weapons if the Zombies can literaly not be lost anymore, if killing them is required and you dont have a weapon, are you simply gunna have to just die and reset ???im hopefully the SA isnt simply a game of either find weapon first or find zombie first and die. harley001 315 Posted August 26, 2013 (edited) I don't like HAVING to kill the zombies. I hate how they run so fast that they don't even finish their run animation. Even in 28 days/weeks later they could outrun the zombies or keep at pace with them. If I am unarmed and a zombie sights me in a open field then I have this @sshole on me forever. I try hopping fences and shizz, but they just run though the fence. Problem is these are not zombies/infected. They are freaking super human cannibals. And none of that "dey infected. dey just people with deseise" If they normal people who have just gone insane from catching the virus. Why do they run faster then us and hit like Mike Tyson? mercules 1290 Posted August 26, 2013 If they normal people who have just gone insane from catching the virus. Why do they run faster then us and hit like Mike Tyson? The virus takes them into a highly agitated state much like Rabies, Ebola, and several others infections. They basically kick in a fight or flight reaction when they frenzy on you and start pumping adrenaline. Adrenaline can make you run longer and hit harder for a while. JIJOK 49 Posted August 26, 2013 so you are asking "how to do something" for a game that isn't ready yet , what will be the fun then when game is ready ?
DemonGroover 8836 Posted August 26, 2013 (edited) Rocket may be redeveloping the zombie AI so it all may change but the current system still uses LOS methinks. It is possible to lose zombie aggro in the SA, but it is a lot harder. I hope that stealth or killing zombies is the only way to go in SA. Running through towns because you know going through buildings or behind trees would lose the aggro is kinda BS. I agree to a certain extent particularly with the mod, but it depends on the building / density of cover and far behind you they are in a more 'realistic' situation I think. If I followed someone into a multi roomed/doored building I'm not going to know exactly which room they are in or which door they went through, just as someone could lose me in dense bush.. unless they ran about like a mad elephant. Bludy 324 Posted August 27, 2013 in 28 days later they HAVE some issues in loosing aggro...you'll just have to run trying to hide and maybe the help of another player..that's bring us to: hoping that SA will be so difficult to not leave room for kos and douching (personally i don't think so) but maybe remembering how bad was being unarmed and chased will make people fire the zombies and not the player

I will agree that losing zeds can be fairly easy, perhaps too easy, however when running Elektro and I take a right around a building, a left through a break in a wall, then a dash through a building, I should be able to shake an infected. Hell, it would work on most people if they lost LOS and guessed wrong...just sayin

Mos1ey 6301 Posted August 27, 2013 (edited) I think breaking line of sight will still work fine, whether you can manage that without pulling more aggro is another story though, lol. They seem to be a tiny bit slower to make up for the better pathfinding (not zigzagging). Stealth and not being detected in the first place as well as shooting and actually being killed by zombies occasionally will probably play a bigger part in the standalone. 5P4RK4 (DayZ) 50 Posted August 27, 2013 I remember when interiors were the ONLY way to lose aggro, and why you started with a makarov. Don't complain. If all else fails run down a hill.

mercules 1290 Posted August 28, 2013 If the zombies on constant adrenaline they would fall over. Your body can't handle that. Also, wouldn't we have adrenaline? I am sure a couple crazy infected chasing you would get your adrenaline going. 1. They are highly agitated which brings them closer to the point where they will kick in adrenaline2. While not mindless they tend to ignore stimuli such as pain and such which means that while that adrenaline is taking it's toll and they are torquing their muscles so much they might even pop joints out of socket and such, they don't care while we would. 3. Yeah, our adrenaline is going to be going which would allow us to ignore certain levels of pain and injury, but they seem to ignore anything that isn't fatal or crippling which means they can make better use of their adrenaline. They are not going to notice shin splints, a charlie horse, or care that they just broke their knuckles from hitting someone so hard.
Jamz 253 Posted August 28, 2013 Hopefully in the SA, the new melee system will mean that you and a couple of friends will be able to dispatch zombies inside by beating them with snooker cue's to a Queen song.
