DayZ Standalone Alpha release?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

the first thing I want to say is that I'm NOT asking when it's going to be released. I want them to take their time and don't rush it.

My question is, how many alpha invites will be there? I first thought (and heard of) a public release where everyone can play it. Then I heard that there would be only 50,000 invites. And yesterday I heard that there would be only 150 invites, meaning that I would have no chance at all to play it :/

So what is true? Unlimited keys, 50,000, 150 or something else?

Thanks for your responses,

the guy with the shitty name

I do believe one-hundred and fifty [approximately] is the accurate number, however I am not certain at this point in time.

The Open Alpha will be for the streamers, Youtubers, etc, who can upload footage and such.

Someone correct and/or expand upon what I have said here, please.

Refer to DRM's post.

DayZ, the standalone zombie survival game spawned from the popular Arma 2 mod, will enter official review in June, with plans for a widespread alpha sometime after then, creator Dean Hall tells Joystiq.

"We're going to review the situation in June," Hall says. "So there'll be no release between now and June. And we're quite hopeful that we'll go then. I know that people get really frustrated because they want to play, but I just think this is the best option."

DayZ is basically ready for an alpha run, but Hall and his team are waiting to perfect the client-server architecture. Hall currently has 25 people in a small pre-alpha, and he hopes to get a few hundred playing DayZ before opening the alpha. DayZ alpha keys will go live in batches, possibly 50,000 at a time, and Hall is looking at a possible Kickstarter-inspired distribution model, where players would pay certain amounts to opt into the alpha and snag other goodies, in tiers.

"We want to release the keys in chunks of what we have servers available," Hall says. "The idea is to very, very quickly try to release something out there, because that allows us to start capacity testing. We've got one final thing we're waiting for with the release date, which is the completion of our client-server architecture. It's basically making the game into an MMO, and pretty much the moment that's done, we'll release."

You guys are all wrong. Even you, Incep. :c

Edit;

There were 1000 invites given out at the end of last year. (If I remember correctly.)

These included forum staff, Reddit moderators, BI employees and random people from the forum that the ones already picked recommended. There won't be any more invites being given out, and NOT ALL of the 1000 people have access to the Closed Alpha yet.

Currently there is approximately 50-150 people involved in the Closed Alpha. Once the Alpha is in a stable enough state, it will be released on Steam as an Open Alpha at a low price-point. Estimates are around $7,99 - $14,99.

Boom!

any soldiers out there? If so, I just set the left and right of arcs.

It's not going to be next week (jet lag, etc...). But it's not going to be longer than two months. It will be somewhere in between.

Why not set a date? Because we don't need too, and we don't want to force something out with a glaring game breaking bug just because we set a date, when we didn't need to in the first place.

Furthermore, we have scrapped the keys-in-blocks idea and going for a full access alpha. This means we need to be damn sure our central server will hold whatever load might be thrown at it.

Also remember, I was on tv. I'm always the most conservative on tv be because you get cut up into sound bites and lose the context. When talking to fans etc... I can provide context and be more realistic.

Full alpha access, as in no limit to keys, it will be released on steam available for everyone to buy, and then all the servers will melt.

Great. I asked whether it would be 150, 50000 or unlimited keys and now I have one answer saying 150 keys (inception), one answer saying 50,000 keys (Darryl Dixon) and one answer saying unlimited keys (Fluxley)...

Thanks to everyone who answered though :D

The final answer is "unlimited."

But not before the Closed Alpha has ended. Which has the top limit of 1000 people, all of whom are invited already.

I already know that closed means... well, closed. I just thought that the thing they call 'public alpha' would just be 'alpha for everyone who presses f5 all day'. Thanks everyone :D

Thought so. :(

I had the Closed Alpha and the Open Alpha invite number mixed up.

Heres the most up to date answer. All of the past things said in this post and now completely not correct. (sorry not trying to be rude)

“We’ve set a date now – a window of about a week.”

“We’re not going to say when that is,” he said, “because we were originally going to release them in 50,000 key increments but we decided to do everything altogether.” And the architecture has to be there to support that, he pointed out.

“We really feel like we have to get the alpha out and start getting player feedback on where we’re at here,” he said. Fingers crossed that that means “very soon” and maybe even “this summer”.

Wow, I thought this thread would be dead o_o

Anyways, thanks Vaylt for your helpful answer. You have my beans.

You can wait. That doesn't mean that the rest of the community can wait 2 years, too. I am not someone who is spamming "ReLeaSe da fuck*ng gaMe U moRonS" but to be honest, I'm pretty impatient. And I'd say most of the community members don't want a completely bugged and rushed first release, but don't want to wait until it gets released in a completely finished state (because then it'll take as long as Half-Life 3). Furthermore, the devs want to release it as an alpha on purpose- to fund development towards the final product. If they want to release it as a finished product, they might not even have enough money to do so.
