Bat (DayZ) 230 Posted June 18, 2013 Yeah what about melee? When I see this zombie jumping attack, I'm pretty sure the new skeleton will allow nice smooth melee movement. can't wait!
terrvik 2409 Posted June 18, 2013 i cannot really comprehend that stiff focus on weapons all the time imho...Same here. The survival aspects and the interactions with other players comes first by a long way and is what made me play from the start and what made me continue to play. Guns are secondary, a backdrop and part of the setting; as is the zombies.

My hope is that in the SA guns and PVP will of course still play a major role but the survival element becomes much more of a day to day priority for the player and becomes the main focus. With thousands of new objects and crafting recipies people should now have a lot more to focus on in order to stay alive than just worrying about being shot.Really, the whole concept is an experiment because the devs are trying things that we've never seen in a game before, I think people forget that sometimes.Interesting times ahead... Hopefully it steers away from that focus (without forcing it). The attitude that there should be a lot of guns and focus on military gameplay just because DayZ spawned from a military simulation seems hard to break down, but in my opinion it is necessary that it is! ::)

That's why I was so happy when they decided to use the RV engine and go with BIS because it's something they do better than most and provides a good backbone for the game.Once the game becomes more "balanced" and the gameplay shifts away from being purely a shooter with survival elements then I think we'll really start to enjoy the potential of a game like DayZ. There's already LOADS of games trying to emulate the survival theme but if the devs carry on down the path they've started I don't see anyone able to come close to what they're doing in the near future. The simulation part is great, it's the military part I dislike. Personal opinion and nitpicking obviously but it's the difference between calling yourself a "squad" or a "group". One fits a mil-sim, the other more fits a survival sim with zombies. Edited June 18, 2013 by Terrorviktor
scubaman3d 680 Posted June 18, 2013 Well Scubaman, cheers for clarifying. If at any point you get bored and feel like uploading a sneak peek of a new gun for our loyal members to have a look at don't let me stop you.I'll keep that in mind. I probably could be doing a better job at showing off some progress - at least on the forums. There's a new SVD that I think looks pretty sick and the Mosin Nagant is shaping up beautifuly...The crossbow render with the arrow clipping through the drawstring was unfortunate...think that was a result of us hastily making renders for E3 marketing materials.

Usually it's the other way around ;)Anyway, everythings shaping up well so dont let us keep you from your work, I was only trying my luck by asking. Personally I like not seeing too much until we play, it keeps things interesting. Edited June 18, 2013 by Fraggle
Uuni 74 Posted June 18, 2013 They really need to fix up the movement in this game. I thought the new skeleton would do just that but from the gameplay it still seems that it's incredibly clunky and delayed to an immersion breaking level. They need to look at other 3rd and 1st person shooter games and try to capture the feel of control form games such as warframe or battlefield 3. As much as I love the concept of the game I can't immerse myself into the game if the character handles like a block of steel on ice, that kinda thing is a dealbreaker. They keep saying they'll do something about it and I really hope that's the case and they can find where the problem lies. The whole animation system seems so flawed tbh. The vault over fence is a great improvement but seeing how awkward it was to open doors and move in tight spaces was extremely worrying
godtoldme2killu 2 Posted June 18, 2013 So what if the zombies are not perfect? What zombie mod do you know needs to be 100% perfect in all gameplay methods? The zombies will be only a third of the scenario given there are other survivors to meet and supplies to scavenge or trade with them. Path finding for the zombies would be nicer, but given the limits this game has, only so much could be done before the red carpet is rolled up for good and the game is finished. The new enterable buildings and customized map catches my attention each time an update video is posted. I really hope there are clothes to cover my character's face. Or maybe hijacking a BMP will help me cover a plaza as my team scavenges the buildings for supplies. An artic map, desert map or jungle map would be nice. That brings me to a list of questions: Question 1. Is there tanks? Question 2. Is there rockets/RPGs/missiles? Question 3. Is there Claymores? Question 4. Is there a rappel option available from helicopters? Question 5. Is there Satchel Charges and able to attach to vehicles?Question 6. Is there working repair garages?Question 7. Is there ski masks/balaclava?Question 8. Is there tear gas?Question 9. Is there tranquilizer guns/tazer guns?Question 10. Is there camelback hydration systems?Thank you for reading my reply and I appreciate the upload. Please feel free to give me feedback on these questions or concerns. Bat (DayZ) 230 Posted June 18, 2013 (edited) I think the game looks smoother. Rocket said somewhere they had to chose between realistic animations and more responsive controls (taking into account the way the ArmA 2 engine handles animations). They're focusing on responsive controls, and better 1st person experience, so animations won't be as good as the mod. Edited June 18, 2013 by Bat
Uuni 74 Posted June 18, 2013 Actually nothing really changed at all..That's exactly what worries me. They redid all the animations for the new skeleton and every single one of them looks just as awkward as with the old skeleton. I'll have to see for myself how it handles when I get my hands on the product but the gameplay speaks for itself...

Hadden 16 Posted June 19, 2013 Since we're on the subject I am hoping you go for a more "sporterized" look to the older military rifles so they don't all have that full length wood stock. Sort of like "When grandpa came back from the war he turned this into a hunting rifle" since that is going to be more common than a bunch of pristine antique rifles. It will also make calibers harder to identify at range since they will all look very similar at a distance.

Most sporterisations were not done in factories and were the loving work of enthusiasts. Encountering the same personally customised rifle more than once would be an immersion killer.thesehttp://puu.sh/3j25V.jpgwere a thing, but not common. YZ250 248 Posted June 19, 2013 Just a short post from me, I'm a whore and have watched every Video Interview so far, and now sitting back taking it all in are more than happy with the Development and it's progression.I do hope Sniper Rifles are in the Game, not the Ultra High powered shoot from km's away, but a basic Sniper Rifle. They do make you keep your head down and act accordingly. In regards to Ammo for these Sniper Rifles and even your basic Lee Enfield, having watched that Doomsday Preppers Series, many of them actually have the ability to create their own Ammo , not sure what the machines are called. This sort of thing would be great for Dayz where you could Craft limited amounts of Ammo
