Another way of playing (SURVIVAL VS SHOOTER)

Recommended Posts

Different way of playing

The DayZ was originally advertised as a zombie-apocalypse SURVIVAL SIMULATOR. However, it seems that currently the majority of players do not care about that much about this crucial aspect of the game, instead they perceive DayZ as a shooter, where the only way of how to communicate with other players is by using your gun. I personally think that such an approach is slowly killing the project as it is incompatible with the grounded ideas of DayZ.

Of course, I do not want to say that players should not shoot at each other at all, indeed It is quite fun. What I am trying to say is that many players feel dissatisfied because of the common trend which is present in DayZ nowadays – if you see the player, kill him. Instead, players should try the very best NOT to get into trouble by opening fire as it usually brings mortal danger to the character. Players should value their life and try to SURVIVE, rather than get as many ‘frags’ as possible. This approach is essential for DayZ project, because exactly HARDCORE SURVIVAL was the main feature which made us love the game at the very beginning. Unfortunately, now DayZ is more like a shooter and we do not need another shooter.

Fortunately, in my opinion, this problem might be solved in a few ways:

-first of all, the process of getting a weapon/ammo should be more complicated which would make players value each bullet and think twice before shooting. In addition, it is more realistic;

-secondly, there should be penalties for dying. For example, after each death player will be banned for N hours (24 would be perfect, but even less might work out as well). This would make players act much more carefully and value their life;

-thirdly, the game should itself be perceived as a surviving simulator, NOT a shooter so as to attract only those players who want to survive in a post-zombie apocalypse world, rather than casually run around Chernorus killing everyone they meet. This idea should be emphasised to all new players.

P.S. please, comment on this idea and tell what do you think DayZ is all about. Maybe I am just the only one who thinks so and everyone else is happy with the current situation in DayZ.

P.P.S. sorry for any grammatical mistakes :)

If I had a nickel for one of these types of posts...

But really, this has been discussed to DEATH. They're taking a different approach in the standalone and the mod is trying to do a better job too.

NO. Being a newbie would be horrible. Not only that, but players would hunt down other players for the purpose of trolling them.

This , a 24 hour respawn would either A. Make a new player quit after getting beat down by a zombie. Or B. Bandits would hoard loot/camp spawns to grief for fun.

The KOS will change once Sa comes out cause in the mod the zombies while now buffed , are still glitchy and boring. Sa will amp up the threat/ make zombie killing hopefully more exciting. Plus the loot is supposed to be on a scale 1 being easy to 10 hard to find , as 10 as stated by rocket in a reddit post for SA.

“I don’t think DayZ’s actually a zombie game,” he said.

“It’s a survival game with zombies.

I think there’s room for us.

We’re really pushing into the survival aspect of it.

I think that’s what people want.

The zombies are a good antagonist, so we’re using them. But it’s really a survival game.” © Rocket

Totally agree. Game become death match, non stop shooting, killing on first sight without doubt for a second. Me and my friends really enjoyed the game when it was just came out, when people could crawl

for hours from one town to another. Every zombie was scary, but when we see another armed player heart start pounding. It was really hard to press trigger on innocent player and take his life away.

This game I want to play. Anyway none says that all like to play this way. What I suggest is create hardcore servers with low gun loot amount and death time penalty. Few hours would be make a difference from current situation. I think this will exclude all players who just want to make slaughter and non stop call of duty like PVP.

---

Theres no place for newbie in real life same on real true hardcore server. Remember, you only have single life. And death penalty atleast for 4-8 hours would make big difference. Players will value their character life. At least I hope so!

People who just shoot everyone for fun are griefers. If dying has an even bigger penalty, then that's actually giving griefers more encouragement to kill people!! They're goal is to troll.

What you really should be suggesting is to attach some kind of sensible penalty to killing people that makes it harder for you to survive in the long run.

P.S. play on a RP server to re-discover what DayZ was like originally, before the community got cancer. People still kill each other, but usually it's when trying to stop a robbery, not just killed-on-sight by a sniper on a far hill (who doesn't even want your loot).

I agree. But the core idea is this hardcore servers should eventually form community who really wanna survive and cut off griefers / server jumpers. Survivors will group up and help each other defend from bandits.

Any gameplay mechanism that prevent people from playing the game they bought is pretty offensive.

What I like about DayZ is that it doesn't judge me, if doesn't tell me how to play. Me personally, I'm motivated by increasing my days lived count and prioritize survival higher than gear. That's why I avoid the most competitive areas and generally try avoiding PvP. I don't like getting killed, so I always try to be aware of my surroundings, keep cover and escape routes near and since I don't like getting killed, I don't kill other players if I don't have to.

I like the humanity system with all it's flaws. It's not perfect, it can be concealed and should never be completely trusted, but it works as a simple cross server reputation system.

I don't like bandits, but they play an important role and the mere presence of them in the game affect every single player encounter. Because you never know what motivates the stranger you meet, you have to treat all stranger with both respect and caution.

There wont be much fun in game if there were no bandits and no shooting at all. But its the only possible game style (shoot on sight) right now if you wanna survive. Problem is griefers who shoot everyone they see with no reason. And because of this griefers players are forced not to communicate but shoot first, even if they dont like it. The reason is there is no value of life, which is quite the contrary in real life. You shoot, you got killed, you respawn after 1 minute and you shoot again. People just dont ask themselves do I really need to shoot him or I can go away or try communicate with him. Ofcourse there always will be real bandits (who exist in real life too), but thats not majority of players. What I really suggest is not change whole DayZ. People should be able to play how they want, but whats I am suggesting is create additional servers with death penalty and low gun loot for people who are bored of this non stop PVP and want to roleplay and survive, communicate and really think twice before pull the trigger.

No.

I can constantly get chars up to 4,5,10 and 20 dayz without a shoot on sight mentality. Part of the reason so many get kos is because they rambo run into every situation like a stupid tit :) Oh look someone in the shops/firestation/hospital ...run run run right up to the other player..hey man sup..pew! pew! pew!..WHY YOU SHOOOT ME BRAH ! I HAD NOTHING !

After several times of being shot in similar circumstances instead of changing their gameplay they turn to kos ( if you can't beat 'em join 'em) and then blame other players as their reasoning. To me that is a shit argument :) I have managed over a year with well under a hundred kills (excluding mega military island Namalsk) maybe i am just a weirdo being too patient and sizing up situations. Running around in hotspots like a whackjob i expect to be shot repeatedly though and blame nobody but myself for being a tool.

The other cited reason is boredom (lack of imagination and patience syndrome) and of course the common bandit who then is well within their right to kos as their playstyle.

I dunno, if you come into DayZ with a KOS mentality then i really think you are missing out on some interesting gameplay.

I'm not going to say they are wrong but for me i don't see the point.

Many a time i have had players in my sights and refrained from shooting. It's backfired on me a few times.

I would love to come across more bandits who act like bandits - rob me, kidnap me, tell me to drop my weapon, maybe even break my legs - its much more interesting than being shot at from someone for no apparent reason.

tell me to drop my weapon

i do that, but nobody ever drops it. that makes my kill count too high for my liking. it's like they expect that the guy who could have shot you earlier is now going to shoot you if you do what he said.

Well that's the problem we have the the Sahrani Life community...everyone "roleplaying" someone and doing nothing but killing...making excuses like i'm a mass murderer or i'm a drug dealer, you're a cop so i have to shoot you...as if drug dealers look for a fight with cops IRL...In the end they were overwhelmed by the cop players which i was part of and blamed us not to roleplay...lol

Most shooting just happen because people are bored, we even set up hotspot so we could keep the problematic players away from those who just wanted to "run around". No matter how much you put into a game and give players 1000 choices to play a certain role they will most likely choose the role of the jackass who kills anyone in sight.

You want to survive in dayz? Ok then.

You will need:

Hatchet

Hunting Knife

Matches

Water Bottle

A Tin Can

Go find someplace with fresh water and an animal spawn like Phoeba Dam then kill animals and obtain water while occasionally boiling it with the fire to treat for bacteria. Now you can survive forever.

You also may need medical supplies. Forever just doesn't work without breaking bones and stuff.

Well the idea is you never leave there. You just sit around and survive... I mean then you won't get shot from "asshole" bandits and you would never break your bones. People will never shoot you nor will they find you. If they do? Well you'll probably see them yourself because you don't have anything else better to do other than play with yourself and scan the fields every 10 seconds.
