philbottle 430 Posted June 1, 2013 I think some people are itching for the standalone if only to have a chance to write some petulant comedy. On a more gratifying note, no-one picked up upon the fact that rocket uses a laptop for dayz. I thought that was frowned upon.... I'll come out of the closet, me too. Saving for a desktop but the standalone will first be experienced by a Toshiba satellite pro lolol I hope :D
joona.kujanen@suomi24.fi 62 Posted June 1, 2013 (edited) I prefer simple and easy-to-use inventory over fancy super graphasmic ones... Dunno how some people seem to prefer vanilla Arma 2 inventory system over this one. When it comes to SA nights, I would be more than happy to see pitch black nights IF we could use flashlights, torches etc equipped with our guns/melee. It's clumsy in DayZ mod as only option is to use chemlights (weapon attached lights have never worked when I have tested them). Very Ape 748 Posted June 1, 2013 I would be completely satisfied with nighttime if 'gamma-hacking' were no longer possible.
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted June 1, 2013 (edited) I would be completely satisfied with nighttime if 'gamma-hacking' were no longer possible.Same here. For me, the main issue in the mod is that you can't walk/run with your torch held in front. That's the result of it being a mod, in Arma as a soldier you always have the gear you need to make nights playable. AFAIK this won't be an issue in the SA for various reasons. I like the really pitch black nights, but would be good if they were only that dark occasionally on nights in the lunar-cycle when there is no moon. dgeesio 1034 Posted June 1, 2013 i must say i actually prefer the older inventory we use in the mod now .it looks a bit like its made for a xbox 360 or something. also from the leaked footage going about from what i seen it looks like alot of stuff is from arma 3 which quite frankly sucks ass.the movements are bad animations are odd. arma 2 actually suits the mod better.i guess well have to wait and see how it turns out. Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted June 1, 2013 (edited) I think the thing to focus on with the inventory screen is the new funcionality, not so much the appearance at this point, as stated it's a work-in-progress.Regarding that leaked footage the build being shown is already old. The test server get's updated 5-6 times a day sometimes to test different things. Assets get added/removed frequently so it's not really the best reflection of the current development. Also, this is is neither the Arma 3 nor the Arma 2 engine, it's a modified TOH engine and the standalone will no longer be a mod, it will be a full game (obv. not now, but at some point down the road it will). Like I said, regarding the animations, assets are frequently being added/removed from the test build and it has a long way to go yet, as does Arma 3. If Dayz has the lean features that Arma 3 has then it'll be an amazing addition.
deetaili 49 Posted June 1, 2013 I really like the idea of the new inventory, and I don't mean to be rude, but to me it looks like it's been made to look ugly by choice. :DBut after all it's really inspiring. Here's how I would like to see it in the future (maybe somewhere after the alpha stage..?):I put about one hour of effort to that, most of which to separate the items from the old background. :)
SmashT 10907 Posted June 1, 2013 That looks nice, it needs a hotbar though.
deetaili 49 Posted June 1, 2013 That looks nice, it needs a hotbar though. Thanks! I left the hotbar out on purpose, although it would have taken only like 5 minutes more to add it. I'm pretty sure you get the idea even without it. Just imagine more gray boxes. :D

I liked the animations much more in 1st person than the ArmA 2 ones and it's still an alpha. I imagine the full game will have even better then the current ones. Also, people don't play ArmA 3 because: a) Some people only care about the finished product and don't want to play the alpha, but bought it for the bargain price, b)A lot of people don't actually play ArmA 2, they only play DayZ, but on steam it still pops up as ArmA2:OA. Btw they should try the Co-Op ArmA 2 missions, they are great imo. Edited June 1, 2013 by Armaggedon97
loopy_loppy26@hotmail.com 18 Posted June 1, 2013 All this talk we've heard about improved performance has me curious, does this mean we may now be seeing support for high fps caps? given appropriate hardware and of course a oc/d or 120hz monitor?

Katana67 2907 Posted June 1, 2013 (edited) I don't get how one can say ARMA 2's animations are good and/or preferable to ARMA 3's.In ARMA 2, you lean by snapping your spine/hips in half at a 45 degree angle. Humans don't move like that, unless they're hula dancers. ARMA 3's leans are not only more incremental, rather than INSTANTLY jerking to the side, they are also much more natural in pose.I would also love to hear the definition of "consoley". Because that interface looks FAR more complex than any console UI I've seen. If by "consoley", you mean simple, slick, and intuitive... then yeah, it might be "consoley". But in UI, that is the name of the game. Plus, look at the added functionality. Not only can you craft in this interface, there is a hotbar, apparent drag and drop interface, layered additions to your characters loadout, hide/show buttons.ARMA 2's inventory is way too clunky for its own good, so I don't get how an inventory that adds more functionality and is more intuitive to operate is somehow a bad thing and/or equatable to "console".I mean, what more do you want? Sure it could look prettier, but that will obviously come later.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Rocket, if you're still browsing, can you tell us how the weapons are going? How are the attachments being implemented? What kind of interface will be used for this? Will there be specific attachments for weapons? (i.e. .308 suppressor, 5.45x39 suppressor, .303 suppressor). Will some of these be crafted? (i.e. MagLite suppressor, oil filter suppressor, potato suppressor, bottle suppressor with decreased longevity). Will optics be interchangable or will we have to find specific optics/mounts? (i.e. PSO scope, optics requiring picatinny rails, etc.) Will rail systems be rarely available to allow the attachment of picatinny/1913 attachments to AK's and the like, are they being rendered with that capability, or will there be reason to search for specific matching attachments? sbiggstv 1 Posted June 1, 2013 I agree that the UI from deetaili does look better, and I am tempted to say its the boxes in the central bar where you drag and drop clothes to. They are the same size and gives a sense of symmetry, rather than the multisized and scattered look of the current UI from OP.Just read through the topic, in terms of those just saying "UI looks terrible", how about you help the development in terms of a suggestion to how you would improve it so that rocket can read it up, rather than just stamping you feet saying you don't like it. You obviously have the interest of the game in your heart as your on here alot, so be constructive. That's unless your on here as you have nothing better to do. I hope we can see constructive critism in future. :)A question for rocket:I'm sure its a no, but will there be the ability to drag items such as furniture to block doorways etc? had this image of being stuck in Cherno late at 4am, nearly sunlight but still pitch black. You've thrown your last flare and you need a safehouse for an hour or 2 before daylight comes. So you run into a building put a sofa in front of the door to keep the zombles out and loot the buiilding and get some rest before day.

This is ultimately what I'd like in lieu of player house construction, just using the existing houses as shelter.
