[SA]Who you were before shit hit the fan .

This idea is meant for a more advanced stage of release .

Basically it's the fact that your character was someone before it all went to shit . He/She could have been a doctor , a mechanic, etc . And this "professions" are randomly chosen on spawn (because , I think if they are not randomly chosen , everybody would be either soldier or a doctor ,which will just ruin the feel if the entire system , it doesn't make sense that you're able to do everything from riding a bike to flying a heli .This will encourage teamwork and less kill on sight , because the thing that will be going through your head is "Do I need him/her ?" not "What kind of loot does he/she has?") could also be part of the background story-line , which can be like ; you wanna find your spouse , parents or friends that would have survived the apocalypse .

And those people are actually real . It's completely random on each server , for example , a guy spawned with a name fin00001 and there was another female player with name ella00506 and one of your story-line quests is to find her , give her food and keep her protected , it wont be like any boring mmo quest where you go give NPC the item and take off . You will not know whether the apocalypse has gotten to her head or is she still normal . I think it would actually be fun to team up with someone that the story-line thinks is your brother , your uncle , your sister , etc etc.. It would be part of the adventure to play with someone completely random .

this would be a good idea but not for standalone as it's supposed to make you make your own choices, but maybe a new version of DayZRP.

like the idea of some sort of back story based skillset however if I spawn as a doctor and then decide I do not like it what is to stop be running into some z's and then respawning as something else? nothing really...

it would ned to be diferent in its implementation perhaps by way of skillsets that develop as the player progresses.

The point of DayZ is to survive. Not do quests.

Nor should DayZ have "specalties" like you suggested. I see where you're coming from, but that would be unrealistic within itself. If you're going to make character spawn randomly as soldiers, or doctors, or mechanics. You would have to add in accountants, strippers (I'll take this thanks), teachers, priests, *insert thousands of jobs here* or else DayZ will just turn into a "class" game. The point of DayZ is for the player to choose their path, not the game.

Plus people would just suicide untill they get the class they want.

it could have special traits they could be available to all and training in them would be via actions you normally perform. so if you repair alot ov vehicles youll get some sort of boost to vehicle repair.. maybe youll be able to mend wheels once before you replace them etc etc..

The thing is, a "class" or "leveling" system would completely change DayZ, for the worse. There should be nothing that you can use to "aid" you such as a leveling system.

And yes, my name would be "Sassy Statik." I can see it already.

I think this is one of those amazing ideas that will have to wait untill Hall isnt working on standalone or something important. Oh WAIT! Thats now, we have been waiting for so long for SA and all they do is make the release date further so marketing works out. EVERYONE that plays dayz will get SA so please Bohemia and Rocket, just give us the damn game. That was a bit off topic, but anyways good idea! And for players that think you could commit suicide to change your class, well there could be timers, so your class would only change if you died after an hour or so, long enough for the player to get gear and not want to commit suicide.

I see your point , but that is not the idea . I didn't say give them traits , it's just part of the story-line of all this thing . I know what what you guys are talking about , and I would hate it to turn DayZ into some quest based game . And this feature is only a luxury , and I'm just too damn free to talk about it before the game is released . I know it should be the player's choice how to play the game ,however it would spice things up when I said

If I had a dollar for everytime I saw a post like this.

The SA will be out when it's out. If rocket just released it so you guys would "get your damn game already" we would all be playing DayZ SA right now! Wouldn't that be awesome? Except for the fact that you would be playing a polished version of the mod, instead of a whole new game.

But lots of people don't want to play like that. They want to set their own objectives.

I want to be able to spawn, see where I spawn, and go from there, make it my story. I don't want to spawn and see "Bob123 is located somewhere on the map! You must find and assist him!" (not to mention the problems that would go along with something of that nature.).

The idea of DayZ is to spawn completely fucked more or less. You should be equal to other players, and your main boost is your mind, not your "doctor boost" or your "soldier boost."

Well in your OP you said assist them.

But I think it's key that DayZ stays a raw survival game, where the player chooses their path 110% nothing is chosen for them by the game.

But rocket did say there will be a story-line , but it's optional . He said you can forgot about completely , if you want to .

I've been thinking about stuff like this but ive also attempted to keep them from changing the game too radically, and that has always seemed impossible.

I think there's just no logic in being able to fix a car or a helicopter, pilot a helicopter, and still be able to fix the leg of your friend. "Soldier" class would be something that should never get added, if anykind of class system at all. It won't fit DayZ, and the only classes that could be thought of are mechanic, pilot and doctor. And everybody of them can handle a gun, so they are soldiers also. That's too few professions if doing different things in DayZ requires your character to have profession-based skill for it. And making more professions could be a bit too artificial.

And the "finding specific player" "quest", sounds a bit hilarious to me considering the nature of DayZ. In the end it could mean like "If you kill this person during your life you are lucky" because the person you're supposed to find might be more interested about what he/she gets by killing you rather than your epic quest. And what would the reward be, and who would give you that reward?

It sounds nice but makes no sense in the end.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind setting up an 'ID card' for your character upon creation where you select from a bunch of professions so that when you get killed and someone views your body they can see 'mr/ms blah blah was a blah blah'. Maybe some more useless info like 'they travelled X amount of km's and was inclined to helping others'.

Further then that, I don't want any limitations to what my character can do. If I see someone flying a helicopter or patching someone up, I wanna know I can do that

Another way this could work is to be able to pick 1 or 2 skills in which your character would be proficient, and not have the perks be to extreme.

For instance, a Soldier skill would give the player a %3 accuracy bonus when using two handed firearms, and a Doctor skill could decrease the time it took to use medical supplies by a small ammount, like 1-3 seconds, that way you could still have a perk system but not have it impact gameplay to much.

Also, Priests should give you a "Cross"bow, get it? CrossBow?

indeed he did say this.. along with beta being released in june woOo.. it was a year ago yesterday i got the original dayz and oh man that was a special time in a cactus's life ^_^
