choose what type of person you spawn as.

Recommended Posts

I would love to some kinda system to choose who you spawn as and start with different equipment.(and of course servers could customise it)

For instance you can choose to spawn as a civilian and start off with a pistol and a semi working car and a great food supply.

Maybe spawn has a solder and start off with a military weapon and limited food. ( different types of solders like a sniper, paratrooper, infantry man, medic, and have supplies adjusted)

maybe a local farmer? And start off at a farm.

maybe a local mechanic?

only problem i forsee is everyone spawning as a sniper or something stupid but thats where the server admins can come in customise stuff and just take the function out completely and every one start off as a civilian on the coast. for example adjust snipers to spawn with a rifle but no ammo and in the middle of nowhere.

I think would add a realistic feel to it.

the possibilities of having to interact with different players and trading services.

for example; a civilian drives down the coast and encounters a soldier spawn walking could give him a lift and have a solder protection, or could leave him in the dust.

this might be a old suggestion or already implemented on servers, i just started playing a week ago.

might be good for business to.

them long walks on the beach after a death is frustrating for new comers and i think scares people away from the game.

i'm pretty new to this game.

only bad thing about it is i didn't start playing it sooner.

Exactly. Everyone will just run around as a soldier.

I think Rocket said something about an age selecter. The older you are, the harder it is to play. An amazing way to make a difficulty slider without actually making a difficulty slider.

well yeah, but there are servers that let you start off with sniper rifle.

like you could be a sniper with a dmr but no ammo. or you can be a civilian with a car but no gun, a soldier with a assault rifle but no food and water.. just examples. server admins would change it. maybe just have different type of civilians and which one you pick will dictate where and what you start off with.

spawning as a military person you could choose to pick off civilians or work with them. but either way you go you have a need for anothers starting loadout.

But you're still starting with a headstart. No from me, sorry.

what is the point of scavenging if you start with everything you need...

This is a survival game not a, kill your friends w/zeds game.

Kinda defeats the purpose if you ask me

not necessarily start with everything you need.

just enough to make a small influence on where and what you start off with.

like i was just using those as examples.

maybe just make different type of civilian load outs.

Farmer

Doctor

Tourist

Mechanic.

and each will spawn in there respectable place. with just a small boost in spawn gear.

the possibilities are endless.

servers will do different things.

really no different in what they do now.

some servers you start off with a bunch of gear and some absolutely nothing.

in a nutshell have a option to choose a load out, and a good server will balance all the options.

if you start off with a couple things it wont kill the game.

you eventually gonna need ammo and food/water.

most servers give you basic starting supplies anyway

Any server which starts you with gear, is missing the point of the game.

IMO, even a backpack and bandage is too much.

If you spawn with ANYTHING useful, folks will drive up and down the coast, killing new spawns and taking their stuff.

So yeah, it'll kill the game.

Oh ii hope this is true?

I would love to have an age selector and choose an 85 geriatric woman, with a bad hip, poor eyesight and an inability to eat solid food.

No... the purpose of DayZ is to start out with nothing and work your way up. It would be extremely boring to start out with an assault rifle or a ton of food. The classes wouldn't be balanced either. The soldier would be the best because food is really easy to find and you don't have to do any work to get a gun.

IMO everyone should just start with nothing but the clothes on their back.

thats insanity.

you have to start with something.

if you were a civilian or a solder in a zombie apocalypse you would have nothing but the cloths on your back?

giving servers more spawn options would be great.

and ok if you like to start out with nothing could join a server that has stripped down load outs.

a civilian with nothing but a thing of food spawns on the coast

a mechanic with nothing but a toolbox that spawns around a city.

... ect. people are missing the point.

Perhaps with the different characters there are different "quests" such as a civilian is trying to rescue a relative at location x, a military person is serve on the line of a high combat area killing bandits or dangerous Z type, medic to heal x number of personell etc. The military personell could be spawned as a group in a seiged army base being attacked, making survival of the starting zone problematic. Perhaps the specifics of the idea isn't realistic but the concept of a randomised quest for the characters that could serve as a long term goal, find x and escort to location y. Some sort of narrative component...

yeah thats great for people that have been playing and know what their doing.

but that when things gets really frustrating.

spend 2 hours gathering supplies and die to some strange bugged zombie hitting me through a wall.

imagine if you were a newer player trying to learn how to play.

and remember people were not discussing starting items.

were talking about servers ability to give a player options to spawn.

it be a lot of supplies or not, is not the issue.

could be as little as what clothes you start off with and what areas you spawn in.

Of course you don't, who in reality would be carrying around a backpack and military grade bandage just in case of a zombie apocalypse? If there is to be any starter gear, which I don't think there needs to be, it should be small, common, somewhat useless civilian items that are given to you randomly. Something that a normal person would carry on them. It should also be random. For example, you could have a chance of spawning with a watch, or a cellphone, or a pen, or any combination of any of these kinds of items. I think that's reasonable and would give the game a bit more authenticity.

That kind of glitch can happen whether you have gear or not. That was how my last death happened. I lost a CZ 550, a decent backpack and a bunch of medical supplies. I bled out before my friend could even start bandaging me. If something like this is your problem you should make suggestions about it, although I'm sure it is being worked on.

someone in the military!

i actually have a military grade first aid kit.

i think in most cases if a zombie apocalypse were to happen the majority of us wouldn't have nothing.

the lot of us own cars and guns. have fully stocked pantries.

well at least over here in the states.

but i personally like starting off with minimal gear. its imo more fun.

I think what you're forgetting is that we are people who washed up on a foreign beach with nothing but the things we have on our person. At least in the mod, anyways. I usually don't carry around a car, a gun, and a fully stocked pantry.

So thats why I'm saying that some civilian-esque items that are randomly given on spawn would be okay, but nothing that would give you any distinct advantage and nothing you get to choose.

i agree.

choosing a role before the infection would make it feel more authentic.

make a small impact on starting items and spawn points.

That's not what I said.

I'm saying that allowing people to choose their starter gear would be bad. I think that small civilian devices that practically everyone carries such as a watch or cellphone could be given on spawn, but randomly. You may get several items and you may get nothing. Maybe a bit of random clothing as well.
