People shooting freshspawns

Recommended Posts

I just played some DayZ. I decided to go on a private hive where I had no gear. I spawned at balota and ran to the ATC. When I was running there 2 guys (I think fully geared, sounded like they had good guns) killed me. I wasn't even playing for 3 minutes on that server. Are these people "bandits" or just dicks?

A bandit will hold you up and take your things, only shooting you if you don't comply. Difference between a bandit and some who KoS.

A bandit can still be someone who KoS. Back when I was a bandit and I tried to do a hold up, I found that most of the time the person would just combat log or try and shoot me. I found it easier to just stalk and shoot. I'm a hero now so I don't do player killing except in self defense or when I see a bandit murdering other players, but from my bandit experience, that is what usually happened.

Just dicks. Decent bandits can KOS though, just not fresh spawns. Remember that even as a fresh spawn you have to tread carefully.

Top tip: Don't go to a gun fight without a gun.

Running blindly into a known PvP area is never a good idea unless you have a gun and, even better, friends with guns.

True, but kind of misses the point.

A bandit will rob and tell an unarmed fresh spawn to leave the area - preventing them from getting armed... if they don't comply, then killing them is fine. A - what's the word used? - right... a dick simply kills a fresh spawn on sight.

Yup, killing fresh spawns is generally not considered okay. I don't see the point to it since it's not even a kill to be slightly proud of. I've killed some when they surprised me and I didn't think to check their hands for dangerous weapons. Haven't killed anyone completely unarmed (that I can remember). I don't consider someone with a Winchester or an Enfield a "fresh spawn" anymore.

They were just trying to help you get a better spawn location.

I laughed, then I cried.

OP, they were dicks. I've never understood killing a fresh spawn, unarmed survivor (bandit skin exceptions of course), especially on the coast near a spawn point.

some people prefer goals that are simple. Like raising the "player killed" number on their virtual penis.

Combine the inability to fight good players with the desire to raise your own kill-count and you have Newspawn-KOS.

tl;dr: yes. Dicks. short, prepuberty dicks.

trying to prevent threat is what I think people selfishly do.

what they think is a threat!

Usually not every threat we fight is real...

I mean they be dicks because they are scared fresh spawns will gear up and kill them eventually this is just how I see it.

If he's moving away from you, or you meet him away from any buildings like on the beach, then leave him I suppose. If he's close to a building, then drop him without hesitation... he may just get a gun in there.

*thinks back to all the times at Balota airfield*

I've found tons of guns there. Those guys who were fully geared probably didn't want you to get a gun and end up killing them, which was highly probable. Just to let you go wouldn't be enough, so it's better for everyone if you were eliminated and they went on their way.

Cries of "friendly" and "don't shoot" are squandered by the weight that most people can't trust another's word anymore.

Sure, they could have been guys out and about just killing you for the LoLs, but I've had to do this myself and for much better reasons. The fact they were at Balota suggests it was an ammo trip, NV hunt, or something to do with that. If you were in Electro I'd think more toward the 'dick' statement.

I don't understand the hate.

I don't do it myself, since I'm more of a 'hold-up' guy, but shouldn't you be at risk of death from the moment you spawn? People who stalk fresh spawns make the game challenging, it's fun knowing that I can't just breeze through getting the basics (bag, food, knife, etc.)

So let me make sure I have this correct.

DayZ's over all rule is to survive.

You spawned and ran straight to a medium military value ATC.

Upon getting to the ATC tower, you are shot.

You failed to survive.

That is what I took out of it.

So you're a fresh spawn. That suddenly makes you immune to being shot at? This unwritten rule of don't shoot fresh spawns is just that... unwritten. If DayZ didn't want fresh spawns to be shot and killed then a system would have been put in place that prevents it from happening. But guess what? There is no system in place. Fresh spawns are at the mercy of the DayZ world, just as everyone else is. It is not going to take into account how long you've been playing that life for.

You, crybaby, should have taken better precaution upon entering a KNOWN area that can be dangerous. Just because they shot you does not mean they are "dicks". Just because you got killed does not mean it was their fault. Seems to me like you failed to survive. Seems to me you failed to take precautionary steps to avoid being shot. Maybe they were just in a fire-fight and you came along. Maybe relaying information to teammates. Maybe there was a gun in the ATC that they couldn't pick up, or were in the process of getting ready to move it. And you came along and they didn't want to take a chance of you finding said weapon and turning it on them.

MAYBE PEOPLE SHOULD STOP EXPECTING TO LIVE, AND BE LEFT ALONE, JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE A FRESH SPAWN!

MAYBE FRESH SPAWNS SHOULD ACT LIKE THEY HAVE NOTHING AND PLAN THEIR APPROACHES ACCORDINGLY! Of course that would be common sense. And these people who cry about being shot as a fresh spawn seem to have none.

Seems to me like they were NOT sitting on the beach waiting for fresh spawns to come in and shooting them. Big difference in my valid opinion.

Maybe you should go play a different game that does not have any kind of confrontation.

Yup, it wouldn't be as fun if you had no fear as a fresh spawn. It's still kind of douchey to run up and shoot them, though, but like the mosquito, perhaps necessary. <_<

I tend not to like the people who run up and blast you in the face; at least coast snipers are getting some practice.

Yeah I don't like it but it did make me laugh.

Though i don't KOS i can see why they did it.

They didn't know you and you were in an area where quite good weaponry can spawn. To them you were a possible threat, though they could have at least spoken to you. All they had to do was tell you to get on the floor and stay put until they left the area.

But...in an area like an airfield players get very twitchy fingers.

I KoS not because I'm a 'dick' but because you at any second could find a weapon and kill me. Whats the point in me risking it when I could just kill you and take whatever you have. For the record if I'm at Balota/Cherno/Elektro I'm usually a recent fresh spawn anyway.

Dayz is a harsh world at the core of it.

Griefers combing the beaches for fresh spawns are pretty much lowlife though.

I remember when the servers were hard to log in to, you would be waiting for 15 mins half an hour to load, then arrive on the beach and bam... Wait for another half an hour.

Now that was annoying. Getting shot on the beach now, so what?

No one robs anymore...anyone that still does usually doesn't get the gear because the person just logs....You can't call someone a dick because of the their actions in a video game.
