DayZ Developer Blog 15th April Highest one ever

"New road decals have been created by Mario for the roads so it looks like they have a damaged look to them, to give the world more of a feel like “the Road”."

I always thought when playing DayZ that I was put into a scenario of a Zombie Holocaust that has only recently happened, hence there is Ammo, Food , Guns to be found etc. What makes no sense to me, it may to you, and just me, is that all the Buildings and now Road Signs are being made to look is if the Outbreak happened more than Year or so ago, rusted Vehicles etc.

I have trouble getting my head around that after a year or more there would be Weapons, Food, Ammo, etc found anywhere, people would get almost all of it within the first month or two one would think. Vehicles also wouldnt even start, batteries etc would be stuffed. Food , Ammo and Weapons you would probably only find if you stumbled upon someones cache in their basement or something.

What's your thoughts ??

So when is the Holocaust supposed to have started when you join the Game, haven't heard Dean ever discuss this. In the scheme of things I guess it doesnt matter, but if you like me love the Zombie Genre your imagination takes over and you imerse yourself in the Game.

I don't actually think it takes too long for man made structures and roads to fall apart without proper maintenance. I know that where i live every time there is a heavy downpour huge pot holes appear on the roads and need continually fixing. If the roads were left alone for 6 months they would be washed away. Vegetation as well runs rampant if left untended for any length of time.

Granted, Queensland isn't the same as Eastern Europe but it would surprise people to know what happens without our intervention (anyone seen that documentary Life After People? Great show)

I know what you mean about food and ammo though - after a few months most of it would have been looted. Stuff you found would most likely be stashed away in cupboards, basements, cellars etc

Does anyone know if radios will pick up all sounds that happen near them like footsteps and gunshots? If they only pick up voice or text chat then they still won't really work for traps.

Again gummy trolling with his vehicle issue... so many people had said it so many times and you just dont want to realize how things are going and how enormous amount of stuff is already done.

So please, stop.

I agree to the ones talking about the radios, It would be neat little extra but I wont stop using teamspeak because of that. That is only because others wont, I would rather be on a same level with them.

If the game could force to you use radios and block other voip programs on the background, would be nice.

Just my opinnion on the matter.

I will for sure use no teamspeak (never did) ! Using radios, pen and paper (leaving notes) and giving signals ( smoke, flares etc) only will add so much to the game..I am not for banning ts but hopefully we will see some ts free servers one day.

Does anyone else think that Bohemia Interactive is managing their time poorly? Radio implementation sounds interesting, but shouldn't they be dedicating more resources to implementing features that already exist in the Mod? Shouldn't the Standalone Alpha be held to a higher standard than the Mod Alpha? Do we really need to take steps backwards?

For anyone unaware, Bohemia has officially decided not to include things such as vehicles in the Alpha. If they release in June (best case scenario), then it means programming server side unit movement (zombies/players) took roughly a year. I think it's safe to assume that it could take them months to implement and debug vehicles, and additional months for any other missing features. Supposedly they do not intend to begin working on them until after the game is available for purchase on Steam.

No vehicles in alpha release doesn't mean there won't be any in alpha and they are definately in beta. Some steps backwards from the mod is sometimes needed to implement things better. Though you're right that some basic stuf

is nice to have for example hunting and cooking so we could enjoy the game better. We don't know yet how featureless the alpha release will be compared to the mod.

I correct they have decided not to include vehicles in THE RELEASE of the alpha. Zombies and server architecture are really much bigger work than just adding vehicles and weapons but you are right that adding those won' just take couple days. If you don't like some features missing then don't get in alpha and wait for the v 1.0. Dean has said that the developement won't be short.

I used TS when playing the mod but that was only because Side Chat was just such a bonerkill.. not to mention it would just wind everyone up on the server.. With this radio system (and what I hope will have frequency adjustment for specific channels) and note-making system though, the immersion is going to be go through the roof.

I personally will be ditching TS if the in-game comms are as awesome as I'm picturing..

Well we use Ventrillo, better imo. When you have 20 plus in your group all playing, its better for getting organised. Ingame Chat mostly attracts dickheads, not always but its common

The radio could be used to set traps. You can set them on the ground and use them to listen for other players.

I would imagine players using the radios to eavesdrop on other players rather than using them with friends instead of TS/Skype. Like you say people aren't going to give up TS/Skype.

But then again you will probably be able to scan frequencies and possibly chat to people you don't know or haven't met yet. Send out an SOS and see who comes to your "rescue"

Who will you listen in on.. when they are using TS/Skype as well? It's an awesome concept. I think allot of people will reenact I am Legend or Walking dead, but Listening in conversations will probably leave you with an even longer beard :)

In european servers it wouldn't matter much, so many languages ;)

Nice surprise, this devblog

Better step your language game up.. if you want to survive :P

This why the radios must pickup all ambient sounds, vehicles gunshots zombies etc, otherwise its going to be a sorely underused feature.

I've been thinking about radios being added a lot and I'm not sure (just my thoughts) that the intention is to replace or even try to replace 3rd party software (such as Teamspeak) because that would be a pointless battle that can never be won.

If you think that when released (and hopefully for a long time afterwards) most people will be playing on public servers like the good old days. This means that people will move a round a lot more and you're very likely to be playing on a server with many other groups or players you've never seen before. When you play as a group on TS it doesn't mean that everyone on the server is also in your TS so you still have no way to contact them without sidechat, that's why so many people like sidechat.

Only time will tell how useful they'll prove to be but I think aside from setting traps or spying, people will use them a lot for basic communication with other groups across the server, or individuals. I think they're a nice elegant solution to not having sidechat and the fact you have to find them first means they will probably become pretty valuable items, especially if you have the headphones for them.

Are radios going to be factoring in range and signal?

No idea. I would hope so because it would help you to get an idea of a location of another user. They described it as a more basic version of ACRE which basically simulates radios amazingly well including distance ect. I guess it depends how basic they mean :/

Radios sound like fun.

Once you figure out what frequency someone is using, you could wait until they're close to zombies and then speak very quietly to them over the radio. Wait until they turn the volume up (instinctive reaction) and then yell into yours in the hope that this alerts the zombies to the other player's presence.

Edit - I'll change this post because I got confused between Steam Workshop and Steamworks :/

I think this has been one of my fav blogs. I prefer just a nice list of things being worked on. Screenshots/vids are always nice but TBH when the screenshots/vids are of unfinished content I think it can do more harm than good because some people will watch them and assume that its the finished product.

i am shocked to see how fast and far progess is going with development already, i mean gas masks? can openers? freakin radio headsets?

then again i can only put hats off to rocket for living his dream, climbing mt. everest - we are not talking about some random mount here...

hopefully his experience will have some impact on the game. this would be awesome. WINTER IS COMMING

Lol, exactly. When they post vids/screenies those images do the rounds and get seen by people that may be interested in the SA but don't really follow development, which may give them a skewed idea of what the SA will actually be like or where they are at in terms of development.

Im all for the immersion, but sadly it wont work so good when other people are chatting thru ts/vent etc. It doesnt only go for the radio but the direct chat etc. Someday I would like to see people using ingame direct chat and mic that you could really hear them speaking, not with 3th party voip now.. its like everyone is telepathic.

Now you are "forced" to use those yourself if you want to "survive" in game.. Also when you are fresh spawn with your friend etc, no radios so people are driven to use teamspeak to even find each other...

Also I can imagine when both guys find radios and send the frequency to each other with skype :D

I agree but as I said the intention (IMO) isn't to replace TS, it's for communicating with others on the map who you don't know as many currently use sidechat for now.
