SA: 'No advanced weapons'

Recommended Posts

'It's not going to be about advanced weaponry. The only advanced weapons that are going to be in are the ones with attachments'.

That's what Rocket said at PAX.

So... does this mean no more AS50, M107, MK MOD 0, Fal/NV etc?

Seriously. No more OP point-and-click wonder-wands?

I am cautiously optimistic. I feel that the AS50 and M107 have no place in a game like this, and 'no advanced weapons' is a quote I am quite excited about... But will rocket really deprive the endless rabid hill snipers of their point-and-click killing capabilities?

15:02 is when he says it.

Hope level is through the roof. As a sniper myself, I so hope that this is true.

Should've never been there in the first place. Fingers crossed for a more challenging weaponry.

I think they were there as anti-materiel rifles. Taking out helicopters and shiz.

I hope they remove the helicopters with door guns, too, so then the people who do want the AS50 in the standalone won't have a goddamn leg to stand on.

As Chernarus does have military bases on it, it would kind of make sense to have high-powered weapons in the game. The AS50 is quite high-powered though, so sticking to the DMR or M40A3 is suitable.

I wonder where crafting will take weaponary? Could we make some great Mellee weapons? Spade and hedge trimmer head lopper? Defend against that you Motorbike helmet wearing chopper!

i hope the UH-1H stays, as i love the huey bit without the door guns, we only use them for the bark of scaring people that are trying to take us down as accuracy is poor. So i would want to see them gone but keep the huey :3

If helis were just impossible to get then I'd not have a problem with helis, but since people seem to like 500 vehicles and 12 helicopters, it wouldn't matter.

I'm happy with just cars.

Rocket said, as a side note, that they want to recreate the original dayZ experience before adding higher powered weapons.

I think there will be higher powered guns later, but probably a lot harder to get.

I think it's a good decision to leave the high powered guns out at first, to make people use the other features. Heard too often "why are there guns if shooting people is not what it is about".

Not having those guns, would help...

Well this should be interesting, I wonder what type of guns they'll be including.

I'd be shocked if it did... this isn't 'Nam...

I can almost guarantee it will still have high-powered rifles but Ican imagine the rifles that will be removed will be the overpowered rifles (M107, AS50).

They have no real reason to be found so much and they are pretty unbalanced as far as being able to 1 shot someone from a kilometer away goes.

As far as helicopters with door gunners are concerned - they won't be a problem in the standalone whatsoever.

The main problem are the guns, every server restart they get refilled, this won't happen in the standalone.

If you've ever really flown around in a chopper a lot, those bullets go VERY quickly, they will certainly be used more sparingly when actually finding ammo for it becomes a serious issue.

Rockets "the guns with extensions will be the best guns"-comment suggests that there will be civilian rifles. I think he mentioned in one interview that the mosin nagant requested by many will be in from the start. Let's hope that those subtle indications are a good sign.

"removed" is not the right word, as ALL weapons have been removed.

The question is, which weapons they will re-build first and which they might even leave out of the game for good.

Don't forget that the weapons are entirely remade. New models, new System, new everything. So it's not even possible to get the Weapons from DayZ Mod into Standalone without heavy modification.

Well, there is a lot more to DayZ than weapons, new sytems and features hopefully will take away the KOS mentality, having no advanced weapons in the game is a good idea. Crafting items in game can (Potentially) allow players to make their own weapons and features, which is what I would like to see (Picture Metro styled weapons being made via players)

Give the players a way and means to create their own "advanced weapons" to a degree without just having them lying around the floor of some crash site and barracks. Remember a lot of items will be broken when found and may need repair anyway. without the means to repair them an AS50 will just be a heavy stick. Same goes with vehicles, judging from the Blogs, most of the cars are too ruined to be salvaged for any parts, tools are needed for repair and fitting.

More than happy to not see anymore "insta-kills" such as the AS-50. An ordinary L-E/CZ-550/Mosin Nagant with a moderate scope should be the top.

Finally. How is it realistic to be "surviving" a zombie apocalypse with a ghillie, NVG, DMR, rangefinder, coyote, C4 and etc. DayZ is supposed to be realistic surviving

Crafting should be limited they should have bows and better crossbows too just to keep the fact that we are limited to resources.

You people sure are blind. High powered weaponry is found everywhere. I personally own several hunting rifles that would kill you in 1 shot, no head shot needed. My 8mm Weatherby Mag hits with 3800 foot pounds of energy at 800 yrds. It would put a hole coming out of your back the size of a basketball if I gut shot you with it. You talk about realism but the fact remains military loot would be astoundingly present in any actual scenario like a real Zed Apocalypse, because there are huge stores of such equipment out there on the actual bases.

I can see them making them hard to acquire due to balancing issues, don't get me wrong, but honestly your comments about realism being the reason are certainly fantasy.

In the real world guns are tremendously tough, to damage one takes a lot of force, dropping it on the ground via death throws from being eaten etc would hardly effect most weapons. I would be happy to see them focus on having to learn things like crafting ammo for weapons of such high caliber as a balancing tool rather than just eliminating them all together, as of now they are the only real "endgame" that is forseeable and that exists currently.

And before you say it no, I do not hunt fresh spawns with my M107. However I do enjoy using it to kill other snipers who do. It took a significant amount of time to actually find one and learn to use it, would I still desire it if it took me 10x longer? Hell yes. That's what makes it exciting.

You can only get that feeling of terror and rush of victory in a game like this where you stand to loose everything, hours and hours of playtime, in a heartbeat on a bad decision. I love this mod.

id like to see a "army of 2" styled approach. Think about it. Instead of finding a gun just barebones and having to collect the specific attachments for it. Have the ability to add parts to the gun even if they aren't exact fit. A makeshift, player created weapon. Each thing you add could increase or decrease the weapons performance. This would also add lots of variety to the weapons you can have in game

I certainly hope there will be no advanced vehicles. It's getting ridiculous on many servers where armored vehicles with mounted weapons and combat helicopters/planes are allowed.

I just do not get you people. In my opinion nothing in this game is overpowered, and the people who don't want certain guns sound like carebears who don't want really dangerous things in the game. The cz550 is a "point and click" "wonder wand". Those are also words I hate. it sounds so damn stupid and whinny. Should we also get rid of the cz550? Or a future mosin? When you get tired of being sniped by those will you complain that they are OP and petition their removal from the game?

I'm sorry to say that a rifle that does 5.6 times as much bugged damage as an M107 and that can kill people by hitting their toe, is, in fact, overpowered.

I wasn't aware the CZ550 was a one shot kill weapon in game.. No matter what defense someone can come up with, it's still going to be easier to hit the body of a moving target at 600 meters with an AS50 than it would be to hit the head of a moving target at 600 meters with a DMR or CZ.

That said, we don't really know how damage is going to work in the SA. Getting shot in the toe by something like an AS50, for example, might not kill. I also think the rarity of ammo would have a huge impact the chopper gunners and any high end weapons that make it into the game. Not to mention the changes to the zombies, the changes to the map, perhaps even any changes to fuel supplies, etc. I'm excited to see what they do but it sounds like things are going to play differently from what we're used to.

Exactly this.

The difference between body parts I imagine will play a huge part in the standalone - no more 1 shot kill for being shot in the foot.

I think it will balance longer range fighting quite a bit.

Those weapons exists IRL, therebefore, they exist in an hypothetical apocalyptic world. There's no reason to get rid of them. Though, I would love snipers capabilities to be nerfed, but this must be done adding wind effect, having to adjust your scope and so on.
