I personally think they've missed the boat on this one, it needed to be launched months ago and now they're going to fight for everyone's time with all the major releases. Also though talking to friends most of them say they don't care any more, they were into Dayz last year and just have no interest in it now. I'm feeling the same way but I know I'll still play it, I'm just bored of the mod, I was bored of it in Sept of last year and have been waiting for SA ever since.

I think just release Alpha on Steam forums and let people host their own private hives. I'd love to play a game with lots of development going on, Early Access makes it obvious to people what they're buying and seems to be working well on Steam right now.

Knowing it probably wont even make June and will be pushed back, I dunno I'm losing my patience. I wouldn't have cared if they didn't announce it last year, just feels like we've been led on for far too long. I'm just gonna cut off all ties at this point from Dayz and maybe I'll still be interested when it eventually comes out.

At this point it better be fucking amazing and have so much changed so that it doesn't just feel like a tweaked Dayz mod or I'll be disappointed.

Highly doubt that it will even be out in June. Just the fact that the past videoblog showed that there was barely anything to be really excited about sort of gives us a clue of what will happen. Rocket will keep on pushing the release date and we will probably have it in late august/september (alpha that is). By then a lot of ppl wouldve lost interest for the game due to it being pushed back all the time. I will still buy it though ^^

I don't think people will have lost interest - the mod showed that there's a huge audience for this type of game, but a lot of people were turned off by the obvious problems, such as hacking, crap glitchy zombies and a lack of 'endgame'.

Personally. I'm disappointed as I thought there would be an Alpha release that those mad keen on DayZ would get to play while features are slowly added and that it would be out sooner rather than later.

The way things are going it's more like the SA will be a finished game at launch - and as I've said elsewhere, my fear is that we're entering a development quagmire that pushes release back further and further until we're talking Christmas. Or later.

Maybye its time for Bohemia to come out and just say it'll be "done when its done" and give us an honest assesment of where they are at now. I'm cool with it releasing whenever, but not so cool with what's becoming a "soontm" situation.

edit - And could we get an answer why the announcement wasn't made through the devblog or on the forums first?

If you expect that then you are just setting yourself up for disappointment, it really needs the basics implemented before an alpha can be released otherwise there would be a shit storm about why there aren't any zombies implemented in a zombie game or why loot only spawns in a couple of places on the map etc. Bugs and lack of content are fine to some degree but it really needs the architecture working properly and some bare essentials that make it a game before even an alpha can be put out there. People complaining it should be released now are going to be the first to complain there is nothing to do if it were released and to be honest I think the devs have done a poor job managing expectations if this is how people feel because it's clear you are expecting too much of the alpha, even if it was released today.

I keep going back and forth between two different things.

A video of Rocket saying, OVER AND OVER AND OVER again in 2012 that 'It'll be out this year.' 'It just has to be.' 'There's not other way'. 'It HAS to be this year'. Just reiterating the same point again and again to an audience.

And then now.

'Oh, hopefully sometime this year'.

Doesn't give a whole lot of faith. I like that he's working on it. I like that he's trying to make it as good as it can be, but the popularity is declining, and it's coming dangerously close to missing the window of opportunity. People have already left the mod in droves.

He should put it on early access on steam. It's almost stupid NOT to.

After the massive hype for a December release and then just NOTHING, people are losing interest. Why be interested in something that they HOPE will be released this year? With every week, the active community will diminish. They're missing their window.

Anyone who complains about the non-release in December and the fact that it's a work in progress has clearly made no effort to understand the process or follow the development of the game.

There's not a "window of opportunity" or bandwagon that they're going to miss.

Honestly, if your interest in the title is waning it'll be no geat loss to the community if you leave.

There are no "problems" to understand. They're building the game.

You can move in to a house while it's still being worked on, but you can't live there before it's built. :P

I like to see the passion the mod has created and even thou its been months since the December deadline, most people will still buy the game. I started the poll to just get a rough idea on how many people have decided that due to the delay what are the fans position on buying it.

Yeah I am not huge reddit fan I think the site is a bit ugly and not particular nice to use, but I shall have a look at the poll on there,

@chabowski yeah I should have said to the changes to from going to simpleish update of mod to full blown mmo style, which was the right move but reading comments ppl say problems so it just was easier to phrase question like that.
