What is DayZ now?

Recommended Posts

Ive been playing DayZ for a while now. When I first started the vast majority of the players were playing DayZ as it was intended to be played. As survivors. Sometimes working alone or in small groups just surviving and assisting others. The bandits and sociopaths were the minority and while a problem the survivors could usually take care of them. Now Ive noticed that site after site is grossly over-populated by bandits and sociopathic players that just get-off by killing other players without any real cause. I do not like the "No PvP" servers because there is something about forcing players to not kill eachother by threatening them with a ban is distasteful to me. I realize its a game. Im not actually physically harmed everytime Im looking at loot in the store and get an entire mag emptied into me by some sociopathic 14 year old. But damn its sad that the game has degenerated into Call of Duty free for all and the entire aspect of survival has been put in the back seat at best. DayZ was not designed to be a combat sim yet thats the way the majority of players are treating it now. Seriously if you want to shoot at other players and engage in combat play Arma.

I'll take a guess that you just got shot. Right?

It doesn't matter what DayZ is now.

What matters is, what it's going to be..........

I see your side of the story, but consider the world after the breakdown of the fabric of society. Initially people would still try and hold true the things that make our world the way it is--but even that will break down. Banditry truly would take over the vast majority of the land until organization took over again.

The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun (in the given scenario) is a good guy with a gun.

Until there is a viable alternative, the bandits will bandit. it's the easiest route.

Seriously if you want to shoot at other players and engage in combat play Arma.

Is that a mod for DayZ?

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

What is DayZ? DayZ is a turtle.

Patient, confident, slow-moving. It crawls, it feeds, it lingers, it moves slowly towards the beach on which it was hatched.

There, it will lay its eggs before going back to its slow and somber business.

The spawn!

See them hatch, see them run! Look at them go!!

Darting towards the surf, eager to swim, to be free!

Hurrah!!

Ugh, I'm not sure what I find more irritating now, the people who only know how to KoS, or the people who get shot and then proceed to come on here and complain about how the game is RUINED FOREVER because some big meanie shot them.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've been shot on sight, partially through taking care with my movements and routes and partially through good communications with players I HAVE bumped into. If you're dying more than once a week or so to other players, you're doing something wrong.

Hello there

I understand OP's point and I too long for the days where coop play was the norm, with small enclaves of bandits to spice things up.

Many people follow the bandit route as it's the simplest and safest way to play and yields great reward in a short timescale.

One cannot say "PvP is how it would be in reality" so that's why it is the norm in game", the amount of PvP is purely down to the games mechanics.

Without a fundamental shift, PvP being the main crux of the game, is here to stay.

To me, it's the blend of GTA style open world with survival elements that's become the most original fps I've ever played. CoD, don't think so. When was the last time in CoD you had to run 7km just to get revenge on the guy who killed you and stole your kit, it was last night for me :P

I think the true charm of DayZ is that it's the game you make it and not the game your told how to play. :)

Yesterday I was on a server where the electro supermarket literally had 8 bodies in it, and I was one of them. I saw this bandit run in the supermarket while I was in the pub window across the street. I saw this other guy shoot the guy in the supermarket; so I gave him a bullet to the brain from my m1191. They were both bandits. Actually, right after that a bandit came into my building throwing flares everywhere and eventually lured zombies into it and broke his legs. I patched him up only to have this G-36C survivor out of nowhere come in and butcher us both. So basically it was a complete free-for-fall gunshow.

I never understand why people complain about being shot on sight in Cherno/Elektro. It's not like it's a big secret that they're full of players that are either freshly spawned and have nothing to lose or players that are simply there to hunt other players.

It's like running down a motorway and complaining that you keep getting hit by cars.

If you go play to an empty server you will find yourself bored in 2 days. Because the survival part of this game es too easy when you know the game. As the server is empty, you will find an unused vehicle and also a choppa quite easy and with this is a matter of hours to get full geared with a 6 vehicles + 10 tents camp. And then what?

I don't like KoS, but I understand why the game has degradated to this. And then is when here comes the people wanting for a harder game (which is a must) but instead asking for annoying stuff because they don't understand the difference between difficulty/challenge and annoyance.

What I find now fun to be playing is to start over on a server with 50/50 almost permanently and set up a nice camp with all my group plus full gear up, getting a MI17, a Huey, BAF and Ural. When we get this, we usually quit the server or start over again. This is what I consider the top game, and trying this on a 50/50 server isn't a 2 days jobs as it would be on an empty one, it takes weeks due to having to be really careful with every step we do in town and constantly finding human resistance. Zombies? like if they weren't here almost 90% of the time. Try this, is quite fun and also challenging. But there's a handicap, you need real friends to play with...

DayZ is a game. I understand this. Im not actually injured when the fourteen year old sociopath shoots me in the back because he gets joy and pleasure from simply killing other players. I am not finacially hurt when I lose gear, weapons, ect, after being killed. In most servers these can be replaced with just a little effort. My point is that DayZ was designed as a survival sim. The zombies represent the disaster. Whether it was a flood, a massive storm, desease, whatever. When I first started playing DayZ the majority of the people were survivors that worked together or atleast not against the other players. Bandits were the minority and while a danger they were a managable threat. Now its been reversed to the extreme. There are few, if any, players that can legitimately call themselves survivors and most servers are populated with players that choose to shoot on sight any other player they see or encounter. Im guessing that I enjoyed the survival and cooperation aspect of the game and prefered not having to worry about being killed by other players as I do now. Others, obviously, the majority of people playing DayZ now are not there to play DayZ. They are there to kill other players because to them that is the goal of the sim. I nknow of two other people that have pretty much quit playing DayZ because to them its not DayZ anymore. Its Call of Duty with zombies. Ive been personally threatened by other players simply because they do not like the fact that I do not see killing other players as fun. If DayZ continues to devolve as it seems it is I will most likely look for another game to waste my time in.

I think all new players basically starts as survivors, then as you get to understand the game and it's mechanics, the surviving aspect becomes obsolete. All that is left to do is mess around with vehicles and hunt other players

It is annoying. Last night I got shot at by two people in cherno(yes I know) with really bad aim. Then shot by a guy who pulled up in his boat. Then insta spawn sniped. Then killed by two people who pulled up in a boat.
