I likes your style. This is no place for shades of grey.

And no place for NPCs.

I like the idea of NPCs how Wasteland did it, like an outpost or a crash or something. I mean a heli crash with soldiers and people going to it to check it out isn't too far fetched, The Walking Dead did it. Even though their entire show is mediocre.

Perpare to get flamed by all of the kiddies that watch and adore it who bought DayZ to act like they're in the series....

I personally like the show, but only the first two seasons were good, unless the shows after the break in Season 3 are better, season 3 sucked...

We have been experimenting with them on our server and tbh they have been pretty fun but the novelty will wear off quickly. Saying that though, the 3 NPC helis that patrol the origins server we use scared the bejesus out of us tonight. They have always just flown over but tonight they opened fire on us. Was pretty intense.

Don't know why, maybe I'm secretly gay. But I'm always rooting for the minor characters (mostly black guys) >.> and they always seemed to get killed off or fucked over. Also I feel they're forcing the story of "Major" characters to much like Rick, Carl, Govenor, Andreas. I get it, Rick's going crazy. He's a tortured soul cause his wife cheated on him and is now dead. Blah blah, shit today is so revolved around Drama even in YouTube. /rant

OT: Timboski, is this the server in your signature? I haven't play DayZ in quite awhile and would actually get on for NPCs.

How? That doesn't make sense. It's such a vague statement. The way I picture NPCs you could be strolling through the forest and run up on a randomly generated base. Or in the dead of the night a heli flies over above, you won't know if it's NPCs or actual players. And they'd kinda be like Zombies so if you hide/are quiet they won't notice you.

I won't reply to the poll since my answer is grey. I think it could be cool. But I think there are already servers with this right? I'm betting they aren't implemented well and are basically a walking source of loot. I think it would be cool if they were somewhat rare and maybe would only spawn in low pop servers. Kind of like cars. Rare to find, only a certain number per server and not always spawned in the same spot. They would have to pose a decent threat or be semi neutral and provide assistance(?). Maybe have one next to a tent in the woods, near a car or high value loot area.

They could be cool but I'm not sure it would work out well. I'm obviously against them being walking loot piles. In keeping with the spirit of the game, shoot them, interact with them or just leave them alone, player's choice.

Honestly, I understand what possibilities NPCs bring and how they could affect the game, but for vanilla dayZ I do not want to see them. It's about how people play together.

I hope tough, that some private servers will include NPCs, just so we can compare how different it feels. But without grey area: NO for npcs in vanilla dayZ

I haven't seen any implementation of NPCs beside Salvation Island in DayZ, but in Arma 2 I love coming up on a crashed heli site or something with NPC's because they're amazing. Not like they're OP but they're somewhat realistic, sure they walk around like soldiers but the way you actually have to somewhat sneak or be killed is a lot of fun and hasn't gotten repetitive.

I'm so calling you slappy from now on.

This'll be the death of our friendship >.<

Guys, leave Slappy alone.

I dislike the idea due to my experiences with "Holy fuck, another person" moments.

For better or worse, everything in DayZ is fueled by contact with, or avoidance of, real, living people.

It's part of the charm which I feel would be lost/cheapened by including NPCs.

Origins is fine for a change. And I'm sure there are other examples of NPC characters working well in-game, but to my mind, it's just not DayZ.

Yeah, I can agree with that. I'm sure DayZ SA will be modded extensively. So there are plenty of things that can be explored as option for your perfect play experience. While maintaining the pure DayZ experience on the public servers. Variety is the spice of life.

I can't even type the amount of "RAWARWRWR" I just felt after seeing that.

And I understand your point of view and agree to an extend, glad you went into detail more than others.

Scripted events with NPCs in limited locations can create interesting events that might bring people together to complete a challenge. Should it be normal? no. Should it happen? Sure. If you make 90 per cent of the map a regular zone, but have some spots which are rumoured to have warlords and gangs or who knows what, then the player can chose to either play the normal way, or dare to take on that limited area. You can have both if you build it the right way. Life should never be an exercise of "all or nothing".

:)
