DayZ Developer Blog 8th March

Depends how well they manage the whole thing. It wouldn't surprise me if it all goes horribly wrong for a day or two though. Having said that BIS underestimated the demand for Arma 3 alpha which gave them some issues but they got on top of it pretty quickly and hopefully learned something from it.

I bet the standalone wont come out till after Arma3.

Has anyone seen what Arma3 looks like? All the standalone looks like is an Arrma3 mod. :o/

Is it just me or is there nothing being added in the standalone that isn't being worked on in Arma3?

A list of things in Arma3 that the dayz team has been going on about like it is unique to their game.

Volumetric clouds. better graphics. more interaction with vehicles and the like. clothing system. The ability to keep items in clothing.

As far as I can tell the only things they are actually working on by them selves is the zombie AI and adding loot spawns under shit.

You can't be serious on this one. Actually the clothing system/inventory in DayZ is totally different and developped from the ground up. Arma 3 inventory system is really basic and not a big change compared to arma 2. DayZ system will feature item degradation, a lot more clothing slots, a crafting system...

Even though it's logical they borrow some stuff from other of their games, you can see in the video a lot of art assets have been developed specifically for DayZ (new wrecks, building interiors, every item/weapon are redesigned in better quality).

Before making big statements like "OMG it will be like an Arma 3 mod!" I suggest you read the devblogs more carefully.

Hello there

It's also quite understandable that any groovy ideas/tech might migrate from one game to the other, I think there will be similarities but the difference between A3 and the SA will be far greater than A2 and the mod.

I think it's fair to say, it's going to be an interesting wee while for all.

Most folks like to think of themselves as patient, but I shudder to think of the job you mods are going to have cleaning up QQ threads on launch day.

Well said, some people are just too ignorant :/

Yes Standalone is taking bits and pieces from other engines like the ArmA engine, but no it's not going to be exactly like an ArmA III DayZ mod.

hello there

No matter what is delivered, the amount of gnashing of teeth and anger due to the fact that the game isnt exactly what some folk "imagined" will keep us busy long after release.

I Lokstradamus have predicted this.

Does anyone know if we will be able to swim under water in SA?

Hello there

I dont truly know but I suspect not as it would be of limited value to the game. I could be wrong though.

Probably not. There's no scuba gear AFAIK and it doesn't work particularly well without scuba gear in ARMA 3, lol.

i think this should be kept on a basic level. What would you expect to do/see under water? i mean regarding a zombie apocalypse..

Swimming under water seems pointless in standalone, unless you want to go fishing for food or something, or maybe underwater bases...

Fishiesss! :D

Roger, we will probably have ingame displays of "major" stuff, like sneezing, vomiting, fainting, fever, coughing...

But for less obvious stuff, we will do something more like space station 13 and provide textual feedback that doesn't necessarily say the exact problem, such as:

Your stomach is rumbling

Or;

You feel light headed

So the SA will be devoid of any form of HUD?

If so, stooooked!

honestly I think swimming underwater should be implemented as well as more ships and boats...having the sea mainly for watching nice sunsets is such a waste of resources...adding loot spawns ( like crashed planes or shipwrecks) , fishing and maybe even scuba diving ( very rare gear) would be a nice addition...

well if things can be ported from ARMA III quite easily to DayZ, then why not

custom gear, server side AI (zombies spawn with the server), custom zombie models, custom zombie animations, custom buildings. it is an stand alone after all and not a new game from scratch. client sided scripting blocked so that will take care of a lot of hackers. lots of goodies imho, just those make the game worthwhile. as long as the minimum fps is acceptable on mid-high end machines.

if they are able to fix the bottleneck the game engine has on the first cpu core that plague arma 2 and 3 for now (which i would guess they did with the serverside stuff) and get decent minimum framerates, then ill be very happy with dayz.

custom gear - who says the Arma3 team isnt making clothing for civilian units?

custom buildings - its just Cernarus, there is no chance the arma3 team isn't working on this popular map?

and the zombie stuff yea i kinda said that

my point is there has not really been any updates showcasing elements that arent in some way in Arma3.

Will the Arma3 mod have an epic crafting system or will we be able to modify our vehicles using items from the world. Didn't think so. It's gonna gave a shit load of bugs though.

I get the impression Urzaden is an optimistic advocate of DayZ.
