The Notorious Can Incident

Bought this over from a discussion going on, well, everywhere.

this is the first sign of this mod heading in the wrong direction.

People keep saying this like:

1. It's an absolute truth rather than an opinion.
   
2. It's the worst thing, ever. Literally pony cancer.
   
3. It is impossible to change.
   

I'm an ultra-realism, ultra RP-er. So of course, some decisions aren't the ones I would make. But the mere fact the mod is going in any direction at all, is a good thing. There are some systemic and communications issues, yes. I'm not surprised in the slightest. I haven't seen a professional company avoid these kinds of issues, let alone a rag-tag group of loosely connected individuals working on a community mod project. Let's not slaughter everyone just because something didn't go quite according to plan and some people think it's going in the wrong direction.

At worst, there is some dialogue missing between parties. I've talked with some of the key players and I'll get out my big stick and make sure that happens.

So, can we please stop clubbing each other to death over this for the moment? There are plenty of other things to club to death, like baby seals for instance.

I don't really see the issue with those cans. There are more ridiculous brand names in rl. I highly doubt that would be a real immersion killer for anyone.

But I'll gladly beat some of those sweet baby seal to death if I can keep the fur.

Can the derpy hooves and zlzy soda be removed and the others stay? Seems to be those two over everything else the reddit community is raging over.

Yes it is my opinion that if the community didn't voice their concerns that yes, this was a slippery slope we were headed down where the next update would remove all vehicles and instead have us all riding on Unicorns(joking). I haven't been logged into dayzmod since August but felt the need to drop my two cents in because I didn't approve. Should people bend over backwards for me? Nope, but all I did was drop in to voice my concerns and hey, tons of others have too and it worked. Bravo consumers, we got what we wanted. No stupid herpy dooves canned muffins crap.

Thanks Rocket, can't wait until the standalone and hope you blood pressure is doing better lol.

How can you have an opinion of something you've never seen in game? Did you know the items in game are seen in your inventory as "Can (Beans)" and so forth, so technically you don't even see the name you're complaining about until you look at the actual description.

What I'm saying is, the community mod team are removing the most controversial changes now and then the communication/systemic changes are going to be addressed. The cans are simply a symptom of the wider issue of communication etc... So fuck the cans, and stop clubbing each other! Let's give those a chance to get something done now that issues been identified.
