It's ok for some mods to be given respect, but most of us don't know any of them and we certainly didn't vote for them. A lot were probably picked by Rocket personally and many others have just shown up more recently. Myself and many others have helped this community just as much as any mods, so why are we not recognised? What about the designer of Dayz commander? If anything there should have been a vote to see who the community thought was the most helpful or dedicated.

But why? I don't understand why people seem to think that they should have more of a say than the devs when it comes to deciding who deserves an honour like this. :S

Depends if they are running a dictatorship or a democracy, I like to think the latter. If it is a community project, why are the community hardly involved at all until it's already been done. Basically the community don't help with the mod at all, they're just a bunch of 'yes men'.

I have no idea what you're on about, but you can't deny there are people more deserving than a moderator that showed up in the last couple of weeks, compared to one who has been around since the beginning. Just taking names of all moderators is unfair to the regular forum members who have put a lot of effort into helping people too.

Also I don't think it is called envy when I'd like to see the same level playing field for everyone here.

without the AS50 in the game then what you will get is a team in a chopper hovering over a city lighting people up cause they know no one can do anything about it. AS50 is the counter to that kind of crap.

Either way, I don't think every tiny detail should have to be okay'd by the community first if the devs would like to add something.

No of course not, but most developers don't second guess themselves and make posts about it. I got the impression Razor was unsure/unhappy because other people didn't like the named goods. I have no issue with it personally, but I suggested a compromise. The fact that he made a post, means he wanted community feedback and if he did want that feedback, why didn't he just ask for community input first. It's quite logical when you think about it.

Just downloaded and played the update and love the changes I've come across so far - especially the quiver!! To the guys who spent all that time creating the food and drink models, thank you! I don't understand the controversy - I thought it was cool and clever and a nice nod to the mods. I mean, you really have to look to read them... and if you're looking that close and complaining about immersion, perhaps it's time to take a break, a pill, a breath and maybe sit down to a warm serving of Herpy Dooves. Mmmm... it's tasty cuz it's fictional... like zombies. And if mod names on food items is triggering some kind of post-traumatic stress due some previoius encounter with a mod online... well, just shoot the food and think of them...

...and then run from the zombies.

I don't think you are understanding it correctly.

The foods/drinks were a tribute to the moderators. They are a group of people who do the same job, monitoring these forums--therefore, they're a group. And so a tribute to them was wanting to be added in. Why must RAZOR and co add in other people, just because they have done something great for the community? It was RAZOR and co's choice to do the moderators because they were a group.

This mod was released for free. These forums are free. The people who support the community since Day 1 earned the right to be a mod. They put their stripes in. What did you do, you whiney, jealous, undeserving little brat? They stood by the project before the bandwagon came through. Are they lucky? Maybe a little. But it has nothing to do with the fact that this mod, regardless of what right you think you have or voice you want to contribute is a privilege to play.

No doubt about this, finally the first valid point you've made, almost at the end of your post. You still used ad hominems though. Again.

Furthermore, if you think that names of in game food have any effect on anything other than your own jealousy, you are delusional. What you fail to realize is that playing this mod is a privilege. I don't care if you bought Arma 2 to play DayZ, you didn't buy DayZ yet so stop your crying.

Jealousy, huh? Nah, maybe it has something to do with the fact that the community is voicing its opinion on a COMMUNITY PROJECT. The best way to go about it? Probably not. But that community still has as much right to give their feedback as you do to give your feedback on how the community responded to these changes. Moreso, maybe!

Finally, it is the developers discretion to put in anything they want, hence they are the developers.

Well sure they can, but the end result is this:

a) Community gives their feedback on said changes

B) Community potentially loses members/players because of said changes.

edit: Also, cut the crap with this "immersion" argument bullsh**. DayZ is played by people from all over the world with different types of food from different places so half these names could have been real food somewhere in Europe and I wouldn't have known the difference. There is some products here in California that you wouldn't have any clue were real or named after moderators if people hadn't said it.

You misunderstand, yet again. Most people that I can see didn't have an issue with in-game items being a nod to the forum moderators, it was the painfully ridiculous names that came about as a result.
