pr3llox 63 Posted February 20, 2013 So what do you think will happened when the standalone releases..Do you think it will reach a player count far over the 1,5 million?

Talibambi 119 Posted February 20, 2013 Well there are almost 1.6m players of a mod. A mod that was never marketed. I figure that once its on STEAM that its going to get 1.6m players over the course of a few dayz.
TacticalN29 89 Posted February 20, 2013 I would imagine at least 90% of people who played the mod would buy it. Then there would be people who just notice it on steam. Plus if they do any marketing. I would venture a guess that it will eventually sell more than the mod.

BwobBwub 660 Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) Well, it will have a steady increase of players over the first few weeks of the release. Rocket doesn't want a massive amount of players starting straight away so he can see how the servers handle. Edited February 20, 2013 by BwobBwub
kalashinkov 34 Posted February 20, 2013 A lot of zombies will be slaughtered .......What do you think will happen ??
BigglesPiP 6 Posted February 20, 2013 I think there's a significant bunch waiting for SA to begin playing at all, I know several that have not played the mod. I think 2 million sales will be soon very quickly.

HERBERT-THETREE 44 Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) If they market it most people who buy it (whom did not play the mod) would likely complain because its "too hard" since most people are so used to other games. i dont know much about marketing so i dont know how they could say that its a harcore game not for your typical modern gamer who obsesses over CoD.Although i do play a lot of PS2 and thats a very arcadish shooter...no shame in being wrong lolEdit: sometimes i swear im dyslexic with all my typos Edited February 20, 2013 by HERBERT-THETREE
thederper121 95 Posted February 20, 2013 What will happen when Standalone gets released?By golly, there'd be so many survivors killing zombies that there will BE no zombies left to kill. And then everyone rebuilds and forgets about whatever happened.

OrLoK 16185 Posted February 20, 2013 Hello thereJudging from rockets recent tweetage it appears he does not want the numbers to snowball straight away. I dont know his exact reasoning and can only guestimate why.Plus I dont know how he can limit them if things go viral. There's a lot of folk watching for this release.RgdsLoK

TheDesigner 1197 Posted February 20, 2013 If they release it on consoles... It'll be famous within a week.
Siberian (DayZ) 527 Posted February 20, 2013 the only way i can see them slowing sales at release is either to simply limit the amount of CDkeys for sale, or simply limit the amount of servers so even if u buy thre game u might not find a server slot to take.neither idea will make people happy.. i can easily see DayZ SA selling every copy thats released on day1. no problem.. my guess is within hours tbh. codave 121 Posted February 20, 2013 Hard to say. From the DevBlog and other info we've been given I know that not everything will be rolled out on day one. Clothing and weapons will continue to be added, and I'm sure other improvements as well. Everyone likes content updates, so I think it will keep players around as long as updates are being rolled out. As far as player numbers, who knows. I know I'll play it, and I know others who are waiting for the SA as well who are no longer playing the mod. As long as its on PC only, player numbers will be limited to an extent. There's always been a gap between PC and console gamers, I don't see that changing. If it eventually gets released on consoles, numbers will go way up for sure. I know they said if the game does well a console version would be the natural progression, and that made sense to me. As far as artificially limiting player numbers during early release, I have no idea how to do that without pissing people off. Once it's out of the box, people are going to want to play it. New features, reduced hacking, better optimization... probably going to have less people rage quitting and keep playing. It will be interesting to see how it all rolls out for sure. Devon206 (DayZ) 77 Posted February 21, 2013 If they release it on consoles... It'll be famous within a week.It better not be released on consoles, too many immature players I think we should keep it as a nice mature PC Community.
s4pphire 45 Posted February 21, 2013 There is no way to tell how successful the standalone will be until it is released; if it sucks, it won't reach numbers close to those of the mod and if it happens to fix the major issues, numbers could skyrocket well beyond those of the mod. Only time will tell.
toxicsludge 406 Posted February 21, 2013 My prediction is this...1. Purchase on steam2. Download, which takes WWWAAAAAYYY longer than it should3. Install4. Shake with anticipation as the game loads. Drool over the title screen. Hit "play"5. Excrete a small amount of urine6. Be greeted with "server full, try again later"7. Repeat step 6 until you fly off in a fit of rage, kicking the shit out of your precious pc, knowing full well you're going to regret it later
root 48 Posted February 21, 2013 I hope they will be ready for 1.5 mil from servers side point of view. Don't wanna do what was suggested above.

weedian 4 Posted February 21, 2013 i think it will reach over 2 or even 3 million players. if the price is right of course. almost everyone who played mod will buy it, and imagine how many people more will hear of it when it is released on steam as standalone. and i know many that didn't want to play because of installation process. it will be great. for now we have mod on steam.
