Initially when I read the OP i was a bit 'meh' but as long as their awareness in buildings is reduced like currently so I am still able to lose them then I dont think it will be that bad.

Heard that.

If the Zombies will be glitchy/jumpy as hell and using teleport to move a-la-dayz, that idea is not exactly going to make SA sales fly... SA is payware so it has to work reasonably well.

It is not that bad to have Z running inside if their behavior is stable enough: they will have to negotiate obstacles, stairs and choke-points anyway.

I keep saying zombies should be walkers, not runners. I see much more fun on this, having to do things counter-watch, yelling on skype "we got 15 seconds before the mall gets all crowded with zombies! look for food asap and GTFO!" and so on. Now someone get spotted by a zombie with the new zombie-helping and awareness and it is like "OMG we have 2 sec bef... DAMN, GOT MY LEG BROKEN AND I'M UNCONSCIOUS!!! DAMN GOT RAPED By 298712987 ZOMBIES!!". No reaction time.

With walkers instead of runners, OP awareness and infinite respawn would have even sense. And a lot MORE zombies to add would be incredible fun, watching how after you shot your makarov, or you're refueling your car, and there's like 200 hundred zombies approaching from everyside of the streets and even from the woods (I would like that to happen :D)

Also this makes loot posible but makes cycling imposible, so as camping. I see much more fun in this.

Walker Zombies is not bad but then you should balance by having players not be able to run forever (like Stalker).

Otherwise you can raid a town with millions of Zombies just with hit-and-run techniques (which is the case now in 1.7.5.1, any Stealth is a waste of time).

I also see anything short of a £2000+ extreme gaming PC being brought to its knees by the 'hundreds of walkers' idea. There's only so much optimisation can do, and while certain games like Dead Rising have managed to work with hundreds of on-screen enemies, they're typically in enclosed/limited areas, not to mention the load that would be put on servers trying to tell 10 different people (rough guess of the maximum number of people likely to be in/around a city like Cherno/Elektro) exactly where several hundred zombies are...

Hardware/technical issues aside, Zombies are already enough of a marginal threat as it is, being able to outrun them easily would make them even more redundant than they are already - even as runners, as long as you don't get caught unawares or stop, you've generally got to screw up pretty badly to get hit by them in a chase. Walkers, even in large crowds, would be almost zero threat unless you were somehow stupid enough to back yourself into a corner, in which case you're probably too stupid to live anyway. :P

we should be able to throw chairs and tables in front of them so they face plant

LMFAO as I just imagined that...that would be hilarious :) The need to make the same sounds as they do now though!

True, but as you said, run in run out already works (in fact, only way you can loot a city now) so no changes on that plus walkers add fun to those not wanting to just run in-out.

Players not be able to run forever is a must actually, but not as many people seems to want it. Be able to run 5 min and then walk is silly. But being able to run more than 1 minut when you're injured, lower on blood, extremely thirsty or hungry or infected... well, it is also silly. So the time you can keep running would depend on your character conditions. Lower in blood, with blurr vision and unconscious half of the time, forget sprinting, even running, you can only walk and limp a little faster, nothing else. However, in perfect conditions running for two hours is possible. Not for most of the people ofc, those who spent their lives between the bed and the couch/office chair cant do that. But hey, in an a zombie apocalyptic world, those are already dead. Remember Zombileand 1st rule of surviving? cardio.

The 'endless run' thing is actually one of the most un-realistic (if not the most one) aspect of dayz. It is amazing how so many people claiming that "dayz is hardcore simulation, serious stuff" do not understand that... Well I guess they believe in RL one can run by pressing the equivalent of W/shift shift.

With an Alice backpack full of cans, meat, ammo, tools, extra weapon inside AND a sidearm AND a long rifle in your hands, plus ammo and NVG and binos etc people should have additional 40 Kg or more, meaning that even Bolt could not run uphill for more than a few hundred meters. An average Joe Doe would start painting much earlier!

Bolt doesn't have dozens of slavering zombies chasing his ass - I'm pretty sure I could run a lot harder and faster than I do now if that was the case.

Also - logic: The zombies would get tired too.

You guys better learn how to sneak quickly, you'll be eaten otherwise.

Also, I think you should be able to run forever, the fatigue just needs to be improved. When you have ran for a few hundred meters (Some gear on), you get slow enough that the zombies can reach and attack you.

I think they will have different kinds of zombies. Walkers, crawlers, runners ect... The impression I got from rockets twitter post, was that they will be different kinds of zombies. The simple fact that he said "the zombies that can run inside are pretty scary". This alone says that not all will be running. Well at least that's what I think.

The problem you have there is that people run long distances for two reasons - to shake off a zombie or to get somewhere when they don't have transport. Even now, walking from one town to the next can take at least ten minutes, often up to fifteen. If you start slowing people down after a couple of hundred meters, that travel time is going to go up even further, and DayZ will become a hiking simulator with occasional zombie outbreaks.

Aren't the reason they walk indoors due to soldier AI not being able to run indoors?

I said slightly more, so the zombies can catch up to you.. Not like you should literally fall on your knees after running that long.
