Fraps, will it get me banned.

I like taking video and screenshots but am hesitant to run Fraps because of all the ban threads here and I am new to PC games for the most part, will running Fraps get me a ban?

YOU CANNOT BE BANNED FOR USING FRAPS. I've been using it since last July and so do the many other players I play with. In thousands of hours of play between us none of us have never been banned. Ever.

The ban threads are just the tears of people caught hacking or players that got their keys stolen by not following basic internet security.

Np. Many people recomend using Afterburner instead of Fraps (it's free too) but I didn't notice any difference TBH. Both of them drop my framerate slightly.

Afterburner is a GPU tool, it just displays stuff like fps/ GPU load/ temperature/ memory load etc. It is not a recording tool.

The full version of fraps won't limit your recording however it will still split your clips into 4gb files.

I'd recommend dxtory if you are going to pay for something (with the lagarith lossless codec) unless you have a beast PC the FPS hit from fraps is going to hurt. You can try the free version of dxtory to see what it's like but it will have a massive watermark over the clip.

Afterburner beta (with rtv1 compression) is probably one of the best free options available.

While that's normally correct, I can't go without saying that there are exceptions. I met a guy who was falsely banned a few weeks ago.

EDIT: Not for fraps, though. It was just an accidental random ban that got rolled back.

Recording programs run locally and independent of the game- not changing or interfering with it in any way, there is no way a server could deduce you are using fraps, let alone ban you for using it.

The rumor started because a few guys getting globally hacked, claimed they were only using Fraps, however hard pressed they always changed their story to their friend/brother/cat downloaded hacks on their account.

I've been using fraps in combination with not hacking since I started playing in may without any trouble yet.
