Chill out Jesus. There is no need to be upset.

The point I was trying to make is that Rocket has a very strong vision for the game he wants to create.

Not designing a game by committee is very different to not listening to the communities opinions and feedback. Rocket and the Dev team are famous for listening to the players opinions on the project and are well known for asking for feedback. However, that is very different to designing a game around the opinions of the majority or those who shout the loudest, with that approach we'll just end up with a watered down version of what promised to be an exciting game.

Anyhoo, lets move on shall we.

Why? Discussions are fun! :) Arguing is not however. Just keep it civil. ;)

I would like to further state a reason why I prefer first person. Think about Amnesia and how scary that was. If you had the option to go into third person in that game would it be even half as scary? The tension when you have to actually peek around a corner to see or putting yourself at risk when snooping around is great and third person takes a lot away from that.

And I sure hope DayZ will be a harsh, scary and unforgivin game, just not a subpar squad based tactical shooter with moaning pale guys running around as an annoyance. :)

I'm sorry you read what i posted and thought i was "upset".I'm glad you made your point clearer.

Rocket is the most awesome & transparent Dev I've ever seen,he listens to his community and I'm sure all of the other devs working on this do as well.I'm sure whatever he decides in the end will be great.

Will you be mad at Rocket if he removes 3rd person view?

Seriously though. If Rocket plainly said "DayZ is supposed to be in 1st person only", I'd be slightly peeved, but I'd totally accept it.

It'd be interesting to know just how flexible (or inflexible) other people would be on the matter.

Same here, Ive played both in 1st and 3rd person, and at the condition controls are made smoother and more natural, I wouldn't mind if 3rd person was totally disabled.

I'll use 3rd person as long as I am able to, because of how you can spot enemies so far away with it, even if you could say it's cheating, in my case it's cool because I avoid most firefights and wouldn't use it to grief or kill other players. However it's totally frightening to know how easily a bandit can spot you and kill you without any chance to spot him.

I'd say, scratch the third-person view. Third person, does not make any sense at all in these type of games. It's silly. Since it's somewhat a simulation of a real zombie-apocalypse.

Without It, the game would be even more realistic and harder, which is a good thing, because you would have to be on your guard all the time.

:)

And yes, I think third-person view in these kind of games are cheating. Because you have a huge advantage compared to those who plays in first-person.

Being able to choose between the two, forces you to use third-person, simply because you have a better overview with it.

Well then...

There's no need for discussion to get so heated all the time.

Everyone has their preferences, and reasons for them. It's just that differing opinions invariably lead to argument around here.

Standalone needs to make some clear-cut definitions regarding what DayZ is.

I'd be perfectly happy if every server was to have the same settings (yes, even 3dp:off) if it would mean we were playing the game as it's intended.

Agreed. If it was one or the other, I'd have to say lock it to 1st person as 3rd person does give an awareness advantage...but then again, 1st person allows you to move your head and increase FoV...

Ideally the choice of both, determined by the server would be best.

The only issue with 3rd person is that it allows you to see around corners, or over walls etc.

It's completely a PvP issue, but for those of us that don't shoot on sight and aren't bandits, it's not so much of an issue. I guess it would let us avoid being spotted by people that do kill on sight and are bandits...if you could argue that that was an unfair advantage, given that we are already at an extreme disadvantage from a survival point of view...

So yeah, probably best to have the option for both and leave it up to the server admins. There are quite distinct, different play styles that both 3rd and 1st person cater to I guess. It isn't entirely clear cut.

I definitely want 3rd person in Standalone so I can see myself wearing my cool new blue hoodie.

...and my pink heart undies

I remember a time when rocket made changes. Sometimes these changes were bad, what did he do? Changed them. He did it on what worked and what did not, I remember he even removed the bandit skin, but that came back.

You have to realise the game will change over time and will go through a teething phase. 1st or 3rd does not matter, we will get our chances when it is out.

In the mean time, if negative comments need to be made go in the DayZ chat room, It's empty!

that's only because the zombies are an after-thought though. if they were more of a threat, people would be abusing 3rd person to spot them too. it's hard to get away from the fact that it's just completely unrealistic to be able to look over and around walls. I think it comes down to the question of what the positives of 3rd person really are. I really can't think of any that aren't basically an exploit

and these topics always get to the obtuse point where people act like there's something out of the ordinary about a game being locked down to 1st person

The only positive '3rd person' brings is purely cosmetic. I personally just like looking at my character, lol. However, I do agree that 1st person should be the view used.

Its a simple choice:

Either improve 1st person (FOV, Motion Blur etc.) or have 2 kinds of servers (3rd person enabled or disabled).

I think people are not coming round to your idea of removing 3rd person because 1st person atm is bad. (I dont like having an field of view limited to something close to wairing a medieval helmet)

It was awesome to see an FOV slider in the settings of the vid though... :P

Every single time there is a 1st vs 3rd person discussion I see this argument against 1st person... I'll say it once more; you can turn off motion blur in your video settings, turn up your FOV as high as you want in the config files and if the head bobbing is bothering you you can turn that off as well.

1st person as it stands is perfectly well thought out. If you have played any other FPS in the past you should have no problem with 1st person view in ArmA/DayZ(Hell, it's better in ArmA than anywhere else, you can turn your head freely from your body, damn it!). I don't see anyone asking for 3rd person view in Battlefield or Call of Duty.

If I had a three-screen, then I'd have nothing against 1st person :D

What happens if I want my sights to work propper?

It needs an FOV slider badly. This is why I mainly play in 3rd.

As for the rest I have done them all m8 :P

EDIT: Anyway 1st person seems to me very jittery even with head bob off. At first I kept getting tangled in objects and picking up items is a pain.

Thats what initially turned me off in 1st and i have not warmed to it since.
