ActionManZlt 160 Posted February 12, 2013 Head bob is a ridiculous concept to begin with; our spines are flexible, our heads independent from the rest of our bodies. What vision-centric animal can you think of that loses visual acuity while running? None. Animals like rhinos can't see shit anyhow, but you'd better believe that any predators that got all fucking blurry when they ran were edged out eons ago. How would you persue prey if this were the case? Does your vision shake and blur when you run? Mine doesn't.[edit] Just sprinted down the hall; no perceptible head bob, certainly no blurring. Either my head is bobbing so little that it's irellevant, or my brain has developed to filter out the motion. The bold bit is the truth. Experiments have been done when people use head-mounted cameras to record their view while running, and then they later watch that footage while sitting still. While they're out running, they can't perceive very much "head bob" at all, but later when watching the footage, there is so much "head bob" that many people experience motion sickness while watching the footage. This is because your brain uses the synchronized inputs from your vestibular organ to cancel out the shaking that's present in the "footage" from your eyes, and you don't perceive it.Anyway, Arma is nice enough to make it an option. Personally, I leave it on extremely low (but not zero).

twinturbonet (DayZ) 294 Posted February 12, 2013 How long has closed beta been going on? Shouldn't we have some kind of videos from the users in beta testing by now?
Bat (DayZ) 230 Posted February 12, 2013 How long has closed beta been going on? Shouldn't we have some kind of videos from the users in beta testing by now? It's only internal closed testing right now. Which means only developers have access to it.

SmashT 10907 Posted February 12, 2013 (edited) Couple of tweets/Reddit posts from todayJirka is working on Zombie AI pathfinding. I'm working on loot spawn mechanics. Also we have new skeleton + anims developing 4 better animsDayZ development lesson for the day: Zombies that can run inside are VERY scary #newpantsrequiredVirtually everything that existed in ArmA2 is being reworked. A quick summary of what is being done right now:New Skeleton and animations. Completely done again from scratch. The previous rig was a decade old. All these animations are to be motion captured from scratch again. This is a long term project, but the first results will be seen with zombies relatively soon. This is a big deal. Any animators out there will no just how much of a change this will make.New Zombie AI. As noted this is being worked on at the moment. First step has been getting zombies to run inside, which looks greatEntirely new weapons. Every weapon and item in standalone is being redone. The new AK is the first weapon and it looks amazing. It also features a number of attachments.Nothing is just copied over from the mod. I can't think of a single asset that has not been reworked and redeveloped so far, everything is being made better, more optimized, or something like that. soapmak3r 677 Posted February 12, 2013 (edited) Ah...Make love, not warcraft...That episode saved me from ever trying WoW as I learnt everything I needed to know about it from Southpark. Also, all of these changes sound great, but they also make the standalone seem very far off in the distance... z3n 12 Posted February 12, 2013 I don't think I understand where you pulled that estimate from?Well if you listen to what Rocket actualy says in the video and put it together with what he said before with closed beta for chosen ppl like streamers. From what I understand its even far from done for the closed beta testers.
z3n 12 Posted February 12, 2013 There seems to be a lot of pulling "Facts" from deep, dark, smelly places recently.Amen, brother.i heard the fæces mist model alone needs at least a month more worth of work. Where did you get the 6 month figure from?Feel free to point it out, without getting too graphic of course.
MrManKo91 3 Posted February 12, 2013 To be honest i think only developers know when the game its coming out. However in the development blog, in November 2012 they were still talking about a release in December 2012...if they end releasing the game in June 2013, it would be a big delay, although it wouldnt be the first time that this happends anyway with a game. osallivan 74 Posted February 12, 2013 (edited) They have enough Devs dude. It is known. Of course not as much as other titles do, but they have enough. I don't think that Rocket works as much on Dayz SA as he used to work on the mod. Rocket actually is more of a PR guy as you said. His job is now more about telling the gaming community about the game other than developing it. He goes to conferences, meetings, he writes the blogs, he is on the forums here, so yeah. He just keeps the team organized and puts them on the right track of the development. Yes, he does contribute to the development process, but I don't think that it is his main job.You guys clearly misunderstood my point. I never said that Rocket works LESS on DayZ SA as a project overall. What I meant is that I am pretty sure he works less on the game's code (as a programmer) than he used to when it was a mod that was developed by him only. Right now, he DOES HAVE a team of people that work together on the game. They are artists, programmers, world designers, AI programmers, and etc. YES, they do have this team and I've seen how many dev names Rocket mentioned in his blogs. It is his team and he is in the control of it. So don't say stuff like:Yeah, you would think that after a massive success like DayZ mod has had Bohemia should shover Rocket with a huge dev team and hookers. It is in Bohemia's interests to help him with the development process.Rocket is PRing the game. It is his job. No doubt. The programing is left for the programmers. If you still think that Rocket works on the game with 2 other dudes in a room with 2 computers, then you are wrong. Very.It does not come from my mind and my personal opinions. As I said earlier, I am a game development student. It is a part of what I do in my own team. Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted February 12, 2013 (edited) I bet you guys believed in a release in december 2012Hmm, that was before they completely changed their approach from releasing a souped up mod to sarting from the ground up (which was clearly stated just after Xmas by Rocket). Please try and keep up. Edited February 12, 2013 by Fraggle
