What are your reasons for choosing a Private Hive?

What do you look for when choosing a Private Hive?

  1. 1. What do you look for when choosing a Private Hive? Select any that apply to you!

    • Alternative maps (Namalsk, Taviana, Panthera, Lingor, etc.)
      15
    • Custom loot tables (weapons not found in vanilla DayZ)
      19
    • Alternative items upon spawn. (pistol, NVG's, food & beverages, etc.)
      8
    • 24/7 daylight (night is too dark and too difficult without NVG's)
      7
    • Modified Chernarus (additional buildings placed to increase loot possibilities)
      10
    • Active admins (hackers/scripters caught and banned... a secure server)
      35
    • Whitelisting (a more secure server to eliminate the potential for hackers/scripters/cheater, etc.)
      32
    • Additional vehicle availability (more cars, planes and helicopters)
      17
    • Base building (custom bases to create your own defendable camp)
      9
    • A separate DayZ community (alternative forums, stats tracking, etc.)
      8
    • Increased zombie activity (zeds are too easy in vanilla)
      6
    • Hardcore mode (increased view distance, 1st person only, no waypoints etc.)
      7
    • Teamspeak (a TS server provided by the Private Hive for their players to use)
      12
    • New player skins (vanilla skins have gotten boring and you want a new look)
      7
    • Other (please elaborate in the thread)

Hello,

This is a poll to get a glimpse at the reasoning behind those of us that play on private hives. What made you decide to try them, and what did you look for when choosing the one(s) that you did? If you don't see something that was a motivating factor for you, please post in the thread to elaborate on it.

Thanks!

whitelisting, less cheats, more maps and custom vehicles/weapons.

Pretty simple for me. If you find a good one you can kiss goodbye to hackers and concentrate on enjoying the game :)

I personally don't like too many customisations and I'm not a big fan of the different maps either. I think I'm just getting old and grumpy though.

I agree with everything said including that you are indeed getting older and grumpy!

I look for anything that acts as a barrier to keep the script kiddies at bay. Active admins and whitelisting does a good job of that. Additional maps or DayZ mod mods are a bonus.

Because I got fed up of being shot at by someone who would change server to change position relog and nail me from somewhere else. That and the way people kill people and just take there kit and go to another server...

Ahh ghosting, and server hopping. I should've added those. Thanks!

Active admins and a variety of maps. Not a huge fan of whitelisting (my month old Balota Buddies application is proof of this, tried a few times to go into teamspeak but I have bad timing apparently) but I do understand why many private communities use this tool. I can take or leave the starting gear, finding decent stuff is really not that hard after you get the hang of the game but I do enjoy easy access to vehicles.

I am starting to rethink my aversion to whitelisting though, the private servers I have been frequenting lately (anzuswargames) have become very popular and with those full server lists the hackers have been getting a little more prevalent. They are very quick to drop the banhammer and even have extra detection but another layer of protection could be effective but would also drop server population so a double edged sword.

Edit: Nice to see Derpy Hooves, been awhile since I saw a post from him and was starting to worry.

Edit: Whitelisted last night and had a blast. Not that hard of a process, I am just lazy but it was quick and painless.

Bump for a few more folks to participate in the poll, it only takes a couple of seconds guys!

Bump up from page 3, surely more than 33 of you can take 2.5 minutes to participate in the poll!?!

Any private hive admin can make use of the results as a snippet of what the community as a whole is looking for in a private hive experience; but with only 33 respondents, statistical significance is miles away.

Went with white listing and active admins. Easily the most important thing in playing dayZ now.

Public servers are riddled with hackers because most of the time the servers HAVE NO ACTIVE ADMINS.

Whitelisting and TS for me. Whitelisting becausr, well...it just makes a much more secure environment and TS because it creates a community of sorts. Without TS I might have never met these cool cats I play with!

Hello there

I'm an odd one.

My reasons for going private are solely down to hackers.

But I almost exclusively play on pub servers.

My head hurts.

I like the whitelist and active admins for the security of the server.

I like the teamspeak and the separate forums for that sense of community (even though I'm still trying to be more a part of it).

And I like the custom loot tables just because.

I like to set up a tent or 2 and have a vehicle somewhere, something I have only been able to do on whitelisted private hives dues to the massive flow of players on public servers and the amount of scripting going on.

Whitelist, Great Community, and ability to edit things such as the map and server scripts to some extent. I love playing in a place where you can make a name for yourself and be well known

Main reason for us moving to private hive it gave us control over OUR server. We were able to undo most of the community updates that we don't agree with and add back any removed items that we believe should not have been removed in the first place.

We can now also deal with script kiddies effectivley.
