Public character finally died, day 164.

Recommended Posts

So, my public character was finally killed on day 164, 818 zombie kills, 1 bandit kill and no murders, i was killed by a hacker that teleported everyone on the server.

Did i play all of those days ? of course not, many people play on private hives now and we have two of our own servers, i guess the point is that you can survive pretty much anything in dayz except the hackers, i really hope this situation changes in the standalone.

Thats all.

As you said man and I back it up a 100%, man: hope this will change in the SA. A almost 200-days character to be wasted by a fucking lifeless mooron ... I'm surprised you're not internet-raging; I'd be suicidal (this happened to me once: 1st time on public server I had nice gear and Heli).

Even with Standalone, you should always expect to lose your character at some point. In a game like this, that's almost inevitable. I think once standalone comes out, characters alive for that long will be rather rare, since there will be alot more things to worry about. Better zombies, infections, diseases, hiding like a hermit in the woods won't keep you as safe lol

It should be more stable though, using VAC to catch hackers more, but there is still the chance of there being hackers, that is simply a common element of online gaming.

Ever considered that what you saw was actually a suicide? Anyone who has survived for 164 days hiding in forests without finding a way to safety would probably go insane and start eating their own feces... Hell, I drink my own piss for breakfast just to stay in practice.

So please explain - what did you do to survive for so long? What equipment did you have?

- I am interested in that "1 bandit kill"-story.

- be more informative: which server exactly, when?

I guess I should.

It got to the point where I had not played this character for so long I forgot what gear I even had, as mentioned, we have 2 servers now and most people play private hives, when I logged into a public hive yesterday I found the following gear-

Ghillie suit, NVG's, rangefinder, M9 Sd, M4 Sd with 7 mags, M14 in the Alice pack and pretty much everything you could want, but the gear is not the key to survival, it just helps.

The silenced m4 was used mostly to kill zombies until I ran out of ammo, then I would get more from either the airfield barracks or chopper crashes, so no, I didn't just camp in forests, but remember, you can get just about everything from just a deer stand including dmr's and m14's, food and drink.

Remember, every shot fired has a risk.

The one bandit kill-

I was bored and found an m107 at a chopper crash up north, so I ran down to balota and waited at an elevated position near the airfield hoping to snipe some random guy, it happened to be a bandit with an akm trying to kill everything in sight, the zombies helped me kill him, it would be 3-400 meters out, easy kill.

I do not remember any other interesting story's about this character, all I can do is offer some insight to how I play in order to survive.

Get off the coast, get basic stuff, food and drink and get the hell away up north, as mentioned, the deer stands can give you everything you need, check every one you see.

Use peripheral dots and 3rd person, something I never did until recently but it's a huge advantage which everyone has, why not use it, I did not because of ignorance and purity.

Assess The risk, every action you take may determine whether you live or die, is it worth it ?

PVP, again think about it, do not take the shot unless 100 % sure you can make the kill without consequence, other then your humanity that is.

I don't know what else to say really, the character has no amazing story's to tell other than it survived for so long, played on and off.

My public hive character is 120 odd days old, I never in all my time playing managed to find rangefinders, NVG'S or GPS. I found all three last week.

Only a matter of time before I am shot down. It will be a sad day.

Lifeless morons going to release a new survival hack for sure, I suggest that do not stick to your gear too much :(

I wouldn't be bothered too much if I lost my gear.

Apart from my L85. That thing is my most prized possession.

Doesn't it get boring for you to live for that many days? Doing your daily routine then doing who knows what? I'm just curious as I've never played DayZ before.

I don't know how you guys do it. After two weeks of just "surviving," I lose the interest in playing because I have nothing to do but wander through forest. I end up having to force myself to get on and have some fun. For example, when I was a young bambi. I found an M4A1 CCO with 7 STANAG mag and a fully loaded G17. I ended up getting raped by zombies and was surviving with less than 4000 blood. I just hid in a deer stand, would log on for 5 minutes to check the gear in the deer stand and to attempt to find a friendly to blood bag me. Eventually, I got bored of this crap and just ran off with that blood and had some fun. I ended up surviving about 3 hrs, but I had a ton of fun.

Rangfinder and gps are the hardest to find, i don't remember if i got them from tents, dead bodys or they actually spawned for me.

Not if thats your goal, you are always at risk regardless of how many people are playing at one time, someone may spawn in right behind you, or someone could be watching your movements down a sniper scope, you have to be aware of the surroundings all of the time, try to think tactically, do not run straight from point A-B but instead use the landscape,.

Because you do have to think about these things is partly what makes dayz so good, a lot of other games seem childish now and a have a hard time even thinking about playing anything else.

Very good job! I managed to keep myself alive for almost that exact amount of days.

I've never bothered about any sort of vehicles, except for a bicycle I had for a week, but I tend to lose those things.

I always made my way through the woods to the next patient. I've had everything on me, no tent, went hunting if I needed something. I didn't feel bothered about going to town, only if I had to restock on medical supplies, but for that reason I always went on a night server to avoid the Z's.

To be honest: I feel a bit reliefed, now that I've lost my character to a scriptkiddie, as I don't need to bother about too much security for myself.

Oh - and I died to a scriptkiddie trying to fix up a Little Bird with another medic. Should've stayed in the forests without a vehicle ;-)

+1 for the Blade Runner quote.

The only thing I've learnt with DayZ is never get attached to anything: You never know if someone will find your camp, that clever place you thought your helo was safe or that when you log on a hacker will turn off your engine and then bomb you with physical airplanes when you eject (happened last night), it is a shame sometimes though.

The real question is; does it matter how old or young the character is?

If I die, my friend loots my corpse, or he comes to pick me up with a car or something so I can get back and loot.

So even if I die, most of the time I will be getting exactly the same equipment back again within relatively short time.

Does it matter then whether my character is 3 hours old or 200 days old?

Seems the character age is completely irrelevant.

It's made even more irrelevant by the fact that your character still "ages" if you are offline. So if I create a character on a private hive, then I leave it there while I play another character on a different official hive or private hive for 8 months... then I log back on the first character again and voila... I've survived 240 days without leaving the beach, equipped with only a box of painkillers, a flashlight and a bandage.

Character age = pointless.

Playing on day 1. Being 163 days offline. Logging in again at day 164 ... now you have your 164 day chrackter. You dont have to play 164 days...
