My Day Z experience, I'm completely done with this game now

Recommended Posts

I know people will flame me because I'm complaining, whatever, maybe expressing this will somehow improve the game, I can only hope so because Day Z is the kind of game I really really want to force myself to like but every time I play it I end up banging my head against my keyboard saying WHY WHY WHY.

I'm a 35 year old man who grew up with computers and Nintendo so I still play games, I own a web design company so whatever insult me all you want to I'll game until I die. I started playing Day Z because I like playing games between work when I'm building a website. Hell at first I liked the game so much I dropped $300 on GT 660 TI because I thought the reason my framerate was so bad was because of my 550 TI, read up and found out that it was my CPU, Intel Q9300 ain't enough to run the Arma 2 engine.

I get my new card and dive into this game. I didn't read many guides because I felt the best way to enjoy the game is to learn it from experience. I learned a few things right away, even though this game is all about survival and has the hash perm death penalty, you will get killed by hackers constantly. The Arma 2 engine must be one of the worst engines for security that the computer industry has ever seen. I have never seen a game hacked so much in my life, but you've probably heard that already and don't want to hear it. So trying to force myself to play it I start researching how to find a server that has no hackers, I try the BMRF (Billy mays relief foundation) that requires a whitelist to play on. My 2nd day on the server after for the first time I find a nice gun I find someones tent in the middle of the woods. As soon as I start looting it someone teleports to me (I think I don't know that much about it) and shoots me one time in the head while i'm hiding under a tree and kills me. I quit the server and don't come back, obviously the only thing a whit elist means on the BMRF server is that hackers are more careful and not obvious.

I then find this server called gamers-dream.com and think hey it's a private hive with a white list, I'll give it one more shot. I play on this server for a total of 6 hours, FINALLY find my first car and am so thrilled. Hide it in the woods and go to sleep, wake up today and am thrilled that it's still there. I never knew they stayed like that but I figured I'd try it just in case. Get ready to head out and a hacker joins the server even though it's a private hive with a whitelist, teleports everyone to the center of the map. I instantly turn my computer off in hopes that I disconnect before I die from the hacker. I go onto the gamer-dream forums and report that there is a hacker on the server, they say it's safe to go back on so I sign back in. Now I venture to a town and start looking for a gascan because I need to fuel up the car. I start shooting zombies and one of the admins starts trying to shoot me with a sniper rifle. He missed once so I run to where the sound came from while kind of zig zagging to make myself harder to hit, he then shoots again and misses, and I see him laying on the ground in a camo suite (Guile I think? or something like that ). I walk right up and shotgun him in the face and kill him in one hit.

What happens after I get my FIRST player kill in day z? Yes my first kill after working for it for weeks? I get banned from the server because the crybaby admin says something about godmode which I've never heard of and bans me. All my weapons I found, my first car, all gone. I never got to loot the corpse of the first person i killed because it happened to be a crybaby admin who couldn't handle getting shot gunned in the face.

I have now uninstalled Amra2 and I don't know if I'll be spending my time with the standalone. My experience with this mod has been the worst gaming experience of my lifetime, and that says a lot because I've played online since Quake1. You get killed by hackers and then when you finally land your first kill and you are excited about it, you get banned because an admin can't handle the fact that you killed them?

I'm not complaining about the developer, I can't remember his name but I remember Rocket hehehe, I think he did an amazing job on the mod, I just think it's built on the worst engine in the history of video games and that completely ruins the game.

My suggestions if anyone cares for the standalone would be improving the efficiency of the engine, a Gt 660 TI should not be getting 15 frames a second. I'd also advise if you're going to make it perm death please for the love of God stop the hackers. They in their own way cost this game another player, the admin even though he's a crybaby on the server probably would not of have thought I was hacking if there weren't so many hackers destroying the day every second of the day.

On the other hand, thank you who ever made this, it tried to force myself to like this game because it's just the PERFECT zombie survival game, but the hackers and the terrible admins have just ruined it for me. I wish you the best of luck with the Stand alone and even though I can't stand the game because of how I've been treated in it, I will still try to recommend it to other people....

Edit: Oh and the Arma II engine is awesome, if only the zombies wouldn't walk through things it would be the perfect engine.

That sounds like you had the worst possible experience and accidentally picked a shit private server.

I have joined a whitelist server and have had no problems with hackers in the past month or so. Not one Hacker encounter so it may come down to luck of finding a good white listed server. It also has great admins and have never had a problem with any of them, so they are out there maybe you just didn't look for long enough?

For everything else I'd probably just say your answer is the Standalone. There will be numerous improvements including performance, although they say the improvements may be nullified by adding extra features and what not.

Thank you for the people that gave me honest answers, as for Creep, Macbre, and Josshill do the world a favor and go take a bullet. Constructive criticism is what helps improve a game, 12 year old trolls that are up past their bed time that are probably hacking are what ruins the game. Idiots.

ok dude i understand your mad and i would be to. The hacking needs to stop i dont understand why they would ruin such an awesome game like this. ive seen people play this and how it works i even watched IGN to see if it was any good. i dont yet own it cause of the computer i have but ive played it. its pretty awesome! What kind of computer would i need to play this game lag and freeze free even though i choose a game with a low ping?

I did some research on it and I believe you'd need at least an I5 to play this decently, and probably a 550 TI at least but I'm no professional, not sure about amd and radeon. The standalone is supposed to be less resource intensive but it does still use the amra engine.

That does sound pretty crappy however, it seems that this is a perfect example of what the new mmo server style should be addressing with the standalone. (And whatever else the devs have up their sleeves)

I have had some bad experiences myself - never with admins mostly hackers. However, when something like this used to happen I would get pretty frustrated. These days I just log off and do something else - I still love the mod and I think that the frustration of the mod in its current state is something I keep coming back for...hackers and all.

Not to say that I feel that hackers and whiney admins are warrented..don't really know what I am trying to say...I guess sorry bro?

ANYWAYS in the spirit of being optimistic - I was thinking of joining a whitelist server myself. Thanks for the heads up on this one ;)

I'm not complaining about the developer, I can't remember his name but I remember Rocket hehehe, I think he did an amazing job on the mod, I just think it's built on the worst engine in the history of video games and that completely ruins the game. That's Dean 'Rocket' Hall. Nobody should blame you for not remembering his name, as everybody here mainly refer to him as Rocket. And, ARMA 2 engine isn't the worst engine by any stretch, it just uses a lot of code that is completely unnecessary and it pretty badly optimized.

My suggestions if anyone cares for the standalone would be improving the efficiency of the engine, a Gt 660 TI should not be getting 15 frames a second. Well then maybe you should research about the standalone, even as little as going to the Tumblr page for it? Rocket has some fairly lengthy posts about the engine and everything else in terms of improvement. He also lists many things that he knows are bad in the engine for the DayZ mod and why many of the problems we experience, exist. I'd also advise if you're going to make it perm death please for the love of God stop the hackers. This, for example, is one of the bad sides of the ARMA 2 engine. Do you know what basis the ARMA 2 engine was created? To make it as easily moddable as possible. So people could use simple scripts to create mods and events, create UI features and so on. The thing is, that even with the BattleEye ait-cheat system, the engine itself is simply far too open for it to effectively stop hackers. There are so many large loopholes we can use to inject scripts into the server, ourselves, and even other people. The hacking problem WILL be mostly fixed in the standalone due to the fact that the engine will not be moddable, nor open. There won't be scripts to exploit with the engine, and VAC is going to keep the game secure from third-party hack programs. There will always be hackers, and you should know that by now, if you've been playing as long as you say you have.

You should keep an eye out for the Standalone, though, and possibly reconsider your opinion on that. The problems you had in the mod are mainly because the engine and the terrible, hacker-paranoid community. I'm not saying that you should get it as soon as it comes out, or even a month later. Because it's not going to be finished anyway when it's released on Steam. But keep observing the scene. It might change your mind.

Redness for justice.

Redness for justice.

I'll take your word for it, I want to like this game but I was so pissed off after what happened. I'll try the stand alone when it comes out, there have been several members here that have messaged me with servers that are better so i'm going to try them, i'm glad some people are helpful other than 12 year old kids like macbre that just try to fight everyone on the forums.

I understand your frustrations but i just think you were extremely unlucky to find a server with Admins like that. There are plenty of great servers out there (Balota Buddies springs to mind) that have great admins and free from hackers.

Arma 2 is a trusting game and was never meant to be used as DayZ is. The Standalone will be locked down which hopefully means less hackers, though of course we will never be purged of this slime.

And to all of you on this thread who are just flaming and trolling, please cut it out. I really don't want to have to individually warn you guys.

I really have no reason to report you.

Well, I'm bored of the same rant about the same thing showing up 20 times a week.

I'm sorry if you're sick about the same rant, this is the first time I posted about the hacking. I'm sure nobody has ranted about getting banned for hacking the first time they killed someone.

Thank you, I heard that name somewhere, barlota, I'm going to try that. I had some helpful members here actually PM me with some server Ips to try too, it seems that Day z has a good community for the most part and that's a very important thing!

I'll clean this up

Cleaning-up-the-flood-in-basement.jpg

Okay F0L, You have experienced what a-lot of us go through in the mod, it's a shame yes i understand how this game in essence is the best zombie survival ever made, but needs to be fixed

i wish i could explain to you how innovative and fantastic the standalone will be: let me give you just 2 things in standalone.. No hacking like that ever. and fully enter-able buildings...that alone should bring you back buddy

should ease you back to playing when it's released..hope it helps :)

Also see you on Balota :)

Plenty have, many times. A solution is to find a single server you like that is (preferably) private hive and has no hackers.

I've seen (experienced to be more precise) ONE hacker in about 6 months. He kitted the whole server out with gear and it generally caused localised mayhem for a short while.

It's cool man. At least you were smart about your posting and you actually did 2 seconds of research before you posted. My best advice would be waiting for standalone,as a lot of engine changes are being made that will prevent hackers. You can see all the changes the DayZ announcement section of the Forums.

Thanks I'm going to try to play on some of these servers people sent me and give it another shot. It's the only game I have ever just purchased a new video card ( even though it didn't help) to play and it's the only game I'll endure 15 frames a second for. I was so amazed by this game and am sorry if I annoyed people complaining about the hackers but I am just experiencing the frustration about it, and when I finally got my first kill and then got banned for hacking it just pissed me off to no end. I'm a noob, I never had sniper rifle I was so excited to get one :(

I do know how you feel despite my previous "flame".

Since I've been playing on Balota Buddies, I haven't seen or been killed by a single hacker.

Check them out, you'll love it

I think its funny how you were never going to play this game again, but after some PMs from members, your into it again. Could you not have thought to maybe check out a different server on your own?
