Why do Clans train?

I always found it baffling why clans "train" on some servers, isn't it taking this game a bit too seriously?

I myself have sniped entire "training" teams while they were running around in Cherno together like idiots, I really don't see what they are trying to accomplish, rolling around in large crowds makes it easier for snipers like me and it also serves no purpose, apart froms sniping there are no other skills which require repetition.

Yes, people take this game far too seriously - even when it's not a 'competitive' game as such like a strategy game or properly balanced FPS.

Have to agree a little.

It's different when you're playing cups and going to LANs with (cash) prizes up for grabs in games like CS, but 'training' to play DayZ at a public level seems like you're taking things a little bit too serious to me. xD

I especially hate those admins who lock their servers so their clan mates can gear up easily

There really isn't anyway to ''train'' people. If shooters are all about reflex timing and accuracy with the mouse, I don't see why DayZ is any different. If by training they subliminally mean ''Get more familiar with a gun'' sure, that's possible. Other way, nah, people are taking this too far for nothing.

If that's how they have fun then you shouldn't let it bother you. Why do you do X when in my opinion you should be doing Z?

Maybe they enjoy roleplay in the game?

I like to watch clans "train" it must give them a sense of accomplishment when they have gone through cherno with only 1 death 7 zombie agro's etc, still I wouldn't say its taking it too far as a few have stated.

Firstly, on topic.. when I played OFP (operation flashpoint, the first milsim from BI) in a clan, we also practised, and not only pvp situations, but also shooting at a range, driving different vehicles etc.. the weirdest, most unimportant thing that I recall, was learning the names/models of different vehicles and weapons. It didnt feel weird at the time, because it was a milsim and we played it like a simulation. We were almost pretending to be in the army.. :blush: ofcourse, we didnt exercise like privates, that would have been too much! :D But if you mean practising just like what you described, I agree that its a bit stupid on largely populated servers.

But I can see where your coming from, and I agree that some people take it a little too seriously, but I think that it has something to do with DayZ being a simulation (anti-)game. The fact that you lose all of your progress upon death is something that makes your heart beat when the bullets start flying.

And BTW I would love to see some kind of long lasting tournament in DayZ. Maybe something like who survives the longest, with the first death eliminating you from the competition, but instead from dropping you out of action, you get to start again. (it would be the same 50 players locked to the tournament for the duration of it, with maybe a certain amount of hours that you must play each day) Ofcourse as your out of the competition, your job is to hunt the remaining competitors out. (or maybe the eliminators who died could give their place to a random player, who wants to try their chances in the elimination) Though this might not work because of the fact, that you can just survive in the woods on the edge of the map, as long as you want.

But then again, could this be prevented by giving the competitors different daily goals, like visiting a certain city? (everyone has the same goal, to guarantee conflicts) As this just came to my mind, Im not sure would this work in a way that honors what DayZ is, as it encourages or lets say.. makes you engage in pvp, and because of that it isnt only surviving.. but it could be something to consider about. ^_^

Well, DayZ is different because teamwork makes no difference because you're playing in a giant open area where shots could be coming from everything. Shooters like CS need to train their 5 man teams to work together with timings and strategies because you're playing against a set amount of people on a time limit in a limited arena.

But I see where you're coming from.

Oh lets all bash some groups because they have fun doing something.

I'd never train in DayZ because it's a game I don't play seriously, but I train in ArmA 2 with an ArmA 2 group because it's really fun. Will we ever go into competitive gaming? No, we'll never even play against another ArmA 2 group, let alone in a competition, we do it because we enjoy it. It's not for everyone though, and this is the same case here. It's not the kind of thing most people want to do, but why bash the people who do want to do it, if that's what makes the game fun for them? Even forum moderators?

They train to get better. I never saw any reason behind training, or maybe it's just that I wouldn't put that much time into any game. But there have been a few times where i've wished the people around me took the time to familiarize themselves with a gun before we went out hunting bandits, even if I never do. Especially if they're supposed to be the counter-sniper and miss every bullet in the twenty bullet magazine.

Go for it, but my impression of you is someone who isn't accepting of others play-styles, and I'm sure it is for many others reading your post. After all, you're the ones meant to be setting an example on here.

I suppose that clan training just represents rugged efficiency out in the field of Chenerus (or whatever map your clan is frequently using).

I certainly won't bash on it, since tactics in the engine of a Realistic Military Simulator seems logical.

But unlike regular Arma, some tactics used in clans seem lengthy and are more likely to get you killed. To send an entire group into Cherno and having them killed by a snipe squad would be a waste of resources and time.

I would go for the basics, send out at most 2 guys to certain areas to do some looting (food/parts/vehicles/etc.), one as a guard and the other as the scavenger. It has worked phenomenally for me in the past and is by far the most basic idea you get have. Guard can have two options, sticking with the scavenger, or staying as spotter to keep an eye on the vicinity.

I would recommend a DMR for the guard, or if that's unlikely, at least a Lee Enfield. If the guard prefers to keep close by the scavenger, let him have an Assault rifle, or an M14 AIM. Scavenger keeps a relativly large backpack and basic secondary (preferably a PDW). If the zone proves more threatening (eg. more players and concentration in certain areas), a basic AK would do the scavenger well.

Coming from a clan based game where me and my clan used to train sometimes I wouldn't say they're taking it too seriously. If you put hundreds of hours into a game at some point 'just for fun' doesn't cut it anymore. You want to be competitive and what better way to prep your clan than train?

It's probably coordination and cooperation training, in Dayz it's very easy to disorient yourself in a group. And since enemies can come from anywhere vocal coordination is difficult to learn. You've probably never played with 2 or more buddies, things get exceedingly disorganized with more players. Gamers don't generally have military training for that.

I always found it baffling why some faggs bother to "snipe" on servers, isn't it taking this game a bit too seriously?

I myself have been sniped while running around Cherno, The sniper must have full gear, I really don't see what sniping me is going to accomplish.

It also servers no real purpose except to grief other players.
