Andeez 6 Posted January 8, 2013 in the standalone, you should be able to hide behind cover with the effect you can use in games such asHitman: AbsolutionRainbow Six: Las Vegas 1 & 2Ghost Recon: Future SoldierThis would then just be a keybind you could use againt buildings.mostly for the looks of taking cover and a cool thing when you're peaking on other survivors

chris_heyward 47 Posted January 8, 2013 so you're saying that this addon that makes you get more effective cover destroyed a game?It did for Splinter Cell. It broke the game that bad that I could play it one-handed and still have full control as that mechanic led to other mechanics that led to updates of that mechanic.Plus, these DayZ survivors are meant to be the odd military guy and the rest average people. If I wanted a game full of Third-Echelon ninja's, I'd just go play Splinter Cell instead
Very Ape 748 Posted January 8, 2013 It's easy enough to take cover as it is.Being able to see over walls without actually poking your head out is something we should be combating, not encouraging.

Andeez 6 Posted January 8, 2013 When that happens i recon most servers will go 1st person so people will actually have to move to have a fight because then everyone will be got stuck on the wall shooting with the weapon held over cover and a 3rd person crosshair...servers should of course be able to enable or disable this option, and if you're in 1st person you should be able to take cover in that way, but still see it from 1st person when you peaking and taking cover

Andeez 6 Posted January 14, 2013 why did this person suggest to make dayz more like gears of war?so just because of 1 feature, it becomes gears of war?
dallas 5195 Posted January 14, 2013 ArmA already have great cover mechanics and unlike other cover mechanics, this is not a gimmick. ArmA's AI already distinguish between cover and concealment. If the AI see you disappear behind a rock, they'll quickly stop shooting. If the AI see you disappear behind a bush, they'll hose the bush with their machinegun. Never 237 Posted January 14, 2013 'Sticky cover' is a horrible clunky system.Think GTA etc, do you really want to get stuck to a wall when the control fails? or have to dread doors as the almost impassable objects they become? or have a turning circle that makes a double-decker bus seem graceful? enforcer1975 1111 Posted January 14, 2013 'Sticky cover' is a horrible clunky system.Think GTA etc, do you really want to get stuck to a wall when the control fails? or have to dread doors as the almost impassable objects they become? or have a turning circle that makes a double-decker bus seem graceful?Damn thing is only because it looks cool doesn't mean it's useful...Hitman Absolution has such a wonderful shitty system. Only because you hug the wall the AI can't see you where they actually have absolute line of sight, on the other hand they see you unless you hug the wall no matter if they don't have line of sight. dallas 5195 Posted January 14, 2013 In ArmA, whenever the AI loses line of sight to it's target, it will try to predict your location based on your last seen direction and speed. So if you break line of sight and want to get rid on enemy pursuers, you also have to chance direction. In Arma, you can peak out of cover and engage the enemy, but while you represent a much smaller target, you're still forced to expose at least part of you head and while it's a small target, you really don't want to get shoot too much in the face.I don't care much about cover system gimmicks, I feel as warmly about it as other types of quick time events, which are designed to create an epic moment, but you're really just watching a cuts scene and being told to press your X key repeatedly. Instead of actually taking cover, you're just activating a cover mechanic, which automatically gives you a 80% damage reduction and decreased your accuracy by 25%.ArmA is rough around the edges, but it has solid mechanics and ArmA does not need to offer then same cheap techniques other shooters use to cut corners with. OrLoK 16185 Posted January 14, 2013 i'm not a fan of the sticky system crouch and lean is my requirements.it would be nice to dynamically be able to peer over/weapon rest on whatever you are behind whatever the height. So many ledges are just too high or just too low to rest my weapon on. That's a real pain.L
m.w. vindicator 880 Posted January 14, 2013 Besides what Orlok said, there is no need for sticky cover. ArmA already has the lean feature and its all anyone would need. In ArmA 3 there are all sorts of new animations to combat the problem With cover being not quite the right height. It would be nice to see these implemented.
