Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted January 8, 2013 My opinion is that they should also pick some normal people to see how the game behaves with their pc's. 1-5% of the players have beast rig as the famous youtubers. There should be a form where you've to select your PC specs, and then questions likehow long have you played dayzhow many hours... blablalba.just my opinion on this :PI know the discussion has been revolving around the high profile people that have been chosen but remember that they will make up a tiny percentage of the people testing. Regarding testing by "normal" people well I'd consider myself and the other mods fairly normal. Rest assured that the testing pool of people contains a wide and varied mix of people.
BwobBwub 660 Posted January 8, 2013 Don't feel disappointed if you didn't get on closed testing, that means SA might be released soon :)
Vincenzo (DayZ) 97 Posted January 8, 2013 I probaly got the rarest and oldest RIG of you all. 2006/2005. Run it damn fine.I know the discussion has been revolving around the high profile people that have been chosen but remember that they will make up a tiny percentage of the people testing.Regarding testing by "normal" people well I'd consider myself and the other mods fairly normal. Ovation 52 Posted January 8, 2013 Don't feel disappointed if you didn't get on closed testing, that means SA might be released soon :) Guys this is a very good signthey are looking at testing the SA build with a smaller range of people to check stability, This means they believe "if it's successful" public testing can commence.so fingers crossed this week we see a stable game play experience
JamesButlin 108 Posted January 8, 2013 (edited) I do really hope we get some form of lottery with this, but I fear it could be already decided who gets in!Don't feel disappointed if you didn't get on closed testing, that means SA might be released soon :)This is why I'm not fussed. :DI seem to be one of the few people that actually enjoyed frankie's videos, staged or not. -shrug- Edited January 8, 2013 by JamesButlin
RosscoMac 75 Posted January 8, 2013 I think you have to go outside in the rain and yell "ROCKET" as loud as you can for thirty minutes. You will know you are accepted if the next door you open breaks your leg.I got accepted!! :D Anyone got some morphine? <_<
f123456789knvm 10 Posted January 9, 2013 Considering Youtubers are getting picked and are openly announcing their beta status there will probably be no NDA so expect videos and whatnot. I have tested alpha and beta tested more than 20 games many of which were triple A titles all of which didn't even allow participants to talk about the beta period let alone record video so expect some good coverage. Derpy_Hooves (DayZ) 4521 Posted January 9, 2013 Kinda think it sucks that some people are boasting about being testers i mean if your under NDA are you allowed to talk about it?, i honestly don't mind waiting till SA comes out, just hope no one ruins anything in the test stages with Videos that may stir rumors... suppose we will have to wait and see. DemonGroover 8836 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) I suspect these Youtubers haven't yet seen or signed anything and are probably beating up their channels. Some might get a shock once they sign an NDA.My creed, from the great Ricky Roma (Glengarry Glen Ross - great fucking film): "You never open your mouth until you know what the shot is."Pity i don't follow it too well myself. krihelion 175 Posted January 9, 2013 it will be reserverved for big names who will get the game publicity no doubt
guisho 258 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) All the people that ask for a beta key have to think that the purpose of this instance it's only for "scavenge" bugs and stress out servers to see where are the biggest first concerns for the devs to check and have on mind before releasing the game to the public. If one of us plays that beta it's pretty much possible that we will only try to get equipment and kill other people/survive instead of 100% helping the original cause. Dean & company aren't doing this because they're feeling generous with the mods and recognized players, it's because they know that they're pretty much the better capacitated peers that have close to borrow some help from them and deliver a better polished product for the rest of the mortals like me. (sorry about the english) Edited January 9, 2013 by Guisho
DMC14 46 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) Giving beta testing access to fanboys (like rhino) doesn't help to improve the product, but only to advertise it... and don't get me wrong, that's EXACTLY what a publisher should do to be sure to sell more copies. Look at EA, when they had to decide to who give the beta access to BF3, did they opted for the hardcore players? Naaa.. they only gives you trouble asking to change this and that, they gave it to a bunch of random kids.Playing arma or dayz by long time, knowing deeply how it would, what to adjust, and stuff like this wouldn't help to access a closed beta.. but if you have been here screaming how amazing are the [exact same gfx of the current mod] "new" screenshots, will sure help. It's 2013 ppl.. stop believing into Santa, it's a money affair... this game has to sell, not to please a bunch of few nerds.I got to do it for BF3. im 33 and love bf franchise. And there is always gonna be some faggot in that game whinging that some gun is to powerfull or is to acurate and needs to be nerfed. all i ask is do not start nerfing guns once the stand alone comes out that shit drives me crazy. nuclear (DayZ) 7 Posted January 9, 2013 Personally, I don't care who gets in as long as they actually take it serioulsy and help the developers make a great game. The upside is that the release can't be that far off if they are letting youtubers do the testing and they are recording. The team must be fairly confident that there are no huge game breaking bugs at this point that would send them back to the drawing board.
DemonGroover 8836 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) I think the aim of this closed test is to essentially try and break the game and find any big issues that must be fixed before a general release. So, yes the testing will be taken seriously.I want a great game just as much as the next person. Edited January 9, 2013 by DemonGroover
Rage VG 4033 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) I heard rumors I was picked based on my non-homosexual love for orlok; and also rocket thought my profile pic was gnarly.I don't know, because I've got quite an un-gnarly picture, and my love for Orlok is totally homosexual. Maybe it's because of our 1337 grammar skills. Edited January 9, 2013 by Rage VG

OrLoK 16182 Posted January 9, 2013 1337 is so retro, it's now cool again.I miss my pet leet.Lastly any love I have have (homosexual or otherwise) is just a front. I'm actually an unfeeling, uncaring cold hearted machine. But, I do "push back".L

chernojourno 226 Posted January 9, 2013 I suspect these Youtubers haven't yet seen or signed anything and are probably beating up their channels. Some might get a shock once they sign an NDA.My creed, from the great Ricky Roma (Glengarry Glen Ross - great fucking film): "You never open your mouth until you know what the shot is."Pity i don't follow it too well myself.I can confirm there was an NDA that was linked to the invite. You needed to sign it and send a scan back which I did.The NDA is quite general, and therefore can cover quite alot which was probably why no one has mentioned the testing until after Rocket did, even though we were invited before Christmas. Right now according to the NDA we can't do anything with images, videos, streaming etc. But Rocket has said he'll allow streaming so I assume that means videos too.But until I get confirmation form the DayZ Dev team I wouldn't dare stream, upload videos, picture etc. My plans for the test are pretty simple, explore the entire map and try to break every single part I can. I'm expecting it to be buggy, full of glitches, and broken in so many ways. To me its the least i can do for a game and team that's given me so much joy, frustration, elation, pain and a bucket load of great stories and memories. Hopefully my contribution will help get it up to a better standard for everyone else to enjoy down the track. If they do allow streaming I think it would be hilarious as it'll most likely be one or two servers max. Will their be complaints of stream sniping from the streamers?
morgan32 403 Posted January 9, 2013 I agree with above. I actually hope there wont be any media released, just let the testers have their lolz and lets be happy that StandAlone is right around the corner.
Zexis 127 Posted January 9, 2013 Good luck, it's not an easy job choosing 1000 beta testers! It seems funny to call it beta testing when it will be called an alpha product upon release. That is, of course, unless Rocket has pushed this thing back so it doesn't feel so alpha-y.
