Kinda scared of this game

Recommended Posts

Okay so DayZ kinda freaks me out... Its pretty freaking scary ya know, although it is fun. Though whether its Day or Night Im always scared, I am scared of zombies and players at the same time. Im just always really nervous of whatever whether its a zombie coming my way or footsteps, always just on the edge. I ran in a group of 3 on one server in which I wasn't scared but ... But trying to run alone, is very scary. I will eventually run in a group steadily but still, being alone is scary is hell. How can I get over of the scare factor of this game?

I'd just play more, you'd get used to the feeling when you hear weird noises or stuff like that.

Fair enough assessment, do you recommend me run with groups or alone?

It's a very nervy game, especially when you're new. That's one of the reasons it became so popular early on, there's not many games that give you sweaty palm and make you feel guilty/excited if you have to kill someone.

Just stick at it and before long you'll hardcore.

I think it's best to learn alone for a bit, also, if you're struggling with some of the basics don't forget the Arma tutorials, they can help you practice many things in a slightly lass hostile environment.

In the long run though running with a group can be more fun and have advantages, it really depends on your playstyle, I still do both.

If you have a gun, and know how to hit a target you shouldn't be scared. You can also ask if people are friendly, try hiding in bushes etc.

I dont really know what you mean about a "scare factor" because as I see it, it's not that scary, but you get paranoid while playing, in the fear of meeting other players, zombies and so on :)

Try getting in a shootout with some people, if you've got nothing to lose, maybe that can help you getting that "kick of adrenalin", and after the shootout, you'll maybe find out that it ain't scary, but god damn funny.

I dont know, but I gave it a shot :)

you can also play arma2 singleplayer, so you can play as a badass soldier, and then come back to dayz and be a badass survivor. when you play for a bit, you'll stop being scared by zombies and it's a big step forward, other players will be always the biggest threat you can find, but if you are not worried by zombies you can think better..

^ What Bludy said, playing the original Arma2 missions and campaign will give you a lot of help.

I've been playing for months and i still get a bit jumpy. Its part of the draw of the game. I hope to never lose it cos it gives you an edge.

another helpful thing about arma2 is the bots saying ''rifleman, 200m south'' so you can learn how an enemy shape appears at a lot of different distances, and in consequence, how zeroing your weapon..

How old are you?

Play this game at 1AM on your own with the sound turned up, You will know what fear is then! Turn off in game music, too, listen to the map sounds like the screaming girl in Namalsk or the birds near the Green Mountain complex.

I'm still scared of running into people ... I have been known to go run and hide like a little girl at the first hinting of trouble (gunshots, odd noises, etc.) because I continually fail to follow the cardinal rule of DayZ: DON'T GET ATTACHED TO YOUR GEAR!!

Great game - at first, I was scared of zombies and spent a lot of time avoiding them, etc.

After a while, you begin to fear the other players ... they are ruthless. The best thing about this game is every few hours you have an epic story that you created -

I can think of so many SICK gun fights against human opponents, scanning the distance, looking for muzzle flashes, trying to flank and fearing the sound of rotors in the distance.

With a team, it's even more fun to play IMO.

Keep playing!

On my guy now I managed to find a coyote backpack, all the basic survival items, plenty of food/drink/med supplies, as well as the M4 variant with the laser dot site and flashlight with like 10 clips... running in Cherno for shit I don't need just doesn't appeal to me anymore. Way too attached, like it will almost be a relief when this guy dies. Almost. But then again, Day 9 now; I want to see how high I can get :o

But yeah Dayz can get intense. Sometimes I end up shaking after an encounter with a player is concluded. Zombies... just a minor inconvienance now.

The beating of my heart as I'm about to kill somebody always excites me, I play as a solo bandit, looking for loot and enemies.

This game questions your actions, Why did I kill that person? was it neccesary? I don't really think any other game does that.

Also Arma 2 gun shot sounds have scared the total fuck out of me, I never get scared that much even on Slender, amnesia or horror movies etc.

Take a hatchet and try to stealthy come up to zombies and kill them. Helps a lot to understand they're okay. About man encounters - I'm playing since June and still feel my heart beating sometimes.

All good advice. I've been playing barely a month and love the game. So far I have only died through zombie or stupidity. Tempting fate here but I am yet to be player killed or indeed be a player killer.

Like Fraggle says, its good to try and get a handle on the game solo to begin with.

Try sending a message saying 'hi' when you join a server, many people are very friendly and will often help out for advice. But watch you back at all times, use your commom sense...and good luck! COYS!

Because I just got my new PC still on my 1st character, went up north and found the good stuff and then thought "what would be the best idea to overcome the rule, *don't get attached to your gear*? I'll go to cherno!"

So I did, and before that I killed somebody, it was nerve racking, my heart was pumping out of my chest as I killed him.

Now i'm in cherno, yet to be killed yet and have 13 player kills with my m14 aim :) 2/3 of which I was getting shot at
