Roh 0 Posted October 29, 2012 I hope this isn't taboo but I'm really curious about what to expect with the Alpha funding release of standalone DayZ. I've wanted to try the mod pretty badly but... Money is really, really tight for me and mine and.. Well. I have no personal interest in Arma II. It's just not for me. And since I've really looked into DayZ there have been whispers of a standalone. Can't buy a game twice. Just can't.Anyway my question is just how playable will the early alpha release likely be? I mean with my prior experiences you shouldn't expect too much from an Alpha. The game is barely even beginning to take shape at that point. But DayZ is different. While you seem to be making huge changes the engine already exists, you know it pretty darn well, and you already have existing content to work with.So using say the current state of the mod would we expect it to be far below, nearing, or even possibly above the playability at initial alpha release? I'm probably going to get it as soon as possible regardless but trying to slack my curiousity is a good way to deal with my urges to try the mod now when I can't. Roh 0 Posted October 29, 2012 Yea, I don't do that. Not only are they likely stolen but I can't bring myself to trust any place selling those sorts of keys with my information. It may be relatively safe but I don't want to find out. And then there is the fact that my funds aren't only mine. >.> It's not easy to talk your better half into letting you buy the same game twice when it's hard times keeping the bills paid and our bellies full. No matter cheap they are.
sheepdawg 278 Posted October 29, 2012 Personally as long as the SA is equal or greater than the current state of the mod I will be happy. I am getting SA regardless, but I do hope its in decent shape. Even identical to the mod but with a better Cherno will sit me fine, but if its a step back from the mod I will be a bit upset. Erizid 56 Posted October 29, 2012 Before the end of November was the last expected release date I heard. However since this was unconfirmed, I can only tell you the official party line which is any day between tomorrow and December 31st.
OrLoK 16188 Posted October 29, 2012 hello thereI'm sure I replied to this before? I must be going mad.Your most likely major issue with the game will be the human interface aspect of the game, It just doesnt play like any FPS you have played before. To that end I recommend downloading A2Free and see whether the control system stymies you or if you can get your head around the avatar movement and to he unique-nesses of Arma2.We cant say anything about the first release, but bear in mind all RV engine based releases have had major hiccups when first released into the wild, I'll be surprised if DSA is any different. But, they usually shape up into sterling sims/games so, as long as you are prepared to invest time and feedback then you are on the right track. If you want a fully polished AAA game, then you may be better off looking elsewhere.RgdsLoK
Roh 0 Posted October 29, 2012 Actually I have tried the free one. That is how I can be fairly sure I don't want the game. Well, I might have earlier in its release. But not now. How it went was I tried the original ArmA. Didn't like it. So I never looked at ArmA 2. It had come along. Brand new I may have liked it but well. I didnt get to see it again till it went free. And it just wasnt quite so great that I wanted to get it with the sequel coming along. Now money is tight and I probably won't be getting 3 right away either. lol. But I think I should be able to get SA at the alpha price.
OrLoK 16188 Posted October 29, 2012 Hello thereWell, umm ..............*thinking*Aha!, what I would do then is simply wait for the first alpha reviews to come forth and base your descision on that. Also, it give you a while to squirrel away some cash.rgdsLoK
Buckwheat 1 Posted October 29, 2012 Well the standalone is basically picking off were the mod is right now, adding features, ect. So if will defiantly be playable, just as much as it is now, but I would wait for the standalone. But adding onto what orlok said, did you like how Arma felt when you played it? the gun mechanics, running, ect. Because DayZ feels about the same, and if you dont enjoy the mechanics, then you may want to think twice about buying it.The SA is not going to be very expensive, I think they said around 30 bucks. So I think if you are fine with the controls and mechanics, then I would wait for the SA and have a blast when it comes out.
sausagekingofchicago 4711 Posted October 29, 2012 If you're strapped for cash right now, I suggest you wait. In the meantime, there are tons of active streamers and tons of videos. You can literally watch non-stop streams and videos of the game until the standalone comes out. When it does, you can be sure there will be plenty of streamers showcasing the standalone. Watch some streams, read some reviews, and then decide if you like what you see.
liamcz@hotmail.com 98 Posted October 29, 2012 If you don't like the general interface/gameplay etc of ArmA, then you will probably turn away from DayZ standalone. I say this because DayZ will be based of the ArmA 3 engine, and I highly doubt that gameplay and interface will change from 2 to 3, I mean.. Why would they? You may like the idea of DayZ, however if you aren't prepared to spend the money on it because you simply don't like the general concept of the vanilla game, then you will probably turn away from DayZ standalone once you buy it.Just my opinion. I began playing DayZ because I played ArmA 2 since release, and hey, why not try a free mod? Unless you can get a hands on try of DayZ in it's current Alpha stage, I can honestly say you'll eventually turn away from DayZ standalone once it's released due to you simply not liking the general aspects of the game. dragonkatol 135 Posted October 29, 2012 Well, alpha will be cheaper than the later releases. So, if you can't spend much for a video game, buy it in alpha, other releases would be free if you bought it. Anyway, As orlok has said, Wait for the reviews on alpha release. There's a bunch of us that will be getting it at the first day and will most likely post our experiences and dislikes about DayZ:SA.
void.false@gmail.com 300 Posted October 29, 2012 (edited) Another "I cunt buy the game twice" thread. All the people who say that they can't afford another $20 I want to ask a question:How the fuck are you paying for your life? How do you pay for electricity? Food? Rent? Gas or bus ticket? And the most interesting part for me is how the fuck you've got enough cash to get online in the first place to beg here on the forums?EDIT:On top of that, if you can't afford yourself $20 you should stop playing god damn video games RIHGT NOW and start on improving your life! How about starting to care about your difficult financial time instead of growing fat ass sitting all day playing games?
dallas 5195 Posted October 29, 2012 Since we're only 1-2 months away from the standalone and money is tight, wait it out. If you're not already a big fan of ArmA 2, which is also winding down, ArmA 2 players are pacing themselves for the release of ArmA 3, you're much better off for the standalone, which will be a much more streamlined experience(obviously I have no actual proof for this statment). Roh 0 Posted October 29, 2012 Well, people sort of went off topic from the very start hear. Suppose it's to be expected as most likely only a dev could answer the question. But just to be clear to everyone I was actually just asking what the best guesses at the state of DayZ standalone would be at alpha release.
