Standalone single player…?!?

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this has already come up - apologies if it has!

How about a single player backstory campaign? Maybe even co-op?

You'd start in some little town as a copper (/cop) when the outbreak begins. Maybe there's some npc scenes, and those npc'c are Zeds in the mp…

Then there's an army scorched earth mission; an airforce bombing run; the the Yanks get called in; finally the battle for NWAF (with helo's crashing in the distance, or on the airfield when Zed stows away). Lastly, you hop on a chopper and fly out. Just as you cross the shore you watch a chinook, or whatever, go down with engine trouble into the sea.

Someone says, 'they'll have to swim for it.'

Someone else: 'back there? I'd rather die…'

Or something like that. Maybe your soldier char just makes it on to a civvie chopper which goes down (full of the different survivor skins).

It's just a thought anyway - maybe more little scenes than a full blown campaign. And it's optional obviously. But it might add some depth to the multiplayer - some NPC characters could turn up as Zeds, or unique pieces of equipment could be found. Or maybe the helo that crashes gives you a choice of character to spawn.

That's my thoughts anyway. Had a zombie dream last night :)

It's a good suggestion.

I think sooner or later there will have to be a single player element to the game, I would just love to play DayZ in single player. I can understand why Rocket doesn't want a single player after the betrayal, but I think it would be good for the community and those who don't play online multiplayer games. There is a whole new market out there for those who just want to play Day without the hassle and issues of online issues! I'll be honest I only went online gaming for DayZ, nothing else.

I am hoping when the SA comes out the community will offer the Mod in a single player campaign. All attention will be on the SA, so no loss there if the Mod isn't being worked on! Naturally with Rockets permission. If they are continuing with the mod, I would still like a single player DayZ!

Well if you could afford it, rent a server and lock it down! ;) single player DayZ.

Not really a fan of this idea though.

I would sooner not, part of the reason i got into DayZ was what would I do? I can't justify renting a server for one player, beats the point of being poor.

I just like the idea of lone survivor, and what would I do. The game as it is is fine online, but the option would be great. Its why I loved Fallout 3, Lone wanderer walking the wasteland. do what you want when you want.

Hello there

Firstly "betrayal" is a bit harsh IMHO, perhaps misunderstanding? :)

Secondly, I too am an avid SP player, and although a bit lonely, I still give DayzSP a bash every now and then. Sometimes I just don't want to deal with the twattery of the internet and like to play alone.

But, although I don't expect a decent campaign (from the RV engine), I would like some dynamic aspects and AI controlled survivors (even if they just possess std OPFOR AI).

One could label it as a training sim for real online play.

One reason why I'll never play WARZ for example is that it's online only, that just doesn't float my particular boat.

User choice is key IMHO.

Please Rocket Single player addition, I give you £10!! (Couple of pints at least? Jar of Vegemite?)

Hello lok, I always like your forum input by the way

Do you use an old SP mod (for an older dayz version) or are there more up-to-date ones that are usable?

Thanks

Hello there

I use a very, very old version (essentially the original). But, if you do a quick google you can quickly find various versions, I cannot vouch for them though. (don't want you to loose your cd key!).

Be aware though that some recent ones shown on Youtube with the "Flashpoint" mission are a little misleading and show armed Zeds, which arn't really Zeds, rather Zed skinned Civvies, so they won't act in a zombie way. Also, afaik troops still wont engage or interact with Zeds.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, the key duping programs were exactly why I asked rather than just googling... I may habg on then till the SA which may include a mode or may be modded to include single.

Rocket has already said that his brother, who is a virologist, is working on a back story for the multiplayer..

I think it'd kinda detract from what DayZ is. Half of it is zombie survival, but, from a personal point of view, the fact theres other players on the same map is the essense of DayZ and what it's trying to achieve.

But with Fallout you still have NPCs in exchange for human players which is almost the same just calculable. You can basically do everything you want within the limits of DayZ. Just wait for the standalone then you maybe can set up a private server provided they add the tools, play on it and get bored...

Just need a company with excellent story making abilities to make this on the Dayz standalone.

you guys are dim. the whole fucking point of DayZ, both of them, is to be exceptionally vague and have people tell their own stories.

Hello there

I know many of you like multiplayer play, and whilst not exciting for you, SP play may well be exciting for many, many others.

I play far more SP than MP in all of my games, the main interaction I have with the nameless hordes is through one or two forums. (I don't do facebook for example).

Yes, the game as it stands isn't super exciting for SP but I like it, and as I'll never to be able to afford a server it would be nice to have the option to play SP.

If the standalone doesn't support it I'll stick to the mod version and will have to play that branch.

But we all must remember that each person plays the game in their own way, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Mindsets like these I always have trouble understanding. I just have trouble understanding the appeal of a multiplayer game with no multiplayer.

Like playing WoW on a private server by yourself, it might be fun for a couple hours, but it really leaves the game feeling empty and you're missing out on such a core point of the game I just don't get the point.

Back when I played wow I had several toons - a main, an alt and a anti social one. The point being, if I just wanted twenty minutes of peace and quiet gaming, I could use the anonymous one that my mates didn't know about…

I love MP; I love getting KoS'd by people with more time to invest than me; I love killing bandits; I love the tense moment when you run across the NWAF in broad daylight; I love firing flares in Cherno at nighttime. BUT I also sometimes just want to experience a story, or shoot Zeds or in general play without pressure.

If there was a SP aspect to dayz, it wouldn't feel empty. It'd maybe be like a training area for noobs before that hit the beach of the standalone.

Remember - games nowadays live or die by the community. There are so many people who'll buy the likes of BF3 they'd already planned four DLCs at launch. If we treat newbies like s*** the community won't grow and neither will dayz.

Just some thoughts.

That's not the main problem here...if only one trigger isn't activated because some AI decides to go another way while retreating the whole campaign is fucked up because you can't roll back ( example for a linear campaign in ArmA ). Now imagine that in an interactive world where there are even more random changes...

Trust me, I never get bored of DayZ, My imagination is big enough to find lots of different playable scenarios.

...if someone is willing to sacrifice days of their freetime to script them for you...otherwise it's just dumb AI vs the player running from lootspawn to lootspawn...i doubt Rocket or his team will do that, enough to do with ArmA 3 and DayZ is currently planned as MP only for it to "work".

There is a plethora of SP zombie games on the market already. Its flooded with them. This game is not designed for SP and should not be designed for SP.
