    Weapon Customisation

If the Standalone has detailed Weapon Customization it should have Weapon Decay as well. This would mean that certain parts of the gun need maintenance after a period of time, depending on its usage. If a Gun is used heavily (high amount of reloads), gets in contact with water or got hit by a bullet/zombie it should decay a little bit. There should although be a chance for the gun to decay every time you change a modification slot. This would mean that people would need to find secondary equipment for their weapons to keep them healthy (same system as with vehicles) and you could not switch the weapon attachment without worrying about decay, which would mean less abuse potential of the weapon modification system.
  2. We've decided to try out RMOD on our Taviana 2.0 server. I've not found a list of vhicles I'm able to spawn from ArmA2, I've only been able able to test out by trial and error. I'm building a list, but am I missing anything? Is there a RMOD vehicle, skin, weapons list? Also, does anyone know how to eliminate the script restriction kicks for #87, #20 and I think the other is #17. These occur when firing certain missles or bombs from aircraft or vehicles, that many of you Rmodders may have xperienced. Can these be fixed like the script Restriction #85? Thanks.

    Rethink 3rd person view

Vehicles have an inherently restrictive view. Allowing it in vehicles gives you more situational awareness, this is unnecessary for first person since you have enough awareness. Plus there's little to no risk of a person exploiting 3rd person view in a vehicle to look around cover.

    Staying legit as an admin

The server I play on has great admins. He just sticks with his group and loots. He doesn't hoard vehicles so he doesn't care to raid camps. I remember back when I had my server and these tools first came around. I just decided to ignore the camps, and if someone else in my group found it, then we would finally go raid it, but I never would say where they were.

    Why I'm uninstalling DayZ

    - Your name automatically disqualifies every point you make, valid or not. - Axes are not in Arma II, therefore bugged, fixed in SA. Argument invalid -Armed players as fresh spawns would create chaos, people going around ghosting and killing as spawns, and players would know this, therefore causing more people to KoS. Arguement invalid. -More melee weapons? Possibly. Knife should have the ability to be used. Not a valid reason for quitting. -Crossbow bolts ARE recoverable, if you actually try. Argument ignorant. -Zombie attacks are basic, non complicated attacks, and still have the same effect as a complicated animation. You're complaining because the zombie won't give you a hickey when you get to close? Argument invalid. -CQC is fine. Can't find any single reason why it is flawed. Argument invalid. -Blood system works the way it is. You bleed too long, you die. Plus, all the excuse you give is that it is flawed. Real in depth buddy. Argument invalid AND ignorant. -You want to have to open up individual pockets or something on a bag? Somebodies just looking to bitch now. Argument invalid. -Again, survival is not 'flawed'. You eat and drink what you can find. Sounds like your own damn problem you can't find jack shit. Argument invalid. -Don't play at night then? Can't remember the last time I went outside at night and felt comfortable enough to run around in the dark. Argument pointless. -Finally a valid point. Yes, SCRIPT KIDDIES do tend to get on ones nerves. One solution instead of getting butthurt, is to get the fuck over it and move on. -More vehicles? I'm sure in your vision of DayZ, everyone would not shoot you, line themselves up in your crosshairs, and then pull the trigger for you. you honestly going to think it is going to be that easy dude? Really? Argument invalid. -Point is to have fun. Argument... again, invalid. My conclusion after reading this ignorant, butthurt, sad thread, is that you are a person that cannot figure out how to play the game correctly, suck at it, and came from some arcade shooter. I say please do quit, one less person bitching on our forums, and one less person eating MY FUCKING BEANS. Piss off loser. Go play some WarZ, then come back and bitch about how bad this game is. LOL

    Rethink 3rd person view

But why stop there? Why allow it in vehicles?

    Staying legit as an admin

To be honest I have found that most admins are very abusive. I don't think I have been on one server where the admin haven't helped themselves and their friends and if you ever find one of their camps or take their vehicles (without knowing it's theirs) they use the admin powers to track you down, kill you, or wait 'till you log off. Then use the map to find the vehicle and take it back. I have been on really good servers with really nice admins but on every one they have used admin powers to their own gain.
  9. Ok- Zombies still glitch though walls after all this time. Tents are broken again Humanity is broken again. Hero skin broken/nerfed Weapons nerfed, pistols and SMGs combat ineffective against players, 5.56 weapons nerfed. As50. /m107 still in game. Temperature feature broken/removed. Zombies cause damage to player inside vehicle even when vehicle is in motion, ie, running over the zombie that is causing the damage to you. Still no base building features. Still no improved spawn system. Still no areas of interest other than the airfields. Nighttime is not a feature it should be. Too much focus on weapons and gear, added all those new weapons and removed none. Lots of zombies, nothing to kill them with except hatchet, or maybe Enfield + 10 rounds. No stanag brounds in industrial areas or anywhere but spawn in stores ? Maybe baracks.... Removed peripheral dots without, any poll or discussion, maybe I missed it. Refueling vehicles is a stupid operation, some places have fuel others not. Vehicles are a coffin on wheels. Not enough vehicles on map. No satisfaction in killing zombies, needs improved/ interesting death animations. Delayed death when shooting zombies including head shots. Cannot eat inside vehicle. Cannot fire weapon inside vehicle. Weapon cursor/ x hair is a global setting, should be per weapon. Bandit skin should override all other skins. Scoreboard broken. Debug monitor removed. Zombies only exist/spawn around structures, should be done like namalsk. Quitting the game is a pain in the ass. Game or mod has no fun factor. 90% PVP at least because theres nothing more to do. And there's probably much more I can't think of right now.
  10. I like day Z. I love banditing it up, I love running into people. I like seeing server comunities. I like rivalries with other bandit groups. Me and me amigos just started a server and I was wanting to ask all you other admins out there, How the hell do you stay legit? To keep from having massive dupes and cheats you have to check inventories, camps, vehicles. you know where everything is. you know where everyone is. You know what they have. How the hell do you not become abusive? I like hunting down camps, and stalking players. I'm good at it. But I can't stand the idea of being or being precived as an abusive admin. Is the only choice to go hero mode?

    Green Mountain Camp

Just cut across GM and checked out the base while passing between deer stands, before reading the forums. Three empty tins and a zombie in the tower, nothing at the dorm and only undriveable wrecks littered about. Public vanilla servers seem to have no vehicles or exotic loot (or crash sites) ... something's been wrong since 1.7.2.5
  12. We were out for blood. An admin had just acused us of stealing from his camp. Being as we were raiding some one else's camp we assumed that it was his and took off in our Huey. An argument went down in side chat and he threatened to ban us, before we realized that he assumed that we stole vehicles from his camp because we happened to be standing next to them. and the whole server now knew this. We had to act fast. Before the real thieves evacuated that campsite. We landed and geared up M40 and FnFal in my inventory. Jeff and Ben with M14s and Cam with his Acog. We had a plan. Take the humvee north of their camp, spred out and take them down one by one. Then we would blow up every damn one of those vehicles with our sachal charges. We wanted to take a screen shot and and write them a note, "thanks for the F-shack." We took to the forest when we saw them. 4 cars in a row, Yellow ural, UAZs, and a Blue Ural all driving along the road. A convoy heading into the woods just south of us. We argued about what to do, How close we should follow. Jeff thought they had spotted us when they stopped but i was positive it was only one man per vehicle. They had to be paying atention to not hitting trees, and I doubted they would see our humvee from a click away. We got out and watched, then they took off. We tried to re-embark and catch them but we lost sight. We had a good idea where they would be. We stopped and tried to come up with a new plan to keep from alarting them. Turned around in the woods and started to double back. Thats when we saw them. Or they saw us. 4 men stepped out of a Black SUV and opened fire. Jeff stopped short and everyone jumped out. Ben died in the first hail of Mk 48 rounds. "Get behind the Humvee!" not sure who screamed that but I was already hit and sprinting into tree cover. I had no visiblity but those pines saved my life. Jeff and cam both yelled over skype trying to organize. I got mixed reports of "I killed one!" and "I'm dead." I looked around and just up hill of me was our humvee, I had the perfect ambush set up. They had no idea i was still alive. One walked over by the driver's side. I pulled my Fn Fal out of my pack and shot a 3 round burst at him. Not sure if i hit him or not, he dissapeared into the cab, I did cripple the vehicle though by taking out its tire. He jumped out the other side. I could see two of them. One in a bandit skin, and the other in guillie. They knew I was fireing from them but couldn't figure out from where. They poked their heads out around the cab trying to get a peak. 2 shots at the guillie but i couldn't land one. I finaly got the one in the bandit skin through the windows. He was down. My comrads hooted and hollered from the grave. Now was the waiting game. I could see the other members in their team dieing over and over in side chat. probably trying to get a Kamenka spawn. My team was doing the same. If eitehr of us got reinforcments this was over. I couldn't see him. I Had to do something. As my heart raced I backed up to the other side of my tree cover and was pleased to see that their was an easy to follow cover of trees that would let me skirt around to the front of my humvee. Slow and steady. I turned the the last tree seeing the headlights of my humvee 50 meters off. No one was there. I waited. It had already been 10 minutes. I foolishly assumed he had left. I went to inspect the corpses and take that Mk 48 as my prize when two bullets from 100 meters out pinned me to the humvee. Last time I get impatiant.
  13. custom vehicles? sounds good I will consider joining this I will add you on skype but first check out one of my own new Topic's on my Day Z story line I would be very grateful if you leave constructive feedback thank you!!!

More cars. (This is not a "ADD A LIMO" thread.)

Why not make the number of vehicles based upon either the maximum or average number of players on the server? And there could stand to be a little better variety of cars and especially motorcycles and boats (which also need to be more useful. House boats, oil platforms and aircraft carriers have been mentioned in many other threads, but I was thinking along the lines of adding more islands and perhaps giving Takistan a coastline and puting it across the sea to the south.). I'm not so sure about adding keys. I like the idea of it but not sure about the actual implementation. Would they take up an inventory slot? Would you need to remember to manually lock your car, just like turning off its engine? Rather than adding in a "break window" option with a risk of injury, why not just shoot it out? Maybe making it so you can "claim" a vehicle, effectively locking it, and then another player would need to break a window and hot-wire it before they could "claim" it. I like the idea of, rather than making cars less common, making them require more (or at least, more specific) maintenance. Make it so the engine and tires wear out after x number of km driven or hours running, and need a tune up and replacement, respectively. Maybe rather than having generic engine parts, add specific parts; i.e. Batteries, alternators, starters, spark plugs, fuel injectors, etc. Then have each of these parts effect some aspect of the vehicles functionality. Keeping the car in good repair could give you better gas mileage, quieter running, better handling, faster acceleration, or simply starting up on the first try. Imagine having to try a few times to start your car when a is horde chasing you. I also think that the little UI showing vehicle conditions should be done away with, replace it instead with an inspection via the action menu, or give visual and auditory cues to problems. So lets say a tire is damaged, rather than having it show up as damaged in a menu, make it so the car rides lower on that corner or so the tire look worn. If your engine is damaged, have it sound a bit rough, add a tick or make it cough while idling. I've read a few ideas for skills based upon how you play your toon being added, though I prefer the idea of having it, and everything else, be based upon the players attention to details and knowledge/expertise. Though this would be harder to implement, so perhaps some balance between the two could be struck. The fact is some people are better at driving than others, just as some are better shots, so why not make it to where medicine, auto repair, gear maintenance, hunting, etceteras also require a degree of skill or specialized knowledge of the player. It would add a degree of communal importance to your character that would make them more valuable than the sum of their gear. It adds the potential for the quintessential "Is anybody a doctor, we need a doctor here!" scene to the game. Side note, cars really don't tend to explode when they break down let alone when they crash. This should really be removed. By all means, you should be able to total a car, damaging it beyond repair, but enough of the fiery explosions. As fond of horses as I am, i don't see them working. Of all the games I've played with horses, Red Dead Redemption did them best, and they were still a pain, and that was just as a vehicle, without the added feeding and medical requirements you know DayZ would have. Lets see how well dogs work first, eh? While there may be an argument for removing some of the fuel stations around the map (which would increase the traffic, and thereby the risk, at those remaining), I think having it eventually run out would ruin the game. Giving the tanks a "daily limit" of how much fuel can be pumped could work, but I'm not sure if it would improve anything and would definitely discourage casual players. Though adding in some form of mass fuel storage device at camps could be interesting. A fuel trailer or a big metal drum that could be placed, filled and pumped from, or something like that.

    Need *Experienced* players

What kind of servers do you play on? Currently I'm sticking to 1st person only expert servers with full day/night cycle on a private whitelist hive. I play cautiously and always scout an area before entering. Been playing since early release before it blew up and became massively popular. If you want to join me and watch each others back while sneaking into exclusive rare loot areas, repair vehicles, and survive send me a message. I play lone wolf 99% of the time, however last time I teamed up we got endgame gear in a short amount of time without turning to banditry all on a public server. Both had motor bikes, camp full of vehicles and tents with weapons. We ended that playthrough by riding our bikes into NWAF during the day and driving around the airstrip until we were killed. Ended mainly due to admin abuse on the server. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gW5ZQUlWvkI
  16. With the advent of DayZ version 1.7.5.1, there has been a lot of argument over whether or not the update solves any problems of DayZ. One of the problems that someone is almost certain to bring up is the so-called "KoS Problem". I'm going to retain a neutral standpoint on this issue to try and eliminate some bias for the reader. Some people say, "The new spawn system and way that [zombies] swarm makes it so there is no reason to shoot the [zombies]". Other people cheer, "[These] new difficulties sound great...[they are] exactly what I'm looking for in this game". This is in regard to zombies being changed for better or worse. Only a fool would say that removing zombies entirely would be beneficial to the game, as DayZ is built around the idea of a "Zombie Survival" genre. The way I see it, there are 3 conflicts in DayZ: Player Versus Environment Simple enough, this category is the most encompassing, and makes the game a "survival" type game. This includes water, weather, disease, height, terrain, obstacles, blood, food, temperature, etc. This also includes the struggle for resources like food, water, weaponry, ammunition, and other items spawned by the game (not player dropped). I would argue that this category is the most important, as it defines 100% of the time you play the game and requires the most attention. Any action you perform in the game will depend on the environment Player Versus Player This category is by leaps and bounds the most talked about, and it helps to add a significant amount of challenge into the game. It also is very important as it creates competition for resources, adds fun and entertainment, and keeps the game fresh and new every time you play it. This includes killing other players, banditry, competition for loot, competition for vehicles, following players, taking resources off of dead players, giving blood, giving assistance, interaction over chat, and any and all interaction between two players. This category is hard to make generalizations with, as it is the most variable between player depending on how they view other players and their style of gameplay. Most of the time, this category defines around 5-45% of the time you play. Player Versus Zombie Unique to DayZ, this category is quite popular to debate and distinctly separates DayZ from any other game. This category includes killing zombies, being killed by zombies, interaction with zombies, the "Ear" and "Eye" indicators on your HUD, any movement, any decisions made that are influenced by the presence of zombies, I'm focusing on the Player Versus Player category, and killing on sight comes up often in Player Versus Player conflicts. I've come up with, in my humble opinion, a pretty complete list of why exactly players kill on sight. -Little to be gained from contact with other player -High risk of death from contact -Choose one: High reward for high risk (Killing on Sight and taking their gear) or Low reward for high risk (making contact and possibly trading) -Not being able to trust someone you've just met -Lack of time (if you only have 1 hour to play then you are not generally going to try to make long lasting alliances) -High entertainment value -Competition for loot and resources -Main risk in game (makes players want to "beat the game" by beating the biggest risk) -Zombies don't pose enough of a threat to force teamwork and cooperation Now I'm merely trying to explain why people Kill on Sight, not saying that DayZ needs to have loot piles paving the streets, zombies that see you from 10 miles away and can kill in one hit, or players invincible to other player's damage. I'm trying to say that PvP is a necessary part of the game and that removing it or limiting it will destroy a fundamental challenge. Killing on Sight is simply a natural behavior that people will do for the above reasons. Killing on Sight can't be fixed by changing the game. You need to change the player to stop Killing on Sight. If you don't kill on sight, if you try to make contact first, if you try to change yourselsf, other people will change along with you. My hope with this post is that people will change their habits to create a more interesting, varied, and fun experience with other players in DayZ.
  17. Soon I will be hosting a new server. This will be a private hive server with a custom vehicle spawns and. New non-dayz vehicles will be added. 150+ vehicles is about what I am thinking. This is a 30 slot server to start and if I get a steady player base I will upgrade. Also there is a chance it could be whitelisted in the future. I am taking donations to get the server running. With a $5 donation to the launch of the server you will receive a one of a kind loadout! $7 will get you a pick and choose loadout up to 15 items.(now of course no as50's, and over powered items). So if you are interested please contact me on skype: ismithh2121
  18. So I've had enough. I think you should know the reasons. Maybe you can feed them into improvements to the game. Close quarter combat is bugged, flawed and weak. - Shouldn't have to "reload" a melee weapon. It makes absolutely no sense. - There should at least be some support for unarmed combat. - There needs to be more melee weapons. - There needs to be more silent weapons. Crossbow bolts should be recoverable. - Zombies attack by having a fit in front of you. Usually this has no effect. Sometimes you'll fall unconcious. Sometimes you'll die instantly. It's all too random. How can I defend against random? Underlying all this there's a crucial problem. The ARMA 2 engine is a warfare simulator. The vast majority of this warfare takes place using ranged weapons. But zombies attack with melee (ie fists/claws). The ARMA 2 engine doesn't seem to be up to the job of "simulating" close quarter combat, which makes sense really, that's not what it was designed to do. The blood system is flawed. I'm sure that a lot of the other bugs influence this. Maybe once they're ironed out the blood system will become more acceptable. Backpacks are bugged and clunky. Why do I have to "open" a backpack to see what's in it? Just show me all the slots I have available. Make it dynamic based on the container type. Because you can't store a weapon in the backpack whgen you first spawn, and because you can't (easily) keep an axe and a gun at the same time, I find that my first objective is to find a backpack that's large enough to hold a gun. This seems like something I shouldn't be doing. The survival element is flawed/pointless. I've never once needed to build a fire and cook meat. And I've never once found all the parts needed to do this. If this (building fires and cooking) is a priority then it should be easier to find the resources to do it, and there should be more pressure to do it (ie less tinned food). Night isn't worth bothering with. It really isn't. Unless you have night vision goggles. In which case, why bother? If you like playing at night but your favourite server insists on playing daylight hours then simply turn off your monitor for the same realistic effect. Hackers. They really spoil a server. This isn't solely limited to DayZ, ARMA 2 has the same problem, but when you've spent a few days trying to build a character, only to have some l33t haxor explose the whole map, it kind of sucks. There should be more vehicles. I know this is dependent on the server and I know clans often horde vehicles for themselves. Still I've never played on a server and been overwhelmed by the availability of vehicles. There's no purpose to the game. Yeah yeah I know. Before you hit the flame key I know it's an open sandbox game. Unfortunately, because there's nothing really to do, it becomes a crude capitalism simulator. People become bandits because there's nothing to do and they take your stuff because only objects have value. There isn't the sense of cooperation you get in Left For Dead where you really feel as though you need to band together to survive the zombie horde. In this game you just need to band together so you can steal other peoples stuff. I suppose an interesting question to ask would be: Why would I want to kill zombies (other than "Aaargh get it off me")? Perhaps they could have a value that's tradable. Perhaps they could destroy player built defenses. Maybe zombies need to survive somehow too, eg capture a town, so there's actualy conflict between players needing to hold a town and zombies needing to hold a town. Who knows. Oh and I don't know if i'm winning, or if another player is a good player. Some engrossing game statistics would be good. A lot of the replies will probably be in the form of "dude it's a military simulator, it's ultra realistic, If you don't like it go back to Call Of Duty". Hmm. Well the game already takes many short cuts, such as allowing people to magically draw on my map even though they're thousands of miles away. Or telling me what town I'm in at the start. Or letting me open a tin of food without a tin opener. Or letting me fire weapons and drive vehicles that I've probably never been trained on. The point is you shouldn't let realism get in the way of fun. This should apply doubly so in a zombie game. Which, lets be honest, is just a bit of fun. Oh I like the fact that you can transfer characters between servers. This is pretty awesome. Anyway. I sound like a Debbie Downer and I don't want to. DayZ is a really original idea and I'd love to see it evolve into something more playable.
  19. Hey Everyone! Nimzy here from The New Republic! I would like to invite you to come play on our server! Just search for www.tnrclan.com in the filter and you'll find it! We have unique vehicles and weapons! I wont tell you what they are but you'll have to come and find out what they are!

    Towing Cars

It would really only make it easier for lone players. If there's a group, it would be way easier and safer for a person to get out of the current vehicle and drive the new one. Anyways, while we're talking about moving vehicles, I'd like to suggest pushing cars, both repaired and destroyed, so I can do things like this (skip to 1:20): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga_r6AGZ2eU
  21. Jeremiah Cross

    Towing Cars

Hoarding cars is already easy. Hell, I mainly play solo and I have two. If you have 2 people all you need to do is drive around, find a car and convoy back to base. Adding a tow rope just levels the field a bit for solo players. If they made it so cars didn't explode in water (which BTW they don't) you could use this to tow a stuck car out. Helicopters are already pretty cheap as is. I met a guy who used to just fly around with his clan looking for camps, steal all their gear and vehicles, then wreck the camp. I think heli's should be removed completely. I mean really, show of hands; if the Zombie Apocalypse happened tomorrow, how many of you could fix a wrecked helicopter and fly it away?
  22. lipemr

    Towing Cars

well, you're the one provoking me with matters of other topics, not me. If you had to play 200 hours to find a damn car, why you want to make hoarding more viable? there's just no logic there dude. It would make everyone's life harder on the game just for the sake of bigger groups hoarding the vehicles.
  23. Rutch

    Towing Cars

It's possible to tow vehicles in real life, so why is it suddenly stupid in Dayz? They'd have to nerf it extremely though. The towing in wasteland mod is and looks stupid, it should actually be towed, not nailed to your car. Towed vehicles should also have an hitbox, so driving while having a vehicle towed to you will be harder.
  24. Good job re-railing the conversation. It's easy to get lost out there. I wouldn't mind microskills but I feel that they aren't that much of a selling point for most people. I feel that most people would apprechiate as feature-rich experience as possible. Spraying clan tags to buildings & trees, doing proper traps, allowing us to build barricades, customize vehicles mad-max style etc. Who knows what rocket has in store for us :) I think it's riiiight about there: Yeah, right. I think we're done here
  25. lipemr

    Towing Cars

by clans i mean large groups too, 3~4 people could hoard a dozen of vehicles if they want to. There's no point in favoring who already have a car, to get more cars.
