I expect there will be more threads coming with people suggesting features from Origins. Frankie's latest series of DayZ videos involve him doing a bunch of stuff with the custom vehicles, the NPCs, and the player made structures. Since his videos routinely get in excess of 1 million views, I expect there's going to be a lot of players who are suddenly going to like a least some of what they see. -

Thats an opinion not a fact. Minecraft? Any MMO with crafting? Oh you mean the need for food and water right? The things that are so abundant that people are surprised when they starve to death. Also i have trouble finding servers with even 30 players in that isn't 500+vehicles and starting gear, if you have one could you share it as i would love to play it (i mean it i long for crowded firefights in cities and not jumping at the tumbleweeds) -

I dont understand why the stand alone has to be much different (according to some people's post on here) then the current version of the mod. As far as I followed the dev blogs there are changes compared to the mod (character customization, clothing, more buildings, crafting) plus they're will be patches after release which should add more options to the game. I'd be quite happy if they kept all the bollox 200+ vehicles/start with an m1a1 abrahamstank or A10 plane servers out of the picture. These servers arent what DayZ was intended to be as far as I know. Do the WoW thing and do everything central server side without all the crap. The people who don't like it will stay away... I kinda like that idea.. -
I think the Standalone will be fantastic, no matter what the other threads say.

We had a friendly helpful team that was more than willing to help out newcomers. We kept a constant eye on our logs for hackers and had an active presence on the server daily. I did manage the servers additions and scripts personally, so requests and general improvement ideas were always welcome. As for our admins, they had limited power (bans/log access only), the main idea is to have eyes on whenever possible to keep the server free of scripters. One of the reasons I chose to start this server was based on some bad experiences with hackers and admin abuse, and it happen'd again on my server. So instead of wasting more of my fucking time, i'm just going to shut it down. To all the players that joined our little server for its short life I thank you and tell you that it was an honer to have you :).

Well I was just meaning gear on the player, not so much the vehicles/tents side of it otherwise the list is endless lol. Yeah I agree that NVGs, Rangefinders, and GPS is missing from the loadout, but in Breaking Point they do seem very rare, if even in the mod at all. I've come across a GPS in a barracks but only once.

This kid was alright at first, but what we didn't know is that he was secretly giving him and his little group info on where me and my buddy set up camp which was a couple thousand meters away from the "Admin Camp" which was really just a few buildings here and there. After about 2-3 days him and his little buddies raid our camp while we're gone and we finally get back to find them guarding it, which wouldn't be a big deal if they didn't have attack choppers spawned by the admins, and the missiles worked completely. He destroyed camp, continued to talk smack over side and eventually banned us for being "meanies" for killing one of his men. The "Admin" actually even took one of these choppers away from us because we found it on NW airfield, and left us stranded thousands of meters from base. These pricks will stalk you, (AND this kid has his admin panel up the entire time, CONSTANTLY doing unwarned restarts and spawning more of these illegal vehicles and telling the rest of the server where we were) and take everything you have (which again is part of the game) but the fact that we were bombarded by attack helicopter missiles? And that the entire time all they do is talk shit to people on side and completely disregard their number one rule: "RESPECT ALL PLAYERS AND ADMINS" "(Adept)Trobstar" "Travis" "(BRU)Loco" (2 more with the "BRU" tag) and the (CREDZ) tag were pretty much the only people ever on this server and they're all buddy buddy. Now we know why it's only ever them. -
I doubt the damage will be remade, too much work and too different, would be delighted if so. Yup, the area seems quite highly militarized, but it's not the US where .50 caliber rifles are issued to troops and you have civilians owning them. Yes the military has vehicles and logistical support which gives these rifles a place, but survivors in Chernarus... The most they'd ever have to face off against would be a few guys in a Ural, and a PKM or an AK could deal with those easily (okay, maybe a Huey, too, but I don't think the Huey should be in the game). If they wanted something for anti-vehicular purposes, or anti-building, or just "big explosion", they'd take one of the many thousands of RPG launchers you'd find in such places and some rockets to go with it. I'd honestly rather see a Dushka on the back of a truck... it just makes more sense to me, seems more likely to be found, and if you already a vehicle capable of mounting one on, why not? Not to say you'd never ever see any fifty-cal rifles, but they'd be so rare compared to other weapons it wouldn't be worth including, and I don't see a random hill-wandering survivor deciding to carry one if the DayZ situation was real - it's such overkill it would actually be a far, far, far worse rifle outside of specialized situations. I don't have anything against them in terms of killing power, balancing or "unfairness" (except for the AS50 magically doing nearly 5 times as much damage as an M107, what's with that?), it's just that I find them out of place.

ok, maybe 1000m is exaggerated (maybe 500m is good). Elevation and topography should play a role in it as well ( if technically feasible). I wouldn't expect them to run to the exact spot where the shot came from but at least run in frenzied mode until they were within 100m of it, then start searching the area. the problem in the mod is zombies only spawn near towns and buildings and only when other players are near. server-side zombies couple with random wilderness ones would increase the likelihood of drawing attention. the main point i am trying to make is if loud noise, be it gunshots, vehicles, explosions, etc..., were to be a much more dangerous thing to survivors, sniping would be much riskier and less likely. Note: In The Walking dead when the helicopter flying over a city causes the entire zombie population to migrate in the direction it flew (but on a much smaller scale) is what i see being cool gameplay. imagine crossing a field and seeing hundreds of infected trudging out of the field opposite the one you just entered. -
Standalone balance and snipers

You forget that due to the high militerized nature of the area, formor Militery person could easily common place, and for the weight issue: doesn't the Militery Carry all the extra ammo and weapons in vehicles around rather than carrying them? And for the damage system, dayz is its own game now and can be made with a better damage system. -
This is going to be my standard pros-and-cons format. If you feel the ensuing paragraph will incite a tl;dr response, just scroll down. So I was taking a shower a few minutes ago, and naturally thought about DayZ, and what might make it better. I got to thinking about how the new PhysX in A3 are fanfreakingtastic! and how they could apply to more than vehicles and ragdolls. But what exactly would I like to see PhysX used for? I'm sorry if this idea has been suggested already; I'm sure just about everything already has: Doors. On cars and buildings. Seriously, I hate scroll-wheeling a door open. A2 is already jittery enough when it comes to buildings that I can hardly walk up to the damn things, let alone quickly scroll-wheel enter (changed now to scroll-wheel space, A3!!) during a firefight or whilst chased by the infected. Here is my proposal for building doors: Players should be able to walk into a door and "Push" it open, causing their gun to lower or their shoulder to come up, or something to that effect. Using this, doors could be barricaded against the undead, who would have to *push* the door open instead of clipping through it. Items could be pushed in front of the door, such as tables. The more zombies stacked against the door, the more barricading required. PROS: Reinforceable doors Simpler/more convenient ways of entering/exiting a building KHANS: Glitchy PhysX/server lag could result in instant death via door collision Unforeseeable glitches to effectively make a building "Zombie proof," IE barricade the doors through dishonest measures, such as false-positive hit box detection seen in other "Survival" games (namely, Nazi Zombies and Project Zomboid, though they don't use PhysX) Past buildings, I would very much enjoy some sort of GTA IV-esque "You failed to close the door" flopping during high-speed turns and chases. Damage inflicted to the door (zombie hits?) or specific parts of the door (shooting the lock/handle) could result in doors flopping open. Maybe in this way, doors could be opened and used for cover for .45 and smaller pistols? PROS: More realistic doors; you now have to deal with a flaming engine AND doors that swing open/closed uncontrollably If you shoot at a car and miss the driver, you can at least feel good knowing you messed up his door! Easier to tell if the zombie outside your window is actually damaging you or not if your car door is opened CONS: More strain on low-medium end PCs, now having to deal with PhysX doors Coming to a sudden stop to make your doors fly open could make killing zombies a lot less challenging (think of zombie land's method of swerve-and-open-door) Not really necessary to improving overall game quality Faulty coding hitbox detection between bullets/the door/the car/the part of the door that must be damaged/et cetera can cause the well-known "What the fvck?" reaction of Halo titles, Gmod, and other such games where two items touch, then suddenly going flying into the sun, killing everything nearby

I was an admin for a server for a good amount of time. We had switched over to the taviana map and at the time there were a totale of three admins on. I have this thing where I would iether help people or hide in a corner and just watch the reconing map or try to prempt hackers. But with the three admins on, I would go into "Bandit Mode" Like this, the entire play style of server changed. People would stop being stupid and actuly think as they moved around the map. Another Admin buddy of mine wanted to come with me. The other one was pulling full duty as I shut down the other monitor and I could just play the game. Like this, we dropped Every thing we had on us in a tent we had and then ran out from there, picking stuff up as we went. This was fun as I geared up along the way. Being as I knew the locations of vehicles we avoided them and did not included them in out looting. We had killed a few players at this point when we had made our way to an airport and there was a C-130. Being as I am a pretty good pilot and can land then, my buddy said lets go find a city to hit. So we took off and flew around at about 225 kh, nearly stall speed till we saw zombies in a city. I did one pass and let him air drop out. At this point I flew out over the ocean and gunned it to max speed, attempted to line up with the castle and then go into town but missed it on the small circle I did. So I had to do another pass. This time I made it but ejected just over the wall of the castle and then let the place do its own thing with no pilot. I landed safely and the weapon I was using was a CZ550 as my friend and picked up 240. From the distance, I scoped out the city and determined that our target was in the grociery store. My friend was coming from the south and I was coming from the west. 800 meters later and 200 meters from the window into the store I couldn't see the target but I could see the zombies. With my friend in position he asked for me to ome around from the north side and shoot at the building. We were hoping to get him to spook and do something stupid. During this realinment, I closed to with in 50 meters of the north wall of the store. At this point My friend and I both here a gun shot. Not sure what the player was shooting at, I took it as an oppertunity to shoot the building to spook him. At this point I then returned to my previous positon of 200 meters out so I could see into the store from the windows. We waited for a bit and the guy never came out but the zombies were there. What the guy was doing was low cralwing just below what I could see. He had moved to the corner of the store closes to the windows but alone the back wall from the entrance. The Zombies started to glitch attack him through the wall. He Got up and I shot him. This entire time my friend and I were like this was one wierd scenerio. A minute later we found out what was realy going on. The Other admin was telling the guy our positions and what we were doing. The guy had gotten so scared, he had fired off a shot on accident, giving his location away. Most would think this was messed up, I would agree, but it was so funny that we couldn't hold any thing against the admin. And the rest of the TS server had a blast listening to the ordeal. The Guy had freaked out so badly he at the end just commited suicide and wanted to get it over with instead of being hunted like a rat trapped in a maze. Also as a afterthought. There were three people in the city I was circling. But bcuase I circled so many times, they were getting out of dodge. The plane it self, landed 1.8 km from where I had ejected out of it, and had missed one guy who was running for his life in the woods by only 30 meters. According to both the reconing map and his own telling of the story. Oh so close to an epic kill. A little bit of splash damamge would have done the trick!

Molotovs could be pretty cool but I imagine would take a ton of work to make properly. Also they seem pretty ineffective in most cases, remember the fuel has to splash all over someone to kill them and it will usually splash mostly on the ground. In WW2 these were used mostly against tanks to try to set vital parts or the fuel lines on fire, not against infantry. They can still be effective if a tank hatch is left open... they could be used to set vehicles alight and ruin them. Same for people hiding in places that can be set on fire. Look at this video (30 seconds in), they don't seem too effective against individual people outside, they seem to be more useful if people are inside something flammable, such as a vehicle or a room to drive them out of.

[OsG] is introducing a DayZ server with Rmod enabled. We have custom vehicles in at the moment but we are bringing an orginal idea to the plate to add more of a thrill to the DayZ atmosphere. Hey, making a new forum post due to the server changes! We have gotten great response from the players and looks like we are getting a whole lot of regulars which is really good considering that the server hasnt been up for very long. Today we broke the server record! a whole (15 players) woohooo! I'm still looking for more players to the server ofcourse going from forum to forum and posting, staying active. I made this server because I was taunted repeatedly by abusive admins and hackers. I want my friends and family to have a legit place to play Day Z without wasting all of their game time only to be banned or killed for stupid reasons. If your sick of childish or inactive admins, hackers, or unstoppable bandit clans come to our server! We have a friendly helpful admin team that is more than willing to teach newcomers. You have direct contact with admins via facebook. We keep a constant eye on our logs for hackers and keep an active presence on the server daily. Code ideas, requests, and general improvement suggestions are always welcome. We have full moon nights, and are adding custom buildings and towns based on reasonable user request. ;p There are 175 vehicles so they are reasonably common for you motor heads, there's a decent amount of Helicopters too, roughly 6-8 variants spawned with random conditions.
