    Auto-run button.

    I'm not sure what kind of DayZ you play, but in my DayZ I dont just click W and sit back because I allways look around for other players or anything. Prove me wrong, but I bet you are one of these guys that play either some Epoch/Origins -whatever Mod or you play on one of this "self BB" "auto-refuel" "repair-stations" "1000 choppers" "∞ vehicles" -Servers, because I cant imagine anyone would just click this automove button and sit back to run into the next bandit, when they have to fear about their character (what happens mostly only in normal DayZ). Because when you dont even have to pull down this button you totaly lose focus on your game/character.
  2. I wanted to test the off-road speed of the bicycle compared to a couple motorized vehicles. Chose sedan and offroad because I seem to run across those the most. Cross-country test Distance: 5.3 km This course was about 60% offroad (orange), 25% on a dirt road (yellow) and 15% on a paved road (green). Results: Military Offroad: 6:50 = average speed 47 km/h Old Bike: 7:20 = average speed 44 km/h Sedan 11:30 = average speed 28 km/h On the off-road portions, the bike was slightly faster than the military offroad and far faster than the sedan. The paved road portion allowed the offroad to surpass the bike, arriving 30 seconds earlier Paved road test Distance: 7.1 km This course was on a paved road the entire distance (green). Results: Military Offroad 4:00 = 107 km/h Sedan 4:20 = 98 km/h Old Bike 8:10= 52 km/h As expected the military offroad and sedan were far faster than the bike. The bike was actually 50 seconds slower than it was when it took the as-the-crow-flies cross-country route. Forest test Distance: 1.0 km This test was almost entirely in dense forest (red), downhill and then uphill. Results: Old Bike 2:10 = 28 km/h Military Offroad 4:40 = 13 km/h Sedan 6:30 = 9 km/h The bike left both the military offroad and sedan in the dust, with an average speed over 2x as fast as the offroad and over 3x as fast as the sedan. One important thing to note - in DayZ, roads are frequently blocked by wrecks and other debris. The cars would not have achieved as high average speeds with that junk all over the place. The bicycle is clearly the best choice for solo players, it's damn fast but mainly it doesn't alert everyone within a kilometer since you can't close a door or start an engine. Quiet. Cars are only good for storing stuff and ferrying people. Cars get you killed. :ph34r:
  3. If you're up for a little challenge this weekend then why not pop along to our Epoch server and see if you can track down and hijack the admin convoy. We could be anywhere on the map, our convoy will consist of 1 ural (full of loot, including gold and building materials), 1 armoured SUV, a little bird for air support and possibly one or two other smaller ground support vehicles. All vehicles in the convoy will be lockable and have one key left in the trunk so when you capture it, its yours, so try not to destroy them in the process ;) The rules are simple: Get geared up then track us down and see if you can take the loot. Now is a good time to join the server, it's pretty quiet, use this time to find what you need for the event, so you're ready when it starts :) Just in case you were wondering, when one convoy is successfully captured, myself and the other admins will regroup at our secret base and start another convoy.     Bicycle master race

    I only clicked this thread because I thought we were going to be talking about how great cyclists are and how motorists are the devil. Damn. But I stayed because while I rarely use vehicles in DayZ, when I do, the bike is number 1 in my list. Silent and easy(ish) to hide. Great info btw! :)

    This makes me mad. There are tons of public hive servers, from France to the UK to the US that have 50 players average a day, I don't know why people keep saying there are no vanilla servers. Its like you don't even look. All public hives are 100% vanilla (though I saw one with 50% more vehicles once).
  7. I have watched Walking Dead. If we used your mentality we would have who as survivors? Let's see... Season 1.... Lets see... Either Rick shoots Morgan on sight or the other way around. We assume Rick survives. In that case Glen sees him surrounded by Walkers in Atlanta and lets him die, or despite being surrounded by walkers Rick shoots Glen. Of course Andrea and crew would have then shot Rick or maybe the other way around? Hmmmm... They would have shot the "gangbangers" from the nursing home... or... Dale would have shot Rick when he wandered towards the Camp or vise versa... Yeah... totally falling apart from episode 2 on with a KoS attitude. Then we hit Season 2... Darryl should have killed most of the group by now, if not Shane. Instead Carl gets accidentally shot and instead of shooting the armed guy they follow him to his base. Again they don't shoot him or Hershal's group. Really they should have shot them all and taking their stuff, right? Newbs leading them to their base. Ah, but then Carl is dead, and Maggie, and nearly everyone else. Maggie should have lured Glen into the city and shot him while he was looting, or maybe the other way around. I mean both groups had vehicles, guns, food, medical supplies. Oh, but then again all the people Rick actually wants around would be dead. Carl would have died, Lori... well she did die in Season 3 but their baby would have died right away. Season 3 we find prisoners and while one actually did try and kill Rick another wasn't really until he was cast out with nothing to fend for himself at which point he became a KoS bandit and was killed. Sure he was a total ass who got a bunch of other people killed, but it didn't do him any good. Andrea wouldn't even be in Season 3 because Michonne clearly had the drop on her and Andrea had a big bag of guns to take. Stating Walking Dead supports KoS mentality is the HEIGHT of stupidity. About the dumbest argument you could make because Rick's group only makes it as far as they do watching each others backs and because they judiciously bring new people into their group because they DIDN'T SHOOT THEM ON SIGHT!

    How dayz has change

    I wonder when you started playing Day Z. A couple of things in your post just dont add up to me... When day z first come out you spawned with a Revolver. After that it was changed to a Makarov. That was universal as all servers had the same load out gear on the main hive. I wonder why you got so hyped finding a gun which your own superseded or you already spawned with???? Also when I first started playing (pretty much at launch) you were constantly tripping over players as there were only a handful of servers and you had to wait to get on them. Once you did you had to fight your way off the coast as people would kill new spawns for their beanz! Things "went down hill" when a wave of hipsters got wind of this awesome mod and the steam summer sale brought ARMA 2 CO down to a very cheap price and with popularity came the inevitable hackers. From there and borne out of frustration private hives were introduced, which of course led to some servers going over kill on stuff that were previously locked down, such as having too many vehicles or high value spawn locations. Also this naturally led to otehr versions of dayz which diluted the community and fragmented it to various While these were necessary to save the mod and fight back, they introduced more problems than they resolved. Naturally the hipster crowds moved on to the latest new 5 minute wonder on Reddit and private hives because a lot more bearable but by which time Pandoras box has been opened now and Day Z mod (dont forget this is just the mod and not the full game) has naturally developed into some awesome "flavours". Again some of the issues you have a problem with are server specific and not necessarily a problem with the mod as a whole. I think I would be more worried and Day Z would be in far more trouble if it didnt develop at all, the stand alone game wasnt in production and we were alls till playing on 5 or 6 servers personally.

    uh... 3000 redone zombies instead of 500 buggy half arma soldier zombies who dodge bullets and clip thru walls, crafting system, clothing, weapon attachments, yes upped graphics, redone and expanded chernarus, 90-95% enterable buildings, over thousand of new items yes I mean over thousand as "over thousand" and not just as an example, rocket has informed theres a list of thousands of different items, Hud revamped, game mechanics changed, redone vehicles, remade health system, a ton more player interaction encouraging things to do. Should I Keep on going? think whatever you like but thats a different project from what we had in 2012, nuff said! It is a different project even if it shares the same name, the project1 was supposed to be just a repackacked polished mod in a box. This thing is going to be what Rocket wanted in the first place. project2 is everything i mentioned earlier on this post. Its a different game, face the facts or live in denial. :)

Not Ambience :( ) Hey guys, TIC here and I thought of something that could be great for the ambiance of a post apocalyptic environment for either day or night for the DayZ Standalone. Here's what I had in mind.. Enhances lighting for night time, could provide some visibility for survivors who do not have equipment like NVGs or a flashlight.Possibility of eating larvae that lies in plants or on the ground; won't fill hunger too much but always good protein ;)Could be captured in some type of glass jar to emit lighting around the survivor. Shooting Stars/Jet Contrails/Fog (Relates to lighting/observation) Currently in the ARMA series, the stars have been the least worked on in my opinion. rocket2gunsRocket 106 points A high resolution texture, even at 4k, will not achieve the current fidelity of the stars. The current stars are actually generated at points using the real location of the star at the maps set lat/lon. So there is not really a skybox at night, just a swarm of vert's that generate what looks like a star. What we could probably work is making the stars look a bit better. (Source: Reddit. Click on the underline text to see the context/discussion) I don't really see a purpose of bulleting ideas since the only thing I could think of is that they'd be quite amazing to see while looking at the sky Contrail: Possibility of spotting one in an occasion in the sky. I only assumed if the whole world wasn't entirely infected with zombies. Fog:I am not sure if fog is confirmed for SA but this would be really nice to have. More Sounds During The Day/Night (For audio quality improvements) I have noticed that there isn't much sound during the night like there is in the day (birds chirping) .. (In example is being the woodpecker in the video) This could possibly bring tension while being cautious for zombies.Perhaps these animals should be included in the game for the sounds to have more of an effect?Depending on the environment; the sounds can mask your sounds against roaming zombies or players which can give you a chance to navigate safer at night without being hear.Winds blowing in the trees.Rain should sound different depending on the type of material it's hitting on (Tin roofs, tent, wood, etc) Auroras Definition: An aurora is a natural light display in the sky particularly in the high latitude (Arctic and Antarctic) regions, caused by the collision of energetic charged particles with atoms in the high altitude atmosphere (thermosphere). Nuclear Winter (Atomic Winter) Definition(Shared by Applejaxc): One major concern of a nuclear war for countries not hit my the weapons themselves is that all the dust, ash, and debris kicked up into the atmosphere would act not unlike a permanent "cloudy day," blocking most of the sun's rays and lowering the earth's temperature. IN all likelihood such an event wouldn't drop the global temperature very much, but it would definitely be a big enough concern if you're "downwind" (so to speak) from where bombs fell, able to make up for if not surpass light pollution in a developing nation like Chernarus.   13. Hello Guys and Gals Well a very frustrating night on a server with Admins that use map hacks to find you and log you out to be able to creep up on you!!! My team of 6 regualr players ( we just put in 100+ hours in 7 days on UK 367 before the Admins cheating) are looking for an unmodified Original Dayz Server, No extras Vehicles weapons or loot points just standard orignianl homely lovely DayZ!!!!. Please can we have some suggestions where Admins dont auto kill you because you have them pinned in a barn, or no loot hackers that use Admin maps to find your vehicles!! Looking forward to your replies Jonnychaos

    Well... when i first started playing, you spawned with a pistol, the servers ran night cycles, the admins didnt know how to switch em off.. no one had nvgs o course (heli crashes were a mythical phenomenon) So it was flares and chem lights... there was still shit loads o KoS mind, and people would use the flares as weapons, because the Z's would swarm to them, so if yah saw some one enter a house, all yah had to do was throw a flare in the door way, and wait for him to run outta ammo (no melee weapons) I recall there being friendly players... but i still come across em now, there were zero vehicles for quite a while (they got taken out because o a desync bug with em, causing them to kill players etc , and didnt get added back in till much later) It also could literally take 30mins for your character to load... and normally did. When they added tents in, they were player killing machines! i remember the early game differently than many... i played the shit outta it still, and loved every minute. At the moment im loving arma 3 breaking point, it will get stale too with time, it has nothing to do with the player base mind. Its just the way us humans work, familiarity breeds contempt. I had a go at the vanilla mod a few times, and i like what razor has done with it... it would be way better than it was, if it had packed servers. Its still fun mind.

    I don't think this thread will receive a warm welcome, but I'll bite. I agree. The old feel of DayZ is long lost. It's only present to new players of the game now, and only for a few weeks at most. There are far too many servers offering 5,000 Vehicles, self-bloodbagging, uber-awesome no-scopez pvp with 200x loot spawn and 100x military loot. And even if you do manage to find a good vanilla server, you seriously suffer from shamefully low populations to a point that you don't even want to play on them, because the only thing you ever encounter is zombies. Also, the player base itself has dramatically changed. You used to be able to count on the occasional friendly encounter. Hell. It's how I met my current circle of gaming friends. Now, you can usually count on a bullet to the brain. Saddest thing is that people nowadays embrace this playstyle and it has become taboo to do anything else. Last time I played, I was with a group of people I barely knew, and refused to kill an unarmed survivor. I was promptly criticized and labeled a 'pussy' by them. I booted them from my teamspeak and said good riddance. I feel the pain.

This is not one of these servers that just use the newest dayz patch, add rmod and 'advertise' it as a custom mod.No, it's way more. The admin team is very active and helpful, never had any problems with hackers there and the whole mod is made for pvp, without throwing around with high military loot to make it feel like CoD. It's an awesome, hardcore adventure made for the experienced dayz players out there. First person only, no waypoints (only in helicopters) It's a german community, but the only allowed language on both the forums and the servers is english. So you won't have to deal with german all day long! You can also add supressors, holo scopes, grenade launchers and more! - new weapons like the hk417, the as val, m1, m21, m14 variants and more! -a lot of new skins Brown Ghillies, Dark Ghillies, Bright Ghillies, Special Forces, US Marine, Commander and more - custom map locations Devil's Castle is completely reworked. A bandit clan (bot's) are protecting it and loot is awaiting the one's that clear it! Next to vybor is a small military camp Stary Sobor is completely reworked The NEAF and the NWAF got their own stuff - custom crafting system You cannot only add attachments to your weapons, you can also craft backpacks, tents, weapon chests (like a tent, just easier to hide) compasses and more. - random crashsites and more - a statistic database (http://www.stats.tim-dayz.eu/) Are you looking for a first person server?   17. Epoch currently has this system. It is an annoyance and pretty awesome all in one. In Epoch they bumped up the size of the backpacks and got rid of things like Main Rotors and Engine Parts taking up extra slots. So you could literally put 60 Main Rotars in your backpack in Epoch... Then take a couple steps and pass out from the strain. What tends to happen is the extra slots get used up on light weight items(so to speak) like 1oz gold bars, bandages, and such. You tend to plan your running around based on where you will be and what you will be doing. It's all good and fine to carry 2 guns in Vanilla but when the extra weight for a second gun and second set of ammo can push you over a threshold so you get winded and exhausted faster It might not be worth it, especially if you are going somewhere to loot even more items and end up even heavier. You don't want to drive vehicles up to loot areas, but you want to pick locations that are nearby, with good cover to and from the area. So the construction site on the edge of Cherno means parking up on the hill to the East and running down into it. We then lug cinderblocks and such up to the vehicle and split up the weight between us. Even so just the short distance sometimes finds us doing a run from cover to cover with pauses where we catch our breath and let our hearbeat fade so we don't pass out.

    The thing that pisses me off the most is,that despite all vehicles are taken I rarely ever see or hear someone driving arround.

    I love fixing up vehicles. It's one activity in DayZ that has a clear finish line, a definite sense of achievement. It provides a reason to go looting, get into harm's way, that's not about just looking for a guy to kill. However, I do agree with the problems that vehicles present. Fixing up the vehicle is more fun to me than using it. To your point, it's all about rarity. Getting a vehicle or even seeing a vehicle pass by should be an "event". I'm glad the dev team is waiting to implement, starting from the ground up instead of porting over from the mod. So much stuff to rework.

    Why? I never understood this. DayZ mod was without vehicles for many extended periods throughout development, and people still played/enjoyed it. In the heyday of DayZ, vehicles weren't a given. I've spoken about this before, but vehicles (while fun and interesting) just make the map smaller for me. Granted, if I find a fully repaired truck in the woods you bet I'll be taking that sucker. But I've only been compelled to repair a vehicle from scratch perhaps once or twice. Likewise, vehicles compound the negative effect that sidechat and TS/Skype has on DayZ. Nobody gives a shit about getting killed when you can just instantly radio your buddies for a pick-up on the coast. I'm not against vehicles being included at all, but they have certain problems. Mostly having to do with how easy it is to repair and refuel them in the mod, and how difficult it is to actually hide vehicles. But there are systemic considerations which have to be brought to light. That and I think people having to walk everywhere for a good long while will add weight to survival and maybe stop how entitled people feel toward rides.

    the real funny thing about this stream was some of the questions and the replys :lol: game devs are always like polititions in response :D sacreil said alot of people are asking about vehicles ? reply = yeah one of the big ones is animals :lol: he didnt even pull him up on it. :P boneboys you warned KOS for just his opinion and what he said is mainly true and true of most youtubers like frankle and jack frogs and the like. anyone who does play it proerply and watches the stream no that most of it is bs and edited bs. i agree KOS didnt word it well :lol: but what alot of what he put is just true. team up with me when SA is out KOS well kill em all and ill video it ;)

  23. Went on a serious run for 2 nights. Spawn in with flares and some bandage...we were on foot for a good portion of it the 1st night. Looking for vehicles spawns and trying to...get this, SURVIVE. Bandits by nature and we had to do it the hard way. Creep around cause it's dark, zombies more ferocious (You will think twice before shooting in a town for real lol). Food,drink, and meds became important like a mofo. When's the last time you heard Banditos yelling OMG A BOAR. WE NEED THAT!!!!!! Weapons are not scarce, but they are not not plentiful either. Check out some more shots of the scenery (sorry no super fog shots, I was too mesmerized and trying to watch out for those Zeds!) BUT DAT FOG. When it kicks in for 10-20 minutes and you can see maybe 5-10 feet in front of you it redefines the game. Not so much where it's unbearable, but out of nowhere it picks up and then you're like WTF MAN! But enough of that, back to the beauty...

    The bugs of the alpha give DayZ some charm. It'll be fun squashing them and the reminiscing about how it was when it started. If the network and ultra basic functionality works (can connect to server, make a character, and die) then go ahead and release it. I can have fun playing the game I saw in the stream. It is janky, incomplete, and lame, but It has enough to be interesting. I think everyone should have to pass a test to get into the alpha. Question 1. What is the network bubble? a. wut? bubble? b.
