    Do you combat log?

    Yesterday, my two friends and me met a group of 3 people that just spawned, we pointed guns at each other, but since they screamed "don't shoot don't shoot", we let them pass. Then after a while they teamed up and attacked us, but since they failed, they cowardly combbatlogged and ghosted to our flank. 2 minutes and 20 mosinshots later, we had 5 m4s and some injuries more. So, no we do not combatlog. We had a lot of fun..what would it have been when logging out..what feeling of success..? NONE I can not understand the point of it.. nore of the ghosting. I never did it in the mod and never will do it in the sa. Because the feeling of being proud of you and your crew that we survived a hopeless fight, plus that rush of adrenalin, is unbeatable. If i'll die, i either deserved it or the player is a glitchusing scum.
  2. The very 1st day was in fact Night. it was night time and i was using my torch. unknown to me at the time that I was waving a freaking lighthouse around. If I hadn't seen two heavily armed dicks (not bandits.. there was no attempt to steal anything) through the window in a spawn location a second before they burst in through the door, I would never have known what happened... KoS.. Welcome to DayZ, Bitch! My second interaction was hilarious. once again Night time. Elecktro Fire Station. I'm playing with a mate, pitch black... then from no where is this scary mother fucker playing eerie music on direct, wearing nothing but a mask and trying to bare fist fight us both...we run around for a good 2 minutes before we worked out what the hell was happening.. my mate saved the day with a fire axe... My 3rd interaction.. just completed our 1st ever run (not mod players) through balota, military base NWAF and across to the coast. finally have guns and ammo and havent seen anyone for about 4 hours. pretty sure we were in the south of berezino. and we notice zombie are being aggroed, run around the corner and see a guy with an axe and a mosin on his back being mauled by a zombie with 2 more closing in. We take out the 1st zombie and tell him to bandage and we mow down the next two.. have a nice chat offer a few items which he declines and tell him if he touches his gun before we leave, we'll drop him.. and then we hightail the hell out of there. Straight into our 4th interaction, find a guy holed up in one of the small towns and my mate runs into the building with me right behind "hi, how you going?" as we duck the axe the crazy man in swinging at us...my mate unleashes the M4 clip in close quarters in a panic.. and mows me down! and my character glitches and won't stand still, so bandages and saline wont work as apparently im moving while unconscious. his solution... .357 to the head. respawn and run back to my body, loot what i can and away we go again.. find a new spawn and our 5th interaction has started, have a chat offer assistance when BANG.. the spawn goes down right in front of us, we hightail for cover but my mate never gets there.. he goes down.. dead. I sneak around a building.. find the one of the shooters, unleash my M4... bang bang bang click click click.... forgot to reload. You Are Dead. My 6th interaction is when i find a guy on the roof of an office building in Berezino, and i get the drop on him with my Mosin and say Hi. guy hasnt got a Mic and types in return.. ok I'm cool with that. I tell him where to find a spare Mosin I found a few minutes ago and drop 5 rounds on the ground for him. And he offers me a "Thanx Friend" My 7th interaction which occured an hour or two ago, we were in the hills above the wrecked ship way up North, and I hate to say this but my Mate opens up fire on an unsuspecting fellow going about his business, It;s too late to worry about the morals and I open fire as well, the guy is winged but runs and finds cover. what ensues is a 15 minutes gun fight with positions being traded and rounds flying in both directions without any combat logging or ghosting. THIS IS WHAT DAYZ IS ABOUT!! My mate goes down to M4 fire after getting caught in a rock, respawns and runs like buggery to get back to me. I loop around for a better position to find that ol mate is now off the boat and circling through the forest, I'm taking snap shots with an unscoped mosin and missing badly.. he is running and blazing away with his M4. then a very tense 7 minutes passes with nothing happening and then i see movement.. and I land a hit with the mosin but he is still standing and running and I miss oh so many shots.... i run to the boat and head up for a vantage point.. movement in the trees while the enemy tries to scope me again... and it's over. He gets hit the head from behind with a wrench from newspawn mate. we unceremoniously loot his bodies, thank him for his valor and move on. -------------------------------------------------------------- I love the unpredictability and the player interactions that occur in DayZ, for the sake of a somewhat interesting read I left out the Multiple times i was spawn camped by armed guys and the many many new spawns that punched me in the face when i was a new spawn as well. also some of the abuse i copped... wow, glad my mother can't hear you boys.. she'd make you wash your mouth out with soap! To get the best out of this game my mate and i have a pledge, no matter what. we dont combat log.. never have never will, even if the other guy does and we get ghosted.. as my mate said to me.. fuck it, it's only gear. ------------------------------------------------------------ TL:DR: 1. KoS spawn camped 2. Freaky scary clown man trying to box us to death. 3. save a man from zombies, and leave him be 4. KoS attempt by new spawn which leaves me dead thanks to friendly fire 5 KoS'd 6 Friendly interaction. give ammo away , thanks Friend 7. A KoS attempt from our group, turns into a long and gruelling gunfire fight, and i would like to thanks this man for sticking around and seeing it out to the end, even when outnumbered. I really enjoyed it. it was tense and i was very very worried for my safety.

    sweet tears of the cheat is too much for him pain of losing from baby his brain was this way his ego too easy for bruising so he must find unfair way to play >:( his testicles still in the tummy is smooth where he should have some sack now he win every times 'look me mummy' he dont lose after finding this hack <_< now is years of playing with cheats no efforts he putting in game and is true he never get beat but is fake win his skllls are so lame :| now his brain is not stupid like he is and it realise he cheat on himself one day it is force him to see this and he having then bad mental health :huh: is price for all he is taking include bullshit victory feel point is all of this was pure faking and nothing he feeling was real :( so next time from some hacker you dying server hop ghosting bitch make you dead know inside that this loser he crying when wanking alone in his bed :D

    I agree. To much items already ingame not working or not working as intended. as it is now its just junk loot. "ghost running" though as you call it is not exactly a glitch. Ghosting is when someoen flanks you using another server then joins back on yours.

    I am very against combat loggers but the only excuse a person has for EVER combat logging is if someone is server hopping or as people like to say now, ghosting. And that is the only excuse because the other person combat logged first.
  6. Yeah ghosting is the pinnacle of the shameful art of combat logging... log out from a dangerous situation, flank in safety then relog and try to kill the person that was attacking you initially

    I'll only combat log if someone is cheating to get the other hand, such as ghosting. Other than that I'm in it for better or worse. It gets tense that way, not knowing just how things will play out. Plus I'm big on the golden rule and get pissed when people combat log on me.
  9. Ghosting could easily be solved with a delay of a sort when logging out of the server. Say 15sec. What i want to see is also areas where you simply cant log in into. Perhaps make areas where u cant log out when u are inside the area´s borders? This would prevent ghosting and combat logging, at least in those areas. If you play with friends and decide to hold a military base and u sweep it clean from Z n players, u can still be taken bu surprise by someone that log in into that area. Just aint realistic. (in a wolrd of Z:s :\ ) And because of this we rarely get to see people/clans/groups fortifying areas.
  10. High priority points in the game at this moment are. 1. Combat Logging. Fix: Abortable Logout Timer @1-2minutes, or instant logout (Alt+F4, Gamecrash, Internet shutdown) with a killable AI dummy spawning for 1-2minutes. First, to fast implement this feature, just with a direct chat message: "Player is logging out". For improvements you can add animations like a simply hand wink, or better, something like the player is taking out a sleeping bag and jumping in there until he is gone + some zip-sound or yawning. Also working would be a icon above his head, so everyone around can see he is disconnecting. Why that hight time? Example: It would be annoying, if you for example surround a house and force the insiders to surrender. If you wouldnt hear/see something of them for a few seconds, you would need to rush the house to be sure you get them without logging off. Thats why a timer lower then 60sec is a No-Go. 2. Server Hopping / Ghosting: - Similar to Combat Logging, when a player joins a new game, he shouldnt really be able to move the first 60 seconds. A direct chat message should appear "Player just logging in" (or waking up, or whatever), so players around are warned. This chat message could later be replaced by some "wake up yawning, and a crawling out of sleeping bag" animation. People would think twice before they serverhop in some crowded area for looting or backstabbing. - Players shouldnt be able to rejoin the same server within 5 minutes, so Ghosting (logging off, running to another position, logging in, shooting someone in the back) would be nearly impossible. (if you crash and want to rejoin your friends, 5min is an acceptable time to wait also, i guess) - Players who die should be auto-respawned within 15sec, so they cannot tell theyr friends what is goin on around. - If players are joining more then 3 Servers within 30min, theyr time to be able to join the next server should be increased (and so on) (only implement this or similar solution, when loot-respawn actually works) 3. Dead body despawn time should be increased to like 45min, 1 hour or more. - immersion - if you shoot someone and want to loot him, you cant always do it within 15min (or whatever it is at this moment) because other ppl might camp it, its too dangerous, or whatever reason. for now its just way too less. 4. Players in handsup/ surrender Animation should be able to search and take equipment from, just the same as ppl beeing handcuffed. For now, if you want to non-violently rob someone, you must tell them to drop allt theyr clothes + backback, just to search it. Pretty annoying. 5.6, 7..... more zombies and building and so on, is anyway on the list, so no need to mention it here. Sorry for new topic, but all this useless discussion about some important, pretty easy to fix thingies are just not necassary.
  11. The problem with ghosting could be solved by making tha majors cities, militarycamps, airfield a non spawning area. If you log out by any reason while in an "hot" area you simple respawn outside. This could make ex nw Airfield a playce that you and your group could acually defend. As it is now ypu cant be sure a building is clear evens if you have sweept it. No realism. Sry for the crappy english- :/

    An easy fix to prevent server hopping

    Basically this.. As soon as Zombies/Loot respawns, server hopping will drop off.. It may not be completely "stopped", but server hopping isn't nearly as big of an issue as combat logging or ghosting.

    I would consider hacking to me the mortal sin in this list, although comparing to the mod I have not seen that many hackers in my personal experience of the game so far or anything that i can instantly say is a hack and is not just a bug, a lot of my friends say they same so in comparison to the mod I think hacking has been greatly reduced even though people still come on the forums to moan about it which I can understand I still think there cases are rather isolated. I can imagine though that all your list can at least be reduced if not totally fixed e,g play on a 1st person server to stop ghosting

    Or you could wait for private hive servers and then you will have what you want characters on a private hive will only be on that hive currently all servers are public. Also there is a fix coming for server hoping and ghosting i believe it to be a queing system where changing server starts a timed waiting situation which grows each time you jump a server ( this is just my belief from watching Rockets videos and how he describes it i could be wrong dont burn me for my interpreting what rocket said(and possibly wrongly lol ) PS please use search this is a common threa not as common as some but ya get the idea.

    Characters should be server specific

    Characters will have to be server specific (or every server gets a private hive) in order to fix ghosting and loot hopping problems, there is no other way. All other solutions proposed won't solve these issues without making the game annoying to play. All of the issues with server specific characters mentioned above are much less important due to short lifespan of characters. They could implement some feature where you can move characters between servers once per X time, or Y times total.

    Yup. I've seen these as well. I know rocket is going to deal with server hopping, ghosting and combat logging, but I really hope the dev team figures this out too. Once they get loot respawning, I'm hoping there would be zero benefit to frequent server restarts. Also, it would be cool if high value loot only spawns into servers with lots of players. I.e. The player count is a multiplier of some kind. This would keep people from having password protected servers that they use as their own private loot farm.

    You have a point also. Anyways cannot have pve servers till the private hives/servers are made. Or you could just run around on a pve server gearing up and ghosting into a pvp server killing people and going back to the pve server if you are outmatched. Or using it to get a better position on the people you are fighting on the pvp server.

    I think people who want to play PvE are entitled to do so on their own private hives. In the current system, however, it is not workable. People will be able to use them to gear up safely, then hop onto different servers. People will use them as safe servers for their ghosting maneuvers and so on. I'm sure there are other reasons why PvE servers are not workable until there are private hives. As for not getting a refund, it does seem harsh, but then if there are conditions upon being able to receive a refund, and setting up a server that kicks people for killing violates those conditions then one cannot really complain.

    It stands for "player vs environment" most that are sick of having good actual pvp spoiled by combat logging, ghosting, and kos'ing tend to go there for peace and quiet. The problem is, people abuse this idea by using this to gear up, and be on even grounds with others, rather then just immerse themselves. My buddy plays out in the deep north woods on one of these. It's inspired him to write a book. he will log on, get a charactor in his head, play the game, Liston to the birds, act out the scenes in game, etc. floats his boat. Honestly it seems, to me at least, the largest outcry against this is from players who are afraid they won't have anyone to shoot.

    Ha. Well i played as a medic for the last 40 hours. My last character was up 30 hours or even more. I was helping players all around north and south, giving supplies, ammo and meds until i met with my 2 buddies in elektro. One of my buddies was shot instantly after logging. Me and the second alive friend we narrowed the shooter to the tower in the firestation. We talked to him to lay down the weapon and come out. No harm will come to him if we can get back the stuff of our dead friend. We waited for his answer having our backs to the wall still scouting the area and then "You are dead". Either ghosting/cheating. No way someone could sneak upon us because we had both entrances covered. So the moral of the story - from now on im KOS. Im tired of having my character 30+ hours medic gunned down for no reason.

    Combat logging is the worst offense. Cheaters (you called them hackers, they don't hack they cheat) are annoying but will be caught soon enough and be banned. But combat loggers are the worst, they wont be punished at all and are literally breaking the only point of the game. Ghosting is just as bad but at least you get another chance to own the bitches. Gamma "cheating" isn't really cheating. It's a setting in your game. You can edit it at any time. If we are going to consider this cheating then we need to also accept FOV changers and anyone who re-keybinds. Darkness is something the game developer can lock, I have seen TRUE darkness in servers that no matter your settings you cannot see anything without a flashlight. They could easily lock the darkness to that. Just my 2 cents.

    Yeah, it's pretty upsetting seeing that three big problems in the Mod (loot farming/server hopping, combat logging and ghosting) were not addressed during the MMO redesign stage as fundamental issues and migrated unmolested into the SA.

    #1 combat logging - will be solved by logout delay #2 server hopping - will hopefully be reduced by a consecutive login delay #3 gamma cheating - can be tackled, but i doubt its a real issue #4 ghosting - will hopefully be reduced in conjuction with server hopping #5 hacking - can be massively reduced by limiting client priviledges and access to world data, but probably never completely go away #6 gear duping - can be easily tackled #7 admin loot cycle restart player kick abuse - admin abuse will remain as a trade off for community-hosted servers

  25. Combat logging is logging out in combat/ sometimes in neutral encounters.Ghosting is logging out and back in, on the same server to teleport around while trying to shoot someone.
