no surprise what side of debate you are :D 'fun', guys always say 'fun' thousand vehicles is fun, spawn with AS50 is 'fun' maybe is fun but is belong dayz? if you think yes you miss point of dayz I tell you something - first times I play dayz was not 'fun' like traditional game :o was like strange hell and make me scare and angry and confuse but was most intense experience ever in one game :thumbsup: :D 'Fun' is not good argue for 3rd person because this kind of fun don't belong in apocalypse. Dayz 'fun' come at price of suffer and fear time. is no fear in 3rd person, is like skip through flower fields sing 'what a beautiful day' -

Barricade building has been cinfirmed by Rocket some time ago. As far as I remember he was talking about moving wooden planks and stones and of course washing mashines etc etc and use them to buld barricades :I can imagine that we actualy will have to carry the larger pieces in our hands..maybe even use vehicles later on :) -

You just add extra weight with no benefit from incoming fire. Those stell plates are not hard enough to stop a bullet anyways. Most HMMWV crews didn't even up armor their vehicles because it just made them a slow target.

instead of barbwire and sandbags ( which was based on a military simulation) we will now be able to collect stuff to build improvised barricades which seems more realistic....you also can use vehicles like the big busses to block passages :) ( which is possible even in the mod) Fortifying and building camps should be done in a creative way, letting the player find out what to use or combine...not some shitty building deers stands out of your backpack mechanics like in Origin..did I say that I really hate this? :P ...the day I find a playermade Hobbit house with a letterbox and a garden fence..i will stopp playing this game.... -

Ok people a little update and sorry for being MIA for so long :) ok Convoy of the Dead [No PvP] has switched providers due to previous one having too much downtime.So whats new ??.... Okay we run Chernarus atm and have a base just east of Pustoshka which i have protected with iron dome and there are also 2 man bases hidden around the map and lots of neat scripts running like sarge ai,self bloodbag,auto fuel and one of my favorites which is drinking water from wells or ponds using your hands :) (makes it more realistic).there is also a suicide option and other scripts too but too many to mention.anyways donations to the server are welcomed and in return we will provide you and your team a protected base,supplies,vehicles and other things or if u enjoy surviving on the go then by all means welcome to our server.check us out @ 80.86.82.65:2392 hope to see you soon. Self bloodbag but can't save tents and vehicles!!!

I followed a common tutorial for Self Blood Bag Scripts, I am able to give myself a blood bag but the down side is I can no longer get the scroll down menu to let me save vehicles and tents. not sure if the fnSelfActions file has an auto save feature or not. has anyone else run into this problem. I used Hoplite's tutorial. You (and many hipsters/elitists) seem to miss the obvious. As you said, dayz universe is full of 3dp on servers and those servers are full of people whereas there is only an handful of 3dp off servers with a few people. So the community likes those servers much more (9-10:1 ratio?) than 1st person only. The community is made by tens (or hundreds) of thousands of players. Why they like it more? Neither you, or me or any of the 1st person hipsters have the answer. Many believe to know it but honestly if someone believes he/she can fathom the mind of tens of thousands of people and understand their thinking is either better than Einstein or an abysmal fool... Bottom Line: the majority plays 3dp on, is happy about it and does not request any tweak. Why? Who cares! Yes, some servers are full of vehicles and have extra scripts and custom starting loadouts. Personally I do not play on those because I like vanilla more but if someone wants to play on those and have fun, so be it. Who am I, or you or anyone else to dictate arrogantly how others should play a game to have fun? Cheers, _Anubis_ p.s. to 1st person hipsters only: I have tried 3dp off and I do not like it. A A List Of Buildings That Would Be Fun To See In Chernarus

1) A circus. Big colorful tents, strange loot, animal cages, trailers, the whole bunch. Maybe some dangerous really hungry escaped animals? Say a lion or tiger. Also vehicles, big old trucks, maybe a caravan, power generators. 2) A zoo. Can use cages as temporary safehouses, infected can't enter. Can also lock a player in a cage. Same as above for escaped animals. Companion wild dog source maybe? 2) Childrens' playgrounds, for that eerie feeling. And also for when (if) infected children are implemented. 3) Post office. Getting a chance to read people's mail at the break of the infection (being in russian would be a problem though, needs some thought). Immersion. Also vehicles, small trucks, bikes, etc. 4) Museum. Looted semi destroyed/vandalized. Paintings, old stuff, with captions next to them (language barrier again as above) informing the player about Chernarus and it's history. More immersion. 5) Factory. Already present, but not enterable. Automotive, gaz production line for example. Much loot for repairing vehicles, but also small tight spaces, low visibility (heavy machinery, pipes, debris), no light source (flashlight mandatory), kind of a maze to get in/out. Also power generators. 6) An old cinema or a plain theatre. Maybe you can repair the projector machine in the cinema (would also need a power generator), and play a couple of minutes fragment of an old russian movie on the screen. -
Is DayZ a hardcore survival simulator?

I also still have high hope for the standalone. I will be disappointed if there are a lot of compromises to make the game "more accessible." The hardcore game I thought this was shooting to be is something I have been dreaming of for years. I am going to buy and play it regardless, the mod so far has been an amazing experience. It deserves a try. The push by the general population for base building scares me though, as well as the dev teams support of it in some form or another. Bases and even tents circumvent the punishment of permadeath. I have always been against MMOs because your character never really dies, you keep all your levels and lots of items etc. Excess vehicles, what the inception mods have done to the game... I find it all scary because I know the general population would rather have a shoot-em up than a survival sim where death means something. Despite my current fear and confusion I am excited to see where it all goes, one way or the other. -
This surely needs to be implemented, along with spray painting on trees/walls/floors/windows/vehicles. Yes, in the beggining lots of people will just have fun with it, penises and all, but after the "omg new feature to play with" period I think it'll work fine. Just imagine the possibilities. Placing strange marks to follow to your camp, or to lure players in an ambush, warning signs/messages, defacing road signs in order to disorient players, role playing, suicide notes (immersion ftw), so many options.

Hello there I dont think Ive seen it done successfully (at least on one standard monitor). Also, I'm all for a reasonable fix, be it on the first or 3rd person front. My point being, why not try to solve the issue rather than knock heads on which view is bestest? In BF3 for eg, I feel very in control of my avatar. I don't feel that in any of the Arma series and somewhere 'tween the two in for example RO2. Yes, I do know the differences of the differing aatar "types" but if one had better control of ones avatar, would ones viewpoint matter as much? Does the mods inherent clunkiness encourage one to use third person? I tend to use 3rd person when in vehicles purely because of the odd physics/drive model used. Vehicles are far easier to control in 3rd person, whereas in first IMHO they are a bit of a pain and don't handle as they should. If say they sorted out that issue, I'd happily only use first person when driving. (As a passenger, the only time I use 3rd person is when I want to look at he pretties") Are we actually looking at the wrong problem? Rgds LoK -

Has anyone actually managed to be more right than everyone else yet? Let me see, all these circles of "he said, she said" boil down to not a whole lot, apart from 32 pages of competing pee stains. FPV is generally preferred, but is probably flawed enough to warrant retaining some form of TPV until or unless it is improved, particularly when operating vehicles. -

What you've done there is discount one possible solution. The most likely solution seems to be reigning in to first person when prone (and I guess, when crouch running and in vehicles). No extra workload on the server and perhaps a fix to this problem? Sounds like it... -

Either that or improve the first person view. FOV, mirrors on vehicles, ability to lean inside vehicles and so on. Either way I think the TPV must be improved and have separate servers for the SA anyhow. Team Rocket seem to be on all of this, so actually everything is fine. :) -

So last night on the PvP server named above, I spawned at Krutoy Cap (normally a suicide spawn for me), and start making my way SW along the coast. I spot a pbx and make my merry way out to it. Lady Luck is with me lol, full tank. So I go speeding toward elektro and make a pit stop in kamyshovo. (DISCLAIMER: this server has tons of buildings,vehicles, and custom loot tables.) I sneak into a barracks and grab up an m16 acog and some mags and start heading back to the boat. Gunfire behind me. I spin, commence zig zags and return fire, turns out it was a Bambi with a makarov. From his gear load out, he'd killed a few other fresh spawns on the way to me. Anyways, I grab his food and head back to the boat. Time to find some action. I take the pbx in close to the beach to hide myself with the raised shore. I land it at the NE edge of town and creep in, scanning the side chat for activity...there's plenty. I climb the back of the hospital to cover the intersection of the school and market. I wait. Nothing. But there's a Lee Enfield with 5 mags (my favorite medium range weapon) so I bag the m16 and head for the school. I get on the second story and drop my first target through the front doors of the market. 1 shot plus coup de grace. I pick up and move immediately, making my way around the market and on top of hill between the fire stations. I find a good positions and sight in on the northern one. There's 3 in sight. 1 surv, 2 bandit, I line up on the far left (I work left to right). I drop 2 immediately, 3rd escapes, I finish off the wounded and flank into the brush. Target on top of fire station. 10+ shots, then one to the foot I think (supreme luck here). He's done. I pull out m16, bandage (aggro), and head to corpses. Find a bunch of stanag. I head back to my hill top perch and pick off someone coming out of firestation armed and firing (wtf are they all coming from?) I stay put and shortly there after, two of the previously dearly departed drive a truck in to run me over. I drill the driver and the truck stops where me and the passenger knock each other out with gunfire. Random Bambi enters screen and splatters my head all over the ground lol. I know it was long, but it was a hell of a fight and all within about 45 min. Special thanks to IamBatman, Zman, Teyve, and assorted others for putting up such an awesome fight -

Hi My idea is that each server host would actually host 3 servers. One Chenarus, 1 Celle, and 1 Taviana (or a different selection jus 2 more maps). the if I say drove right to the end of the dead end road to the north west I would be swapped to the Taviana server. Or if I drove to the end of the coast road in the south west I would be swapped to the Celle server, with all the lobby and server selection hidden by a load screen (or even with a lobby so you could take a break) This could even become a feature.... each month or so feature a new community map. Maybe even let players vote for which one they want. I do realise this would be a mammoth task with how to move vehicles with map swaps, and how to make it auto join the server. It could also result in people camping the transition spots, but its not too different from looting NWA. Think that's about it :)

The game is harder in FPV. To see a Zombie you have to actually peek out. To see a person you have to actually peek out. To land a chopper you have to practice because you can't just swing into TPV and free-look and see how level the ground is below you or if your rotor is going to hit that tree/bush/antenna. You can't scan OVER a wall in FPV and see that the zombie you hear behind that wall is actually walking away from the corner or towards it, you have to go to the corner and look around, possibly right into the view of that Zombie. You have to look over your shoulder while driving a car if you want to back up. You have to turn your head or turn around to see the zombie that just walked up right behind you. While in a turret on a vehicle you have to swing the whole turret around and can't magically know that there is a zombie attacking the vehicle from the right side while you are facing the left. You can't see over the line of the hill, or low laws , or lay flat behind a bush and see over it to watch a zombie cross in front of you while out of sight of the zombie. There is a blindspot that exists looking around in FPV that requires you to turn slightly to look behind you but in TPV it is gone. You have an awareness of a 3-4 meter area around your body that you do not have in real life as well as an awareness of what is down the hall, in that room, over that wall, over the edge of the building, behind that tree/bush/rock/car, and so on. The game is MUCH easier in TPV. I've played limited to FPV and the game becomes more difficult, you have to take more precautions around zombies and players and vehicles become something you need practice with to be good enough to try anything risky like landing on a small building top with obstacles.
