    Why not three hour dayz?

    A character that is permanently "online" is no option for someone that plays only 5h per week. And I would like to see the face of your boss when you explain him why you can't make that 2 week business trip to China :P But you miss my main point: With my suggestion all servers connected to the public hive run the normal 24h day/night cycle. But every server can pick his offset at which it is running. An example: you have two servers in England that give you the same ping, one is running on UTC, the other on UTC-10. If the player wants to switch from the first to the latter, he has to "pay" with 14 hours worth of his energy. Did I say 14 hours for a change of 10 hours? Yes, as in-game we don't travel back in time ;) If he doesn't have such reserves, he can't make that time transition. Maybe he can just jump to a server that is max. 6h ahead. But there may also be such a server in London. Or he changes to another UTC server which "costs" him nothing. The admins could "report" to the public hive at which time offset the server shall run. But the server gets this offset from the public hive. To make it a bit more attractive for those that pay for those servers, the offset can be changed once in 24h. On private hives you could drop such limitations. What you probably miss are the (as I think positive) implications of this system: To achieve the flexibility to change time zones, the players will need to pay much more attention to their character. They need to spend more time on scavanging for food and such, instead of just waepons and ammo to otherwise keep camping the beaches or airfields. Neither can they easily jump from a full daytime to an (almost) empty nighttime server to restock on food and ammo with exploiting the gamma hack, to then jump back to the daytime server where their friends are waiting - that 2x change of time zones costs 24h worth of energy! It puts more focus on the survival aspect of the game, instead of being just another shooter with an initial server hopping phase to fetch the best equipment. (okay, server hopping is still there, but more limited with respect to the time zone; he can still freely jump between 20 servers that all run on UTC or whatever time zone he happens to be in) But ultimately you will get more nighttime action because there may be people that just can't "afford" to jump to a daytime server. Loot hoarding will also be more difficult, because tents and vehicles are server bound (if it is like in the mod) => to switch back and forth between your base and whatever other server (in a different time zone) will also cost 24h of energy. You will need to pack a lot of beans to make such a transit worthwhile! Shortening the day/night cycle would hurt this system; with the in this thread suggested 3h cycle there would be almost no penalty to switch between night and day. Do I now get your beans?!

    Is the amount of PvP due to the difficulty of PvE

    A good portion of the PvP is because of the ease and lack of depth of the PvE. Once we have vehicles to repair/maintain, bases to build/defend, and crash sites to hunt for you'll see less PvP...on the coast at least. But for now all you have is the hour it takes to gear up and then back to the coast to hunt.

    It would be totally cool if, when vehicles or bikes are allowed, we are able to pick up steros/build our own sound systems with parts and run around doing whatever it is your heart desires, with an awesome wave of bass following your wake.

    Why aren't PvE servers allowed?

    Why worry about PVE servers, when there will be 1000+ vehicles, helis and spawn with DMR servers to saturate the true vanilla DayZ.

    Loot: Mysterious and Unpredictable

    With respect, that really doesn't make any sense. Loot already exists all over the map. By making it spawn less frequently, these suggestions would actually reduce the point-in-time load on the server and decrease, rather than increase lag. Lag is primarily caused by two things: a. the server being really busy with heavy processing (everyone lags) or b. your personal network bandwidth being over-taxed, making it difficult to stay in synch with the server (just you lag). Once loot is spawned, the server doesn't have a lot of processing to do. Most of the work would come from checking each spawn location to see if loot needs to appear. The network bubble implementation also ensures that loot which is far away from you doesn't have any direct impact on your personal network bandwidth. If you're in Chernogorsk, your client doens't know anything about the loot in Berezino. Further, if you truly believe the game is incapable of supporting things like this without becoming "extremely laggy" then what do you expect will happen once other features are added like vehicles, player-built structures, animals, traps, etc. not to mention hundreds of additional zombies? I get the sense that you're basically just trying to be contrary because we had it out in that other thread about PvP but, trust me, you're barking up the wrong tree here.

    Base Buidlind and How it Works?

    Yeah in the mod there was only tents at first. Later we got stashes that were much more concealed, but held considerably less. Also you could always have driven a car somewhere and popped the tyres....instant tent :D They didnt persist over servers. Im hoping for the SA though they move away from just storage items, and give us more utility things to build. If we get that then we could find people just visiting our camps and leaving them intact.....so they can come and use the facilities without building there own. Or untill they build there own....then trash it. In the mod the only thing to do really was trash the camp (denial of enemy resourses we used to call it lol). Or you could skim some ammo every few days and hope they didnt notice. The best way to do it was put everything you want in one of the vehicles....blow the rest and then crush the tents before leaving. With utility, just destroying everything may not be the first choice :)

    fucking tents first...lol we dont even have shit saving on servers yet, nevermind base building. the day that tents and vehicles stay on servers after reset will be a great sign that it has gotten near/past the mod in features and function.
  12. They are not of great immediate importance so items and weapons will be added throughout development. Both zombies and vehicles are getting a complete revamp so it will probably be a couple of months at least for their to be anything in that front.

    Stop comparing the mod to the Standalone. I get they had ridiculous amounts of helicopters in certain modes. Well, the SA doesnt even have vehicles. Or completed cities if I'm not mistaken. Frankly the argument dies with "The Devs didn't attend for it to be PVE." You cant argue with that. You can go out and create your own game. We'll wait. Link it to this thread when you are done. In the meantime, you will play with the risk of dying. You will follow the rules. Or you can choose not to play. Not one person who bought the 850k copies sold will care. If you want to not die, go to Berezino rather than Elektro. It's not that hard. It takes time and patience, but you'll get the hang of it bud. But yeah, imo PvE servers sound incredibly boring. But that doesnt matter since I wont have to play on one. Because they are against the rules.

    Dude. Base building on Epoch is the best base building in all of DayZ. They only had limited things to work with. I ask you to try and get inside my base in epoch. You wont, and I can tell you I have less than 75 building pieces. You really are mistaking if you think base building is bad in Epoch. What would you like, preset bases? Items you can just drop, like from wasteland, and have a makeshift base. You are really nieve. Also, Personally base building should be cool, but it will also ruin any servers that don't have proper admin deletion of bases. So many randoms will fill servers with incomplete bases that it won't even be able to handle 30+ people on the server without lag. They should focus on tents, and vehicles, just like DayZ was meant to be played. It's very clear that you don't have the mental capacity to help with guiding this alpha towards the future. I hope whatever server you play on, the admins don't listen to you. And, learn to spell Cherno? And just because I forgot, how does a base get made through admin exploitation? They just spawn in all the pieces? Cause thats the only way to make bases? I've never been helped by admins, and I enjoy my base. Because I worked for it. If you want a huge base, go play wasteland. Epoch isn't about having a huge base. It's about having somewhere to store your loot, in between killing n00bs. I feel like you are too busy complaining about the game to actually enjoy it. Sorry to all those offended by my thoughts. But I had to step in here to let this douche know he's dumb.

    They have plan to add vehicles before base building I believe. Regardless, when they do add vehicles it "kind of" solves two problems in one, since, being able to store items in vehicles will most likely become the temporary "bases" until further content is added.

    Part of the problem is the fact that loot doesn't respawn yet, coupled with there being no vehicles. If you go to loot some place and it's already been picked clean, the only options are: A. Wait for server restart, could take hours B. Hike to another location, can take up to an hour, requires supplies, and there's a chance that location will have been picked clean too C. Server hop
  17. As far as I'm concerned, PvE servers would be pretty pointless because the game would get boring extremely fast. And as this is not an ARMA mod anymore, there is no reason why should people have the choice to do whatever they want with the game. What is funny though, is that many people who are strongly opposed to the idea of PvE servers because "it's not how it was meant to be played" would have no problem joining a 100000 vehicles|1000 choppers|extra barracks & military loot| starting loadout| kind of servers when modding and private hives become available.

    There is no way that will be in the next 6/9 months+ I dare say .. proper zombie count, hunting and vehicles will all come before base building which in my opinion is logical and I think that's the way it should go to be honest.. Building bases is the last thing I could think about.. I more so imagine boarding up/fortifying the standard in game houses before we see any player made bases from scratch... but I'm just speculating of course.. else most houses would probably be occupied considering how popular the game is... I'm wondering if fortifying the standard houses may come at the same time as base building just so alot of standard loot able houses aren't all fortified before actual base building is implemented..(MAYBE?)

    Custom Compilation of ideas

    Hey guys, just thought i would throw in some more ideas about the possible progression in the game's development. These are but a few of my ideas of thing i would look forward to seeing in the future. 1. Ammo: Reloading and Breakdown All forms of ammunition should be able to be reloaded by finding the base materials like gunpowder (Rifle/Pistol, Military/Civilian grades as well) casings and boxes of bullets in order to craft your own personal ammo such as a Hollow Point bullet using military grade powder to create a powerful Handgun round for the .45ACP. This also means that not only can you make ammo , but break it down into its base forms to then use to create different or more of another kind of ammo providing you have the materials. 2. Customized Gear This idea revolves around making your character look 100% unique via combining different clothing options to, more or less, Improvise clothing options. Example: Taking a Pistol Holster with The SEWING KIT(big part of this idea) and combining it with a jacket = Concealed Holster on the inside of the jacket. Example 2 : Taking a hooded coat, pants and Balaclava and the the SEWING KIT and combining it with some Decorative Moss and Fake Leaves = Homemade Ghillie suit. 3. Electronic Equipment and its uses I'm sure most of us have seen the walkie-talkie in the game and its current use is yet to be known but what about more than just that. Who know? maybe you come across a military grade computer that was Protected in some way and has a Solar battery charger attached to it. now you can use that computer to gain access to the location of some of the weapon caches or supplies stored by the Military that were never retrieved (the battery charger is also a slick item to have)? Or maybe a gas powered Generator that is capable of powering a house or a storage shed or Garage, Maybe even big enough that it is an industrial size' genny' capable of powering an entire city block or your home base/fort? 4. The Armory (my personal favorite subject) Not just guns, LOTS OF GUNS!!!! Every gun from Warsaw pact weaponry like the AK and RPG to Browning Manufacturing (M1919 LMG and M2 'Ma deuce' 50 cal. HMG) and everything in between. Grenade launchers and weapons from all around the world and not just small arms, Miniguns, A2A and A2G Rockets and missiles for Aircraft and Ground Vehicles is just a few examples. 5. Vehicles: More Diversity then DayZ Mod Almost any common Civilian and Military Vehicle is available on a Random Spawn That has percentage chances, To spawn in EVERY major town and city on the map (Elecktro, Cherno ,Stary, Novy,Solnichy,Kamyshovo, etc.) but aircraft are not restricted to biplanes and heli's. I mean Jets and Air Liners and Legendary aircraft like the AC-130 and the A-10. Granted thes forms of aircraft will be Extremely Rare. 6. Faction Warfare and Management for admins Duh......If your a bandit or a lawman it will show it on the player screen and Neutral Npc Safe zones in certain areas to allow a Free flowing Marketplace made and maintained by the players on each server. This is but a few of the ideas i have and some of them come from the Dayz Epoch mod and rMod add-on but i think it would be cool to see this in the BASE game without outside modding involved.

    Warning to Chernarus swimmers.

    I know you're supposed to have a chance to drop items while in water. Not sure if the same goes for ejecting from vehicles or generally hitting the ground/water at high speed. Maybe a combination of the two made the system to loopy and have you shit out items at an increased frequency?

    When I buy DayZ, the game, and use it to connect to a random DayZ server I'm entitled to a standard, vanilla DayZ experience representing Developers vision every time. No friends only, no 24/7 day, no 1000+ vehicles. I also think modders should not be able to use DayZ name in their mod as it may deviate from standard experience, same way as Arma 3 Breaking Point and Arma 3 Epoch have dropped DayZ from their names.

    Vehicles should be rare and involve scavenging off multiple vehicles to get one fully functional. The people who seem to want them, in my opinion, to be common are generally the careless types or lesser experienced that die quickly.

    Just wondering what the community thinks in regards to vehicle numbers when they are implemented, as in how many vehicles per server, how they should work and how hard they should be to get? Personally I think that Vehicles should be pretty common but the fuel should be very rare, to repair them you should need tools and realistic parts (you are not able to shove an engine in a backpack), parts like spark plugs, fuel filters radiator hoses are the things that after some time would most likely be causing problems, unless the engine is totally buggered. I really do not understand the people who think there should be like 3-4 vehicles on a map this large, they must like running XD what do you guys think?

    Development is too slow

    i have all the time in the world. i don't care if it takes ten years I'll be playing. This is the best survival game ever in my opinion of course. and to say they need to hurry development is stupid do you really want another crashfield 4 look at that hunk of crap it was rushed and its awful now crashes every ten minutes and they keep patching(i don't think they even know how to fix it) this is not a AAA title get over it and learn some patience. I'm wondering if all of the people complaining on here about rust being better and there aren't enough features etc have even played the original mod or the other version of it such a namalask,origins,epoch etc. probably not. and if you have then you should go back to playing the mod cause it has vehicles and more features. so quit being a buzzkill for the rest of us that have been patient because if this game is ruined because of a bunch of flyby night gamers who only play whats popular then i'm going to be pissed. and to Dean and the folks working on the game take your time make it perfect. cause i'll walk the map forever if i have to.

    Flying Helis in the mod was good fun. If they are added, I just hope that they make fuel quite difficult to find. Having a heli that can easily be filled and flow around that map to find all the vehicles/camps is too OP imo.
