  1. didnt the devs allready say that driving a vehicle at top speeds like that wont be easy at all? i think cars should be in the game, but i hope they keep those civilian, no army vehicles with guns.. just make fuel and working parts a rarity, limit the speed of those patchwork cars to 100 on roads or something like that. modern cars would be a pain in the ass to keep them running, i want old simple ones where it is possible to fix them yoursell. in a post apocaliptic world its way easier to get and old tractor working than any modern car that is full of electronics. and yes please add bicycles ;)
  2. I've been saying what OP has been saying forever now. The map is not large enough for vehicles. Besides, what is this? Watered down GTA?! The only vehicles I would personally approve of, and find fitting to the game, is: 1: Mountain Bicycle - About 2x runspeed. Uses less energy than running. All-terrain use. 2: Rollerblades/Rollerskates/Skateboard - Road use only, Uses same or slightly less energy than running. Roughly 3x running speed. Apart from that, I MIGHT be convinced towards a hang-glider than can be used to, say, travel from Green Mountain/Devil's Castle, at reasonable speed. Gotta say though, that landing it should be very hard and have a very high chance of broken legs/arms/death if landed incorrectly. But I stand firm that cars, trucks, planes of any sort, or any vehicle that requires fuel should be a massive no-go for DayZ.
  3. running the map in the editor has absolutely nothing in common with running it on a server.. and as for the empty space, that has already been utilized heavily in the mod to stash vehicles ;) edit:oh, and the fond memories of the debug plains marathons..

    Hotfix changelog: Stable Branch: 0.35.115188

OMG It's been nearly 20 mins since you last released an update, this pace of progress is so slow and we haven't had any word from Dean or Matt through the forum and twitter and Reddit and a video on the dev blog and directly into my inbox, you guys are making millions and nothing is happening, this is such a joke, you should be ashamed of yourselves because there should be updates and new content and vehicles and a flying pony added every ten minutes... Nice, keep up the great work ;-)
  5. LOL yeah i wouldnt worry to much BP for arma 3 uses alot of vehicles but the repair aspect makes them get hard to get going in the first place then add to that the tire damage that non 4x4 vehicles in the mod take for going off road makes you stick to the roads.... When ya stick to the roads you get shot at again damaging and in some cases ruining the car /causing your death.. Im sure the devs will make a far better system than BP's( well i hope so ) so i am not to worried they will be op and make the map ubber small..
  6. Have you played the mod? If yes, then you should know that vehicles make it that more fun. Yes it makes you travel faster, and maybe skip alot of stuff/loot, but that's just positive for the next couple of lads trying to loot that spot you missed. But being picked up by strangers on the coast, just to find out they want to kidnap you when you're inside their car is just priceless. Like the others point out, fuel must be somewhat rare to find, even though I think gas stations should let you refuel anyway. (Edit: Maybe not even gas stations just to make fuel that more rare) But no vehicles should spawn "pristine". You should at least work for it to make vehicles work. Fix tires, fix engine parts etc etc. Just like the mod, just better. :) But really, I have no doubt the dev team would want every survivor cruising around the map in vehicles anyway, so I see no reason to worry. :beans:
  7. I can think of many ways to make vehicles work without ruining the game. You are worried about nothing.
  8. The big thing they need to solve is how groups can get together more quickly than is currently possible in the game. Vehicles can be a means, but depending on how they do bases, that could also be a possibility. The problem right now is that you never know where other people you might want to play with will be when you log in, so if you don't have many hours to play, you are effectively stuck solo or spending your whole session just walking to the other person, at which point, you do it all over the next day. If vehicles are going to be the way for this, they need to be somewhat accessible. Otherwise, I'd suggest maybe with bases, if you log out for more than X hours, you can choose to spawn in at base (as the whole realism thing is kind of lost when magically popping into a location anyway and the only real exploit would be if you could pop across the map in less time than it would take to walk by quickly logging out and back in, which is why the X hours suggestion).
  9. I know what you mean however in the other mods like dayZ breaking point and epoc they were not that rare and it was still great, you had teams operating on the servers moving around so it still worked really well. In the SA remember the new northern parts of the map so it will add to the drive. I would like to see vehicles all over the map but make them complicated to repair and the parts to repair few and far between and as I understand Dean wants to add complicated mechanics so you can pull parts off other cars etc... So I do think cars should be fruitful but they are all busted to hell and you really have to work on repairing them. With the above mechanic I mentioned you could have multiple people trying to repair one vehicle and another stripping it for parts while they are away and someone also camping it waiting for it to get fixed. Also add the American muscle cars that have terrible mileage and make them eat fuel like there is no tomorrow, that would add another complexity.

    Weapon Balance vs "Realism"

All right, I will concede that there may have been US intervention in Russia in this universe; very unlikely, however, but if that's the case, that would mean the Charnaurus would have been a major flashpoint in the 'war on the zeds' meaning there should be significant military hardware all over the place. I wonder if no american vehicles get put in the game if those pro-USA hardware will stfu....I doubt it though.

Custom Arma 2 faces in Dayz?

lol sorry i ran out of time for the test bed for me..(test tomorrow or when your ready) pbo the packed file format of a mod it sounds like your just directly changing the main files of the game with an alternate file yes?? if so never a good way to mod something... Yes i love the feature as well i was originally a battlefield 2 player back when you could mod the game (cant mod the new BF games or badcompany etc) the modding was what first brought me to arma. The possibilities are almost endless with a developer who not only allows but actively supports people modding... I have hundreds of hours in arma (non steam version it could be alot more than that ) but have probably as many in making models etc for it. I am one of those guys that when the game is open to modding will jump straight into making custom stuff for the game (and run a private server to host my version which no wont be easy mode 24/7 day 1000 vehicles etc etc.

Do we want a reward for surviving?

Seriously what servers are people playing on? I play on UK servers and rarely have any problem with KoSers, most of the time people wave, wiggle and then jog on. Then again I rarely go to known PvP hotspots and run around without a care in the world... What is needed is more content in the world. Once we have things like base building and vehicles, only then can we begin to see if things such as skills and traits are needed.
  13. Title: 1 Shot 1 Kill | Dayz Epoch 1.0.3.1 Chernarus | Looking for Heroes & Bandits! --------------------- Game Server: 69.39.239.141:3187 Server Forums: 1s1kdayz.enjin.com Server Video: Warning: This is a PVP server. There are plenty of PVE elements on the server, however PVP is encouraged and welcomed. Bandit clans are setup with the exact same perks and treated the same way as hero clans. 1S1K Dayz Epoch is a different experience from your typical dayz epoch. Most servers have donation perks that encourage a pay to win environment, with custom loadouts for people who want to pay for them. We've also experienced some servers where the admins basically run a business by selling building supplies in their server donation store on a server that has destructible bases, and then going around and destroying those bases at night, so those people would then have to buy more building materials from the donation store. Needless to say, we don't want that environment. Instead we have chosen to give out what most servers offer as donation perks, instead as clan perks, based on your individual group size. Clan Perks: • Base Building Kits [based on group size] Supply box with prefabricated & raw building materials, & all the tools you need to build. • Door / Safe Combo Changes [3+ Members] Change all your door and safe combos to a single combination. Doors/safes with the same combination do not require you to re-enter combinations again. You can simply use the unlock/lock function on all doors/safes with the same combinations. • Clan Uniform @ Respawn [4+ Members] Find an epoch skin your group likes, we will set your group up with a custom loadout that spawns that skin in your inventory on respawn, as well as remove that skin from the traders. Thus you will be the only group on the server that will have that skin. *Ghillies & Hero skins not available as uniforms for obvious reasons • Fuel Tank @ Base [5+ Members] Fuel tank at your base enables you to put fuel pumps down within 30m of the tank, enabling auto refuel & repair at your base. • Protective Base Domes [5+ Members] Protective Base Domes are programmed with your group members' GUIDs. Anyone trying to enter your protective base dome that is not programmed into your dome gets warnings for 1 minute to leave, if they do not comply they are kicked from the game and teleported to skalisty island. *Base domes are not god mode. Base domes are not meant to stop people from attacking you at your base. Base domes are intended to stop people from camping inside/near your base and griefing your vehicles while you're not around, as well as preventing people from trying to guess door and safe combinations. Server Philosophy: We are of the philosophy that perks we setup for our clan members should be offered to every group on the server. Anything new that is setup for our clan will be offered to every group on the server. We hated the pay to win environment other servers offered, as well as the shady "business models" some admins have created on their servers. We strive to create a level playing field for every group on our server(bandit & hero clans alike), as the only thing preventing you from obtaining perks on our server is the size of your group, which can easily be rectified by recruiting more people, which is our goal, more people playing on our server! Active Admins: We have 2 super admins & 5 regular admins. All admins have rcon access, as well as customized in game admin tools on their scroll wheel menu to deal with the most common issues people playing in our server have. Our Server Admins adhere to a strict no abuse policy. We will not do anything for ourselves, that we would not do for you. With that policy, please do not ask for teleports, free items, keys to unlock vehicles you lost the key for, etc. Play the game "as it's designed" is our philosophy. Please note that during "Special Events" (which you are welcome to attend) the admins will be doing lots of teleports, spawning vehicles, spawning guns for the event. If you see a lot of players being teleported and you'd like to join the Special Event, just ask! Server Protected by: TSW Anti-hack Server Updates:7 New Barracks Added Trader Safezones Dynamic AI missions w/customized loot Roaming AI [Hero & Bandit] Indestructible Bases Auto Refuel & Repair Heli Lift and Towing Self Bloodbag 100m Plot Pole Protective Base Domes Build Snapping Extended 1.4 Sector FNG [AI Bandit Base w/rare weapons and items] Helicopter Evacuation Trader Updates: UH60 [Medivac] M113 [Tracked APC] Vehicle Ammo Trader Lapua .338 [Green] Fuel Pump MK17 [sniper | CCO | SD] & Ammo Merlin HC3 Combination Lock Mozzie @ Stary Keymakers Kit Chainsaw 2 Stroke Engine Oil AS50 Ammo(can loot weapon from AI Base and military) M107 & Ammo We're consistently adding new things to the server based on community suggestions. If you are trying to find a home with fair admins and a balanced environment for heros & bandits alike, someplace you won't get kicked or banned for killing admins, come check us out. All our admins play regularly and enjoy helping people new to the game, as well as always welcoming the challenge of new PVPer's on the server. We do regular weekend events, and now that the server is setup and fully functioning with all the scripts we want, my focus will be on creating mission files specifically for event nights. Some events we currently run: • Armored Vehicle/Air Vehicle Nights: We'll spawn tanks, jets, helicopters with explosive weapons at a location that we teleport participants to. We may do king of the hill objectives or capture an item objectives, or attack and defend. • Team PVP - Attack & Defend: We teleport participants to a defend-able location, spawn a weapons box. Everyone in the current round uses the same weapons, which will be selected by the group. Each team takes a different set of skins to clearly identify who is who. Allow defenders one minute for setup, and then attackers assault the building. Some events we have planned for the future: • Death Race on the Coast: Race from Berezino to Kamenka on a death race track, complete with hazards, traps, & forced city detours. The real problem with racing in dayz is that whoever is in the front of the pack generally stays in the front... until something catastrophic happens. We are going to dramatically increase the catastrophe quotient by adding obstacles to avoid and forced detours, there will even be mines layed out in certain spots, though never entirely blocking your path - there will always be a clear path through the obstacles, however that doesn't prevent your buddy from shoving you into whatever obstacle happens to be closest. • Castle Siege: A custom castle will be added to the map. One night a week, we will have a castle siege night, where last week's winners of the siege will defend the castle against all other groups trying to take the castle. Winners of the castle siege will be allowed to use the castle as their base of operations for the following week, until the next castle siege night. The castle will come equipped with a gun rack filled with rare weapons, as well as a locked chopper. The castle will be protected by a Protective Base Dome programmed with the winner's GUIDs for the duration of the week. The base dome will be taken down during castle siege night. We have quite a few more events planned for the future, but these are my favorites and the first I will be working to implement.
  14. So Day Z is likely to have a lot of cool features in the future. I've sat back and read a lot of threads about what you guys have been suggesting and I've also been watching a lot of what Rocket's been saying. I'm hoping to get a decent discussion going about some things that may be on their way and some things that are often brought up as subject to change. I'm just going to put my opinions in a 20-item list here. What do you all think? My personal opinions on a few topics: 1. Adding sleeping to the game - This is a bad idea. If i'm not playing then I shouldn't use up server resources. 2. Base Building - This sounds really solid so far. It would be somewhat disappointing if my base was only logged via specific servers though. 3. Getting knocked unconscious - I honestly really like the way this works right now. 4. Humanity Systems - In real life I can't tell whose a good guy or bad guy. You can say people can have a gut feeling but even then the way a humanity system would work would need to be fairly complex. How do you determine if a person had to kill for self defense or not? If there was some way to tell who was good/bad I'd want it to be a very slight change that could be overlooked if you weren't looking for it. Like a facial expression or a slight change in coloration of things or something. If your character scowled it would give bandits more reason to wear masks which could add an interesting dynamic. 5. Zombies - They walk through walls and are completely non-threatening right now. I want to fear them and I want my bullets not to feel like their wasted if I fire them into them. 6. Stamina Systems - This should not be employed until the game has vehicles and re-spawning loot. If there is a stamina system used then it should be based around carry weight. This would give some incentive to packing light. 7. Making Specific Items Very Rare - I both hate and love this idea. I feel like many people would waste too much time trying to get a specific fabled item. Plus if you were one of the 100 people in the whole world with night vision goggles then everyone would want to kill you for them. 8. Trains - I really want to see someone repair an old train someday. It would be hilarious to see people run over by one. 9. Melee Combat - Needs some work but its definitely on the way there. 10. Ranged Combat - Most weapons need a bit more polishing in the way they work and feel but so far this is my favorite part of the game play. It's very satisfying to shoot zombies. 11. Anonymity - This needs to stay a part of the game. If you're not told their name then you don't know it. That's how it should be. 12. Rewards For Surviving A Long Time - Beards. We need to grow beards. 13. Skills - This is a touchy subject for me at least. You should get minutely better at things as you do them. But this should be done subtlety and only change things like speeds or percentages. Ex: the more you reload the faster at reloading you get. Very slowly until its about half the time it would take usually, Then it just stops improving. 14. Suicide - Yes. This could be really hilariously used as well as provide a dramatic element for those RP-ers our there. There should be something about your body that makes it obvious that that is how you died. 15. Vehicles - Please let there be lots of broken ones and a few working ones. Then certain factories can spawn parts and the broken ones can be repaired and used for a while. 16. Sound Design - This seems to be going in the right direction, but obviously still needs work. I feel like music should be added to the game but it needs to stay easy to turn off. 17. Certain Settings Being Unchangeable - Also a touchy subject. While it may be unfair to weaker computers I do feel that certain settings like shadows and grass amounts should be the same across the board. There's little to no point in trying to be stealthy without that. 18. Crowbars/Axes To Open Doors - This sounds really cool. It should make a different amount of noise depending on what is used to open them and what kind of door it is. Car doors should be noisy almost always and if you have to use an axe to chop down a door it should be pretty loud. 19. Hunting - This sounds like a good idea so far. But it wouldn't make sense to implement before cooking. 20. Weather - I really hope this affects characters physically. This should be made server-side for sure and would give players a reason to get rain resistant or warm clothing. Of course the game needs a lot of work but I thought this list was a good starting point for discussion. I feel like this game needs to make player interaction close to life-like. No obvious ways to tell whose who and whatnot. Immersion is really important to me. If there were to be an easier to play less immersive version of the game then I would want it to be an optional version that I didn't have to play on. I feel like this game needs to be rather difficult to play and fairly in depth. If I wanted to play a regular FPS game I would. I play Day Z because it's unlike any game I've ever encountered before. I get a real sense of adventure when i'm out and about. Every interaction with people makes my heart race a bit. I'm just so in love with this game and I really don't want to see people try and transform it into the same generic crap that every other game out there equates to. P.S. The log out timers really bug me still. They help with combat logging mildly I think. That's nice and all. But they're not a full-proof fix and I really hope the timers get the attention they need to stop being so bothersome to the average player. They don't really do anything to stop server hoppers. Sometimes I register pings weird and a server I think will be fine will have a really bad connection to me and I'll need to switch a few times until I find one that's less trouble. That takes about 3x as long to do now with the new timers.

    Basements?

I know about the Namalsk bunker, yes. Problem is, this is not engine-based. If you look underneath it, you can see a HUGE crater in the terrain which required a big 3d model of the AII military base to be put above it. This causes a lot of trouble with colision and vehicles driving, aswell as zombie-pathing. Now imagine having to put a crater under each of the houses with that bottom hatch and having to model-out part of the terrain and road seperatly. So we would be better off waiting for them to have it supported directly by the engine.

    Game Development Priorities

Without wishing to sound harsh, I don't think you really grasp how development is done. You've touched on it to an extent with the "there are staff working on assets .. but given the numerous bugged out.. etc" line, but the bottom line is that the major issues with the game (certain show stopper bugs and serious improvements like loot/zombie respawn, buildings and vehicles, etc) will take much longer and will be getting worked on concurrently and not by those doing what you consider the "clutter". As I said in my previous post nobody outside the devs have a proper overview of what is being worked on, by whom and how long that will take.
  17. People server hop in low population servers because it's statistically safer - hopefully that's not news. But the 30 second timeout makes high population servers more playable, realistic, and fair. I play in high population servers and haven't noticed server hopping or people spawning in right near me. When I come across a fully looted village it's usually because of the huge gang of players that just ran by, not because of server hoppers. Server hopping is far more dangerous in a high population server, so to the extent that it bothers people to see it, just play in a high population server where you either won't notice it or where it won't matter. Server hopping at an air field in a 38/40 server is a death sentence usually since you have Kos campers essentially enforcing "fair play" through ass-hattery. It's a self feeding machine. Server hopping is partly a byproduct of KOS unjust deaths (not fixable), glitch deaths (fixable), and human greed (not fixable). Also what the OP sees as server hopping may just be people playing in non-binge time increments like 20/30/40 minute segments. I can Imagine it could take a very careful player 20 minutes to safely loot a village, get to a safe place and log out - if you only have 20 minutes to play what choice do you have? Then what are you likely going to do when you log back in, skip over your village full of loot to go charging through the forest? No you're going to loot the same village again. We have to figure there is a whole subset of non-fanatical players with actual real world things to do who play this way and don't post on forums about it. Other than forcing people into playing prescribed time slots there's nothing to be done about this. The OP said he doesn't play in high pop servers because of performance problems, which is a separate issue entirely. You either have to wait for a patch or upgrade your system, or possibly both since IDK your specs. edit: Once they add vehicles it should incentivize people to stay in the server to re-gear when they're killed by another player, this way they have a chance to get revenge. Of course people will start complaining about their rides getting jacked...
  18. 5 min will do nothing. What will happen once they add vehicles and a storage system? * Going to try to hide the car / storage on the "north or west borders", don't bother people will server hop to find it. (Just like the classic mod) While on a character bound server, people would actually have to travel and find your vehicle and base. Server hopping takes 3 min Traveling around the map takes hours. ------- As for full servers.... just wait for available slots... lol * Somehow the PC gaming community has managed to deal with full servers for the past couple of years.

    Lightning strikes

Yea you guessed it haha . My suggestion is that since there is beautiful rain and thunder , to add lightning when the time comes but also add a random chance of the lightning hitting the ground every storm ( about 18 million bolts hit the ground in the United States in 2012 ) and possibly a person. Lets say if the storm is a quick terrenchial down pour there's only a 1% chance of a lightning bolt hitting the ground in the time the storms active and a .5% chance of it hitting a person ( ~19 people died in the us from lightning strikes in 2013). Like in real life this obviously won't hit people that often but when it does it could : either break a leg ( im guessing lightning would throw you off your feet ) or give you an instant knockout , and if a burn system was introduced the lightning strike would produce a large burn that could be dangerous if left untreated. Of course when vehicles arrive, if it hit the vehicle you'd be virtually safe but maybe the battery woul be rendered dead ? Or if the windows were down get a slight shock knocking you unconcious. Imagine heading into Cherno for the 100 th time after this is added and finally seeing someone get brutally shocked by a lightning strike , the decision is yours to rob them or heroically revive them with a defibilator (dunno if that helps in shock situations but whatever haha) or just walk away after fraps-ing it haha.

[Suggestion] Land/Air Vehicles wanted in the SA!?

Lots of battered Russian/Czech/Yugoslav vehicles. Anything left behind by NATO/UN should be very rare and utterly trashed when found. LOL @ the Warick PD black and white.
  21. I understand what you're going for, I just don't know that it's built into the fabric of the game to know the difference. I could be wrong of course. As long as people (A.) don't have anything to do but collect gear, (B.) have to fear every single player they encounter and (C.) have nothing to fall back to or vehicles to traverse the map quickly, the urge to be armed and geared will outweigh a lot of folks' desire to take it the 'long [honest] way'. IMO, the devs should be focusing on deepening the game dynamics, adding new map and environmental content, new hazards (like the infection system and illness), vehicles, and more zombies. I think an influx of these sorts of improvements will change the game dynamics to a degree that the hopping issue will solve itself holistically (to the best extent that it can). By chiding the devs about server hopping and logging issues, the community is distracting them from making the overall experience better. Server hopping is spilled milk at this point.
  22. Has anyone else noticed this yet? Even with faster running, I'm pretty sure they've made Chernarus plus more like Chernarus minus. Yeah, theres more buildings/towns but the map just feels like its a lot smaller. Running from one end of the map to the other takes a lot less time. Theres really no point in vehicles at this point. Do you think they've just made a smaller version of Chernarus+ during the absence of vehicles?
  23. I blame the KoS crowd out there. To date I have yet to die by zombies, falling, starvation, dehydration or for a fight I started. Ignoring glitch-outs I'd consider myself a successful survivalist. I tend to hang to the North, but I know a lot of folks who want the excitement of the cities. So long as they can't enjoy the city and the survival aspect without being killed by mindless dickholes bent on ruining other people's experience, the victims will hop to rearm themselves to the degree which they can resume their path. As I've said before, wanton murderous violence among survivors would not be the norm IRL. The best part of the Alpha release is that by the time this game is in full release the bunghole-jockey-KoSers will be bored and a new Battlefield or Call of Duty that will draw them away. Having gear tents and vehicles will greatly reduce the perceived "need" to hop.
  24. Hi guys. I'm looking for good and stable Epoch server. There is many many servers. Checking each of them is not feasible so Im writing here. Requirements: Active Admins No Bots - No missions No epic military vehicles like tanks etc. No fast refueling Safe Zones in Trading Centers. No day only. Anyone will recommend something?
