Actually, I do have a story to keep you guys entertained for now! In a previous story, I mentioned that I had been shot by a group known as HAAB. I failed to mention that the friend they then took captive was in a skype call with me. They continued feeding me information about their whereabouts, in case I had the ability to come back and try to ambush the guys that took them - sadly, I was having a lot of trouble gearing up that time around. Luckily enough, another friend of mine logged on soon after - who was then able to chase them down and start ambushing them as they tried to fix up an SUV. Now, this would have been an awesome event full of treachery, deceit and much death but... My friend completely failed. It was actually quite entertaining. He ambushed them a total of twice, damaging one of their vehicles a little in one and only managing to kill a single person the second time. That would have been fine, save for the fact that the single person he'd killed was our informant. So all-in-all, he successfully did nothing, only to bleed out later from a lack of water. Suffice it to say, I laughed really, really hard at him. The informant later went on their TS channel, to prepare us for another ambush on them at a later date (getting their trust first was crucial supposedly). They made it so that their TS was being broadcast through our skype call, meaning that my friend and I could listen to their chatter - the most prevalent topic being about Sugar Jakobs, the hacker. The player who managed to get shot in the back, then come back 15 minutes later to fail to ambush them twice with full gear. The thought that these guys had absolutely no idea that there was a second player was actually hilarious. Anyway, I'll keep adding more stories for your entertainment!

DURRRRRRRRR... Not part of EPOCH! DURRRRRRRR! I don't know how many times I'll have to say it. Self Blood bags have nothing to do with Epoch and are not part of the mod. Extra Vehicles are not part of Epoch. Saying Self Blood bags are the problem with Epoch compared to vanilla is like saying Vanilla also sucks because it has self blood bags. Yes, some of the server hosts have added the same crap some of the server hosts have added to Vanilla DayZ but EPOCH DOESN'T INCLUDE ANY OF THAT! So stop bringing it up as a reason.

EPOCH is a ton of fun, you always have things to do. Vehicles are excellent, having to load your ammo is a big thing, while ammo for vehicles is rare to find, it makes you think about what you are about to use that ammo on. Bases are the best, they take a lot of time to build as well. We had so much fun playing EPOCH, but couldn't find a good server, we started our own. Low end starting gear. No protection at traders, its a DayZ eat DayZ world afterall! Tons of buildings, towns, roads added in, yeah you can add roads in that you travel normal road speed on!!! Vehicles usually have a thing or two wrong with them, usually a tire needs fixed. Full moon nights make it so bright i haven';t used NVGs that I have in my inventory in over a week. Weapon options were always limited greatly in vanilla EPOCH so we edited the loot table to add 40+ new weapons, no TWS or 50 Cal either. Join us: Glory of War Epoch, check my sig for IP!

(google translation from spanish) No problems for a while. I have no problems on the servers except one. Epoch Dayz Takistan 1.0.2.5 103718 After 15 min approx. or if I change objects in a vehicle or on a "campingtent" ... immediately freeze "sight and sound icons". If I eat or drink, it takes more than 1min to execute. (although I keep doing things, run, ride, shoot ...) Zombies ignore me, run to my position approx 30sec. after I have made noise. And others 30sec approx. to attack me if I continue in the same position. I can not unlock my vehicles ... It is as if the information I send to the server ... arrives very late. I had no problems on this server until the "admin" did a restart to change things.

Looking forward to 8.1 very much razor can't wait to not have my fps crippled by air vehicles :beans: Keep up all the good work

I wouldn't want to get in a discussion over this when you don't even know how it's going to be like in Standalone - as there's already a few points coming to my mind instantly. The serverpopulation will be much bigger than it currently is.At the moment it's fairly easy to find a server to play on that's almost empty the entire time. That's why it is easy to repair and keep a helicopter for a while and wait for the server to restart and then fly around looting everything. There won't even be vehiclesI mean - in the initial release of the standalone there won't be vehicles thus making this whole discussion pointless, as noone will be flying around looting all the crashes I'm pretty sure I can think of more while the discussion itself hardly makes sense, as we don't even know, whether we're going to have crashsites or not.

Added. * [FIXED] - Zeds will no longer target vehicles. If the player is targeted before entering a vehicle Zeds will continue to engage the player

1: Epoch like crafting System; 'Nuff Said./ Also import zombie infection ability from epoch 2: Against pretty much all odds, I would still like to see a SP mode. It would make filming easier, on us youtubers 3:If SP is added, i would love to see a SP development kit. Just for some of us that aren't coding prodigies, it would be something to see. Maybe an entire forum, just dedicated to these mods. And if some of 'em get lots of support, then maybe mulitplayer could factor into the community mods some how 4: New vehicles 5:Bolt action rifles; maybe more powerful than semi, but louder and heavier? 6: After death, zombie with your skin spawns, but w/o ur loot. Despawns after 10 mins 7: More animals 8: better grass around chopper crashes 9: ban combat loggers for 1 hr 10: 30s abort wait time 11: more backpacks 12: remove global side VOICE chat, AND text chat 13: lootable car crashes. 13: more weapons, less ammo, spawning in fire stations 14:Revert to old bandit skin: new one gives advantages in urban environment 15: spawn farther north 16: spawn not only on coast, but maybe in city? 17: Fishing 18: gun cabinents in homes 19: better map borders; not just flat endless planes 20: improved zombie paths Please don't flame me if i have said something already confirmed. CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM

I agree, vehicles are way too easy, no strategy with them really, just get in a repaired vehicle, and off you go.. Maybe it would be possible to find automatic cars, though? :P
-
Modern vehicles should be all automatic. As it gets older the automatic ness should faze out. Keep it real to the model of vehicle though.
-
Remove 3rd person in vehicles.Let us "crouch" or lower ourselfs in the seats to avoid being an easy shot for an enemy. The driver should be able to do that but ofcourse he'd have no vision. You should get good protection from the front with the engine block in the way of the bullets, from the side most bullets would penetrate the doors.

See, that doesn't help the issue of players reaching endgame too fast though. All you've done is just cut out the first (and arguably most important and enjoyable) stage of the game - surviving. Those first few hours where you're scrambling from house to house frantically trying to find a tin of beans because you're starving, where your only option when spotted is to turn and run because you don't even have anything to use as a weapon, and where the running from town to town is worth the wait because you know that whatever you find will be useful. If I can find a car inside an hour, none of that really matters. I've not got to worry too much about finding food, because I'll be able to travel from town to town in a minute or so - my hunger will have barely dropped, and I'll be able to loot three to five times as many locations as I would on foot, because I can get between distant points so much quicker. Zombies won't be too much of a problem as I can just hop in my vehicle and run them down/drive off. Personally, I hate the idea of bases, but I accept that it's simply my own preference, and that I'm just going to have to accept them as an inevitability - hopefully they're a long way down the line though. Either way, I wouldn't be using Epoch as a model for the future of DayZ just yet - the only thing it's shown for me is that if you make it too easy for players to gear up quickly (and it's pretty easy to do that in Epoch!), then they'll run out of things to do, and when they run out of things to do they'll either stop playing or start hunting other players to amuse themselves. There's a fairly large KoS problem in DayZ at the moment, and there's a particular school of thought that believe that it's simply because so many players enjoy the game but have done everything there is to do, so they do the only thing that's always going to be changing and fresh - hunting players. I do agree that for most players though, base building is the 'current' endgame, but that doesn't mean that you should therefore shuffle vehicles to early game. Leave vehicles as they are now - rare, hard to find and even harder to keep, because it adds more playtime to the game - more things for players to achieve, and more to keep them occupied. For me, DayZ should be a kind of pyramid. You start at the bottom with your can of beans and your winchester, and you learn those basic survival skills that you'll use in everything else you'll do in DayZ. That's what you'll spend the most time doing, even in endgame, you'll still have to stay alive. Once you've done that and geared up enough that you can start raiding industrial spawns for vehicle parts, you can move up to the next tier and start hunting for and repairing a vehicle, because even when you're building/built your base, you'll be needing that vehicle to move the heavy parts and get you to and from distant locations to search for stuff. Then, once that's done you can finally move into endgame with the basebuilding and whatnot. If you take away that first tier, not only do you drastically reduce the amount of time before players reach endgame and run out of things to do, you also rather drastically skew the development of new players. What good is having a car if you don't know how to survive when you have to get out of it? Heh, we've deviated a little bit from the original topic here, but I'm enjoying the discussion. :p

Yeah, I see what you're saying, but it's one of those things where you have to be willing to suspend disbelief for the sake of gameplay - sure, it's pretty unlikely any of us would be wanting to run 10km over uneven terrain on a diet of nothing but baked beans and mountain dew, but when the 'realistic' alternative would leave players potentially having up to 30 minutes of doing nothing but holding the 'W' key, you have to decide whether that's going to be the sort of thing people are going to want to spend their free time doing on a regular basis. As for cars/bikes, Chernarus doesn't strike me as the kind of place where cars are everywhere. For me, finding and repairing a car should be a mid to end game kind of thing - if I can find a car within ten minutes of spawning, where's the challenge and the enjoyment of spending all that time scavenging for parts, finding the car in the first place, and then trying to find a place to hide it? There's already a pretty major issue with players not really having enough to do in DayZ after a certain point, and I can only think that making vehicles almost immediately accessible would exacerbate the issue. It's the same with bikes, if not worse - a bike can achieve a good 30-40 km/h on most terrains, which is better than a good proportion of vehicles. It's silent, and it's damn hard to find if it's hidden well. Once players become too mobile, they'll gear up even quicker than they do already and once again run out of things to do. It's a very tricky balance to get right, which is why I feel that the status quo of mild disbelief is a better option than the potentially game-breaking changes suggested. I'm not deliberately trying to be an ass, and I can see that your suggestion's been given a bit more thought than some of the dross this particular section gets posted, but I do enjoy playing devil's advocate and I can definitely see some potential side effects from the changes.

An older co-worker was driving a support truck off road during his days trying to stay close to the tanks he had to follow, if he hadn't fastened his seatbelt the roof would have had a lot of dents. He said one of his comrades crashed into the ceiling one time. That should show the ruggedness of those vehicles. Even though they were much weaker engine wise and lighter than the US trucks they were much lighter and could climb places the US trucks couldn't. Afaik it was something like this, of course it's old and has a manual transmission but that wasn't a problem back then because 99.9% were used to driving stick.

I would recommend the following changes to zombie speed, but I wouldn't put any of this in the game till vehicles are in the SA alpha. 1. Make Zombie speed 75% of player movement speed. 2. Institute an endurance when players are running. 3. Make Zombies chase and track of over loooong distance. (Already in SA) 4. Make vehicles far more common, but gas rare (Already intended to be in SA) As a player runs endurance decreases. When it reaches zero the player moves at 70% speed. This allows people like me who want the walking dead feel of zombies get what we want and at the same time makes zombies much more of a threat. Thanks.

I'm sure newer vehicles are automatic, it has multiple advantages like Weparo said. Having an auto driver learn stick can be difficult and you won't want a driver stalling an engine in a critical situation, think of it as eliminating the weakest link in a chain. Afaik the HMMWV has is automatic like every APC and as a famous example the M1 Abrams. And if you are wounded you only need at least one working arm and foot to keep the vehicle moving. Here's some info http://www.army-technology.com/contractors/propulsion/allisontransmission/
-
That doesn't make sense. The idea is to make it more difficult to drive military vehicles, and furthermore, it's factually incorrect. Most large trucks have a manual transmission.
-
I'd propose the opposite. millitary vehicles would be automatics, so that the soldiers can focus and are not distracted by clutching. whereas civies drive manual. I still want all vehicles manual though ;)
-
Hey that's a really good idea. Maybe most cars and civilian SUV's could be automatics, whereas trucks, Urals, Humvee's, ect. could be manual, making a sort of skill curve with the vehicles.
-
There should be no third person in vehicles I mean it is just ridicilous. You can dodge things you wouldn't even see in real life. You can look behind you and see everything. But that is another topic...
